Did anyone else feel that KHII ruined the image of the Heartless?

    In Kingdom Hearts 1 they were practically demons of death who relentlessly murdered people.

    In KHII, their color scheme, design, actions and even cutscenes ruined that image and made them almost comedic.

    Maybe a cloud of darkness stumbled upon a group of nomadic circus clowns and possessed their hearts? That would explain a lot of things.

    ...a lot of things.

    Also new enemies may have contributed.
    Nobodies>Heartless was the message (kind of)
    If they made the Nobodies meaner/scarier/bad-er than the KH1 Heartless, the designs may have been too scary for younger players?

    I can't say that I really noticed this (next time I play KH II I'll pay attention), but I think Libertine probably has a point. KH II was really focused on the Nobodies. In order to make them seem more threatening, there wasn't much of a choice but to downplay the heartless, especially if S-E is keeping younger gamers in mind.

    Then came the Unverse and they look real scarier than the heartless and the nobodies. The NeoShadows are scary looking enough in KH2.

    Mhmm, especially in the KH 1 secret ending.
    My lord, the Neoshadows made that video.

    I agree. They had this creepy way of moving, and there was just a different look to them (can't explain it any better).

    I really don't think taht KH2 messed up the horror of the heartless. Look at the rabid dogs in the Underworld! they was attacking Meg at the beginning and I'm like "WHAT IN THE WORLD?!" The Neoshadows are just plain scary. They move so fast under the ground and pops up so fast. The heartless in Tron's world just blows my mind. Who knows that they can exist virtually?

    Oh, I didn't even pay attention to it. They did act kinda comically in KH2... But when you think about the color, they are not that much more colorful than in KH1. And I believe that the color schemes were because the Heartless tried to camouflage themselves to fit the world they were roaming in.
    The Heartless at the End Of The World were truly frightening. I mean, just look at Invisible;

    o_o;;

    Neoshadows are my all-time favorite Heartless, though. They are somehow so graceful, and deadly at the same time. <3

    I haven`t thought of it, but now... I think it`s true. I mean, Maleficent actually helped Sora and co. few times, which really made heartless seem less scary. I think it`s okay, but it does seem a little weird, when you think about all the epic fights in KH.. ^^' I think the mood was somewhat lighter in KH II than in KH. I don`t know, but heartless, and darkness overall seemed scarier in KH, than humanlike org. members and kinda plain looking nobodies in KH II. In the first game everything was new, Sora was just tossed in the middle of a chaos, and yes, I was a lot younger when I played it the first time so maybe it`s that. Never found it actually scary though.

    I've been playing some KH 2 recently, and so far (I'm about to go to Port Royal for the first time), I haven't noticed the heartless acting any goofier or less scary than they did in KH 1. Like Camdy said, I think it is just that the overall mood of KH 2 is lighter than it was in KH 1, so all of the enemies feel less threatening.

    x3pic where are you? Oh I'm here. :) Sorry, I've been sorta M.I.A because of class work, but im finally caught up.
    I didn't really read anyones posts beside Libertine and Toph's, because they seem to know what they're talking about. So if you said anything im about to say, then good job.
    Anywhom:
    To answer your color scheme question: Those aren't pure blood Heartless, they are artificial. Actually, there were very rarely seen in KH2, though there were a few like the Neo Shadow for example. Pure blood heartless are the Demons you speak of, BUT Artificial heartless aren't goofy in anyway. Artificial Heartless are the colorful "goofy" ones you speak of. I use the term goofy very loosely, because they to can be demons, they are just not as strong.

    Another thing as Libertine, pointed out. This game really revolved around Nobodies, not heartless. We already knew about the heartless, so why repeat? KH2 focused on the Nobodies, and the nobodies were actually as ruthless as the heartless were.

    -_____- I also backed up the heartless reason as to why they most likely didn't lose their touch too x3pic with the rabid dogs and the Neoshadows. Anyways, that little candy-machine gumball heartless looks freaky though. replacing the mushrooms with them just adds in a little bit more horror with their large, sharp teeths. I also think that they did a good job with making armies of heartless at Radiant Garden and how the heartless can be in Tron's world.

    Well, good job, but reading your posts is like running through a garden of throned roses, and trying not to get poked O.O.

    Anyway, your post made no sense, but heartless really don't loose their touches? Either your artifical or your pure blood

    <.> I can't believe that you said that with the garden part. I don't give a care if the heartless is artificial or pure, to me, they're are the same race. There are times when artificial heartless are scarier than the pure.

    x3pic I'll Kill You.

    Yea, i did because your grammar is horrible, no offense. Just being completely honest.

    This is what separates my knowledge for yours. The pure blood/articial heartless are important to the story. And to top it off, Pure blooded heartless are scarier. You should start caring if your going to understand the story. Because that group of 1000 heartless you were talking about, were all artifical, No pure bloods at all. How do I know? Because pureblood heartless don't release hearts when they are destroyed. If there was no such thing as Artificial Heartless. Xemnas would be screwed. We would have had NO Kingdom hearts 2.

    To answer all questions, The reason there were alot of Artifical Heartless in KH2, is because with out them, there would be no plot to KH2. And we wouldn't have had Days

    i dont care they were both cool to me, i loved nobodys better than heartless anyways, except for the boss heartless, they were always cool. But really if they didn't down play heartless and make them look weaker than the nobodys, than sora would have to of a easy job, he beat heartless up without breaking a sweat, with nobodys, he was nearly dead after every battle. (not really. just saying it like that so everybody could see the gap kinda.) And to what X3pic said, there aren't that many pure blood heartless around any more, there where more fake ones made than real ones. So really we cant have kh without them cuz then there wouldn't be much battles with low villans.

    Duh. All of what you said right there I had already know. I just really don't care if they are pure or artificial because to me, they all belongs to darkness. I really don't give a care because of Master Xehanort starting all of this, losing his memory, knowing a lot about the darkness, dabbling in the darkness with the other, making a machine that can make artificial heartless and lots more. Heartless, whether pure or artificial will just go after people's hearts just to get stronger, which will only end up making more nobodies and might end up being a eternal cycle unless you get rid of several factors. Pureblood are scary, that I accept and I also think that artificial are also scary to some extent.

    KHII is more like the center of everything to me, connecting KH, KH Days, BBS and Coded together.

    Edit: Actually, make BBS the center of everything above KHII.

    To be exact there was NO pure blood heartless in KH2, why because we never were clothes to the darkness. We were also close to nothingness or twilight in KH2. thats were Nobodies roam. Now if we TWTNW is the exact opposite of End of the World from KH1, if you didn't notice. Thats why we saw no invincibles or dark balls. Now if you go to the End of the World, pure blood heartless would be swarming all around. They aren't even close to being extinct

    Now now pic, let the children play.

    Just to point this out, if I remember right, Purebloods don't got the emblem on their chests like artifactials? Just thought to mention because you were talking about how the two could be seperated apart from the colors.
