    I say the only worthwhile animes are the short seasoned ones. Ones with about 13 episodes per season with a max of 2-3 seasons like...
    Elfen Lied, Death Note, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Golden Boy, Vampire Night/Vampire Knight Guilty, Gun Slinger Girls, Tenjou Tenge, Black Lagoon/Second Barrage, Neon Genesis Evangelion etc etc...

    Long running animes are okay but it's terrible if they just stretch the seasons all the time resulting in new characters, plots and twists which allow the characters to grow up 10 years while also following those 10 years within the story. Also they need three episodes to finish one task. Example...
    "SPIRIT BOMB! Hmm, I think I need like 3 hours to build up this baby while my enemy laughs at me for three hours thinking of its futility where it actually puts a big hole in the planet..." etc etc... "Go Spirit Bomb!" another full episode watching it slowly hit the antagonist plus another for the result plus another to find the antagonist is dying but not beaten and another etc etc...

    That one is definitely in my top list but the pilot episode almost made me put it down...
    I managed to sit through it and finally enjoyed the remaining 12 episodes.
