If there's a thread like this, I didn't notice it.

This is for general discussion of the endings of the various FF games. Which games had the best endings? Which ones sucked? What would you change? And so on. Obviously, there are spoilers here.

    ---

I think X had the best ending. I love endings that make me cry. And it had enough closure that, had I played this game before X-2 was released, I wouldn't have wanted a sequel. I also liked IX's bittersweet ending. And the video camera sequence at the end of VIII was really cool.

The worst ending, in my opinion, would have to be XII's. It was very anti-climactic, and I didn't like how none of the characters seemed to grow from their experiences in the game. Everyone just seemed like they were back where they were at the start, with the exception of Basch (serving the wrong person ) and Ashe as queen rather than exiled princess. I also find VII's ending a little lacking (in that you don't find out anything about the characters' fates besides RedXIII), but I suppose that's why they made Advent Children.

X's ending is pretty good. I liked VIII's ending, but it had drawn up some confusion between me and my brother about Squall's fate. He thought that Squall actually died when he was stuck in the time compression. And that the ending celebration in Balamb Garden, Rinoa is the only one who sees Squall at the end, since they never show Squall in the camera recording.

VII's ending, I never really cared too much about. But I don't care too much for VII in general. Vincent and Yuffie don't fight Sephiroth. Instead they help citizens evacuate. And that cheesy final match in Cloud's head between him and Sephiroth.

Crisis Core's ending is sad. Zack is so close, and then he dies. And then Cloud snaps and believes he's Zack.

For the absolute strangest ending, FFI takes the cake. Everything revealed to be a time paradox where everybody, including the 4 heroes, forgets what happened

Dissidia's ending is alright. Nothing special about it.

He'd probably be better serving Ashe, but Larsa isn't the wrong person. And because Gabranth is supposed to be the top judge and the one by Larsa's side, Basch basically becoming Gabranth (So Gabranth basically never died) is a smart political move.

I never would have thought of that, but the idea of Squall dying is pretty interesting. It's kind of strange that Rinoa would be smiling like she was if she were talking to Ghost!Squall, though. Unless his death unhinged her or something.

Eh, I agree, but I don't like it. It doesn't really seem fair to Basch. v_v

Easily FFXI, the hero returns to save the villian.
The hero and Villian have a heart to heart.
The hero returns some time later.

Cant remember how it all went but the ending had a huge impact on me which no other FF i have completed has lived up to.

I really like the ending of FF Crisis Core.
I like the sad, and dramatic ending.
    It makes the ending interesting.

^Don't you already know the ending from playing VII, though? That'd ruin it for me.

I say FFX. So sad. After Yuna loses Tidus, she starts to have a new light in her that shows that she has hope. FFX-2 ending has a good ending & the international version was great! Really marks Yuna's & Tidus' life together. FFVIII's ending is good but I hate it when they started to play that ballroom music with Squall trying to remember that girl who kept on walking towards him that is Rinoa. Still hear that heel clicking in my head. I wish I knew who are Squall's parents though.

CC FF7 has the best ending. The dream to became a hero, that's so sick stuff.
The ending is sad but happy in the same time. Really epic ending

Seriously? It is so obvious that Laguna and Raine (Ellone's adoptive mother in Windhill, if you don't know who she is) are his parents. She died giving birth to a child, Ellone tells us. If you talk to Kiros on the Ragnarok at the end of the game, he tells Squall that he looks like his mother. He also translates for Ward, "Good thing you don't look like your father" and Laguna gets offended. Laguna also flat out tells Squall that they have things to talk about, if Squall is willing to listen. What else could he want to discuss, except the fact that he totally abandoned Squall as a newborn?

    ^That about sums it up.

Even through playing VII, they managed to make the ending of Crisis Core much more than you'd think.

Everybody knows that Zack dies. But they put so much more into it. Like how he specifically died (But I think they kinda showed that in Advent Children), more stuff between him and Aerith, that annoying Genesis, the Turks being good guys, etc.

Yep. I'm always irritated when people don't get that. If you pay attention to the game, it's obvious. <_<

I never had much interest in the FFVII spin-offs, mostly because I think it's stupid for S-E to beat VII to death rather than release new numbered games. And VII has always seemed overrated to me. But it sounds like this game might be worthwhile to play. Or, more likely, I'll just youtube the ending. XD

FFX has a good ending... kinda sad and moving. Dissidias ending is nothing special as desert pointed out. FFCC also has a moving ending, but that was obvious due to FFVII. I never played past FFXII beginning cause i felt it was that bad, no one has mentioned the ending to FFXII on this so i still dont know if it is worth playing. Is it?

I said this about XII- "The worst ending, in my opinion, would have to be XII's. It was very anti-climactic, and I didn't like how none of the characters seemed to grow from their experiences in the game."

If you felt that the beginning of XII was really that bad, I don't think the game would grow on you if you picked it up again. I liked it well enough while playing it, but it is definitely not the best of the series. The ending doesn't save it.
