Square-Enix’s new reveal is Catacombs

Unfortunately, the reveal is not The World That Ends With You 2 but it is a game called Catacombs. Created by the makers of Nier, Cavia, is a game which places four characters called Matt, Carlos, Gina and Nguyen being trapped inside the Museum of Natural History in New York. They are survivors of a monstrous attack from a mysterious object within the museum which is seeming to call terrible beasts. The characters are diverse including a funny middle aged technician, who is flirtatious and a high school teenager trying to fit in within his Vietnamese roots and living in America.

Catacombs

Catacombs, according to Siliconera, will have levels based in a labyrinth underground where players can level up a variety of weapons. At first, you start off with a pistol but after a while, you can pick up special weapons. One is a mantis shotgun with bullets shooting out underneath its head, which is a barrel. When leveling it up to 8, the mantis shotgun grows arms. Another is a dragon inspired magnum with explosive rounds and wings to grow as it levels up. Magic rings can also be picked up to restore HP or cast devastating spells.

The coolest part of Catacombs is that the maps are randomly generated and there are no fixed maps. There is a huge amount of replay-ability but there is a story element even though the levels are randomly generated; the goal is to reach the next elevator to get to the next level.

Catacombs is a game based on co-op and is predicted to completely change the formula for horde based games. It is thought to be out on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 but sadly it has been cancelled until more interest arises from fans.
