Can't believe I didn't notice this thread. So glad they're finally making a game going back to Johto. It's the best region. Although I'm wondering if they should've instead made the games more off of Crystal than Gold or Silver.

    Still gotta get Platinum.

Just out of curiosity, anybody got any of the unattainable legendaries? I have Mew, Deoxys, Darkrai, and I think Jirachi all on my Diamond version.

Incase anybody is wondering, the unattainable legendaries are: Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus.

That's not completely true. Kanto had 151. Mewtwo was 150, and Mew was 151. And in Red and Blue, it was impossible to get Mew without a Gameshark.

Johto added 100 pokemon to the list, with Celebi being Johto's Mew.

    Hoenn added 135.

    Sinnoh has added 107.

I'm guessing you're talking about Yellow? In Red and Blue, there wasn't a character name change. And when looking for Missingno, there is also a chance a regular pokemon with a level above 100 will appear.

I agree. EV points are a long and complicated way to make an invincible team. Basically, whenever your pokemon defeats another pokemon, it will gain EV points in a certain stat. Gain enough EV points, and when your pokemon levels up, it is guarenteed to increase the stat that the EV points went towards. And of course, since Ruby and Sapphire there have been different natures the pokemon have, also altering their stat gains.

    GrandShadow I accept your challange.

nature began affecting stats in G/S/C. but you're right, EVs were introduced in R/S/E(which was Hoenn btw. Sinnoh is D/P/P)
its 4 EVs in one stat=+1 stat in that catagory upon leveling. foe example defeating Magikarp gives +1 SPD EV. so beat 4 Magikarp and when you level up you're guaranteed to get +1 speed that you normally wouldn't have gotten. max of 255 EVs in a single stat with a max on 520 EVs grand total meaning you'd have to plan out what you want stronger beforehand, which is annoying but necessary in the competitive circuit.

and HG/SS are being based mostly on Crystals story(-Suicune being main focus) but having the wild poke seperations like the old G/S did. just like in Platinum, rival trainers, elite 4, and the new Frontier Brains(to go with the new HG/SS Battle Frontier) will move. there is a new rival like the unchosen gender rival in R/S/E. you can have any of the 493 pokes follow you around like Pikachu did in Yellow. a few areas also get something new like the Ruins of Alph gain a secret area. go there after trading a special event Arceus from Platinum and Cynthia(D/P/P Champion) will be there waiting. she'll tell you Arceus has the power to create life and you can make ONE level 1 Dialga, Palkia, or Giratina(sadly you can't get all 3). a few more appearance and gameplay changes round out the new games.

what i want to know(can't find any info on it) is if Red is still at Mt. Silver. i owe that guy an a$$ whoopin'.

and DS, i have a Darkrai and Arceus both legitimate, not hacked at all. Shaymin is actually the only 'unattainable' now

lmfao, because I just made it, or perhaps your never online that long :p
But yes, I'm glad it went back to johto as well. The sprites in this game looks fuckin amazing.
I was thinking about making a team for SOULSILVER

    Feriligator (water)
    Crobat (poision/fly)
    Amparhos (Electric)
    Arcanine (Fire)
Lugia (maybe swap with Gengar) (Ghost/Poision)
    Honchcrow (Dark/Fly)

    Any suggestions?

    Ho-oh!!! and Typhlosion!!

  6. GrandShadow

    GrandShadow I accept your challange.

thats actually a pretty good set-up except for 2.

Ampharos is far to weak. take Electivire. it can do the same stuff better and its good for other strategies as well.

and Honchkrow is on the weak side as well. if you want a Dark type then go for a Spiritomb. a very powerful and fast attacker. if you want a Flying then take Skamory. very defensive and it'll dish out some pretty mean hits to.

Abyssal Knight I step back into the light of...

Sounds like a Cool Team Reisen

I noticed I put that I had Platinum in my previous post. I should fix that.

And then there's that wierd Pokerus disease the pokemon can get, but it's too much hassle to bother with.

I thought they'd be going back to Gold and Silver, with Lugia and Ho-oh being either level 40 or 70, depending on the game.

I don't remember getting Lugia in Crystal (Don't bother asking about Ho-oh for Crystal, too damn complicated), but was Lugia level 45 or 60? I remember reading that Ho-oh is Crystal was level 60.

What is this special event Arceus? Never heard of them doing a special event to get him. Just heard of the special event to get Darkrai (Which is how I got mine). And I do like the whole idea of getting a level 1 D,P, or G. Sounds almost worthwhile to play the game three times to get each of them.

I'm sure he'll be there. Although since Red is supposed to be Ash, the Pickachu he has is a little dissapointing. It should be at level 100.

I just call them unattainable because you need either an event, or a cheating device to get them. The only real exceptions to those would be Jirachi and Manaphy.

Jirachi: Have a Pokemon Colleseum pre-order disc and hook up your Ruby or Sapphire to it. You'll get a level 5 Jirachi that holds a rare berry.

Manapy: Something to do with Pokemon Ranger.

Let's see... I got my Mew and Deoxys from a friend who used a Gameshark to get them. I got my Jirachi from the method listed above. And I got Darkrai from that one event they did to celebrate the American release of the Rise of Darkrai movie.

Hmm.... For me, I'd have Typhlosion for my fire type (I always pick Cyndaquil for the Johto region). I would take out a flyer (Probably Honchcrow) for Lucario, unless you can't get one. If that's the case, then probably get a Dragonite or the shiny Garados. Ampharos.... Electrivire if you're able to, if not.... Maybe Raichu. I'm not too sure on that. And to replace Feralligator I'd either have Lapras or Quagsire. Gengar's a good choice, but only replacing Lugia depending on the situation.

Question about Sapphire: Where have you all found Latias? I know he's suppose to be like the legendary cats but I still can't find it!

  10. GrandShadow

    GrandShadow I accept your challange.

a hassle to get but its a very good thing. when a poke has it thier exp. gain is doubled.
well yeah but Crystal had a couple small story differences(besides the Suicune stuff) that will become part of the main story in HG/SS. and yeah in HG Ho-oh will be 45 and Lugia will be 70 and vice versa for SS
currently the event is Japan only. it was a promotion for the 12th movie which Arceus debuted in. it comes with Judgement(its signature move)/Roar of Time(Dialga's)/Spacial Rend(Palkia's)/Shadow Force(Giratina's)

Darkrai had a recent Toys R Us event. Arceus will be having one soon but it will just be a regular Arceus. Deoxsys had 2 events for Emerald. so did Mew and Celebi. Shaymin has had one Japan event(for movie 11) but no current American one. so technically by American srandards Shaymin is the only 'unattainable' left.
actually he wasn't. Pokemon started from a manga where the main character was Red. the anime based Ash of Red, even giving him the same pokes until they split into different storylines.
    already explained above
@bold: you to? i'm the same way.

and Raichu would be a decent replacement for Electivire. not as powerful but faster.
Quagsire is a horrible choice as Feraligater is better in just about everything. though Lapras would work just as well so thats a personal choice.
Lugia should only be replaced if you want to play without legends otherwise its far superier to Gengar.

and you know there's no difference between a shiny and non-shiny except color right? stats remain the same, no boost from being a shiny at all.

Just curious, but does anyone here have any extra Ice Beam, Flamethrower, ThunderBolt, or Shadow Ball TMs? I can trade some solid eggs for them.

I know. But you're almost guarenteed a shiny Garados (Unless you kill him of course). I just think the shiny one looks better than the regular one.

I might. I'd have to look at my Diamond again. Damn... Haven't played it in months. For some strange reason, if I'm in a car or sitting down all alone when I play it, I get extremely sleepy. Do you know which pokemon would hatch from the eggs?

  13. GrandShadow

    GrandShadow I accept your challange.

can't you just buy those in the Battle Frontier for like 48 BP or something? a few runs through the Battle Tower or Arcade wouldn't be to hard right?

then again thats Platinum so first i've gotta ask which game do you have? Diamond/Pearl or Platinum?

For those of you who don't know, YouTube has some videos showing aspects of Heart Gold and Soul Silver. I just watched one that talked about the special pokemon you can get.

Ho-oh: Level 45 in Heart Gold, level 70 in Soul Silver
Lugia: Level 45 in Soul Silver, level 70 in Heart Gold
Kyogre: Level 50 in Heart Gold
Groudon: Level 50 in Soul Silver
Rayquaza: Level 50 in both games
Suicine: Level 40 (I think). Must be encountered several times before being able to catch
    Raikou: Level 40
    Entei: Level 40
    Articuno: Level 60
    Zapdos: Level 60
    Moltres: Level 60
    Mewtwo: Level 70
Giratina: Level 1. Need Arceus. Need to choose between Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina.
Dialga: Level 1. Need Arceus. Need to choose between Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina.
Palkia: Level 1. Need Arceus. Need to choose between Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina.
    Latios: Level 50
    Latias: Level 50
Johto starters: Get one at beginning of game
Kanto starters: Get 16 badges and talk to Oak
Hoenn starters: Defeat Red and then talk to somebody in Silph Co. in Saffron City

Red is at Mt. Silver still, but their is a change in his team.......

I do not take credit for this information. I recieved this info from this YouTube vid: Heart Gold and Soul Silver Updates

I must have this game!!! lol..I still need to play Platinum first though =l I tried donloading it on my DS, but it wasn't working at all.

  16. Plasmos

    Plasmos Plasmos

Remember, spiritomb isn't in the Johto dex, it's in the sinnoh and i would have to trade it after i beat the game, which is what I don't want to do, that's why Honchkrow would be simpler. As for Ampharos, i was going to stick with that because it's sp.attck base is pretty high. But i may just have swap Ampharos with sneasel.

    I know right.
Remember Lucario isn't in the Johto pokedex, Feralligator is staying mainly because it's my starter pokemon.
Latias is a roaming pokemon, you have to go in the Hoen grass to search for it. It'll appear randomly so be prepared to use your master ball if you haven't discard it already. Because as soon as you try to hit it, it'll run away unless you have a Crobat or another fast pokemon to top it's speed. Or better yet, put it to sleep.

  17. Master Sora

    Master Sora Kingdom Key

I think you can also paralyze it and use a quick ball...or freeze it if lucky lol

  18. GrandShadow

    GrandShadow I accept your challange.

Hoenn didn't have Quick Balls. to get Latios/Latias. you have to do like Reisen said, top its speed. if you're faster then you can get off an attack before it runs so you should quickly do one of to things:
A: put it to sleep(Hypnosis, Sleep Powder, stuff like that)
B: block its escape(Mean Look, Spider Web, Block, those kind of moves)

that'll let you attack and weaken it so you don't have to waste a Master Ball on something that can be caught with a Poke Ball

I was going to use Wobbuffet and keep using counter. Would that help?

  20. Master Sora

    Master Sora Kingdom Key

Well yeah, I already know that, but I forgot they didn't have quick balls..I'm too caught up in the new pokemon games lol
