As if the title wasn't warning enough, I'm going to be on the safe side and say it again. This topic will have MANY spoilers, if discussion goes on as I think it might. Read at your own risk. Now, getting back on topic.

At the end of Birth By Sleep, Master Xehanort's heart goes into Terra's body and becomes Xehanort. This is commonly known. Now, think about what a Nobody is. Just the body, with no heart, right? So, wouldn't Xemnas be Terra's Nobody and not Xehanort's? This would explain why Xemnas was referring to Aqua's armor as an "old friend" in KH2:FM+. However, it doesn't explain his actions. I came up with this theory in about five minutes, so there are probably holes. If you find any, by all means point them out.

  2. Keyblade Master Roxas

Keyblade Master Roxas Shake the Core.

This what I think you're not the first to come up with this theory (I don't mean that in a critical manner); I think I first saw it over a year ago. It included quite the diagram explaining the relationships between Master Xehanort, Terra, and Xehanort as we currently know him. It posited that the being known as Xehanort (which, as many have recognized, is an anagram of "no heart" with an x thrown in) has somehow inhabited Terra's body.

There are quite a few holes with this, of course. For example, Terra appears in Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix + as the optional Enigmatic Soldier boss. It would be odd for him to make such an appearance if the Xehanort who showed up in Radiant Gardens was just a possessed Terra.

The thing I found most interesting, was this was not actually directly related to the connections between Terra and Master Xehanort. It had more to do with Sora's relation to Ven, specifically in the manifestation of Roxas. It's already clear that the two are related by the keyblade. Although it is ultimately Riku who wields the Way to the Dawn (which Ven picks up in Sunset Horizons), it seems clear that it was originally intended for Sora (this is evidenced by the first game's emphasis that the Kingdom Key was intended originally for Riku and then the Enigmatic Soldier's comment that he did not intend for Sora to wield the Kingdom Key).

The Birth by Sleep trailers are already presenting Ven as something of an oddity. He even goes so far as asking Terra to "erase" him. The theory in question suggested that somehow Ven's heart ended up in Sora's body much in the same way that Kairi's did. This would explain why Roxas seems to resemble Ven more so than he does Sora. It also explains how Roxas, a being supposedly lacking a heart, can weild a keyblade, a weapon requiring a heart. Given what we currently know (or can at least assume), I don't think it's too much of a stretch to think that when Sora released his heart at the end of Kingdom Hearts to free Kairi that Ven's heart was also released and created a Nobody with a heart--i.e. Roxas. This seems more likely since a few of the extra scenes in KH:FM+ suggest that Roxas does, in fact, possess a heart.

I think that something like this may explain the connections between Terra and Xehanort. The one thing that Sora and Xehanort have in common is that they are the only two to produce heartless which retained their independent will. There is no known explanation for this, but it would make sense that this was the result of having multiple hearts within the same body. There are obvious holes in this theory, but it might explain the connection between Xehanort and Terra. Perhaps, somehow, at the end of Birth by Sleep, Master Xehanort's heart will somehow migrate to Terra's body to create the Xehanort which appears at Radiant Garden. Then when he begins experimenting and casts off his physical shell, you might somehow end up with Xemnas, Xehanort's Heartless, and the Enigmatic Soldier in the same way that when Sora released his heart we ended up with Roxas (a Nobody with a heart) and Sora.

More likely than not, the "Unbirths" will explain this better than any incomplete theories we can come up with given what we currently know. O_O

    I'll address each paragraph:

We know how it happened. MX unlocked his heart and forcibly pushed it into Terra's body. It's not news.

The Lingering Sentiment is a non-canon battle, hence it does not affect the story. Also, we konw what that is too. It's Terra's conciousness inside his armor. The armor is empty.

Ven's heart is inside Sora, we also know this. But I don't think the Way to the Dawn was originally intended for Sora, seeing as how it is stated to be an "evolution" of Riku's Soul Eater sword.

The connections between Terra and Xehanort are very apparent, they are very well known. No sense in speculating on theory at this point when the game is already out in Japan.

My theory isn't specifically Birth by Sleep, and it's not something that's addressed in-game. I've heard a lot of stuff from both of you, but I simply want to know one thing: does my theory have merit? Or is it complete crap? That's all I want to know, for now.

It certainly is possible. However, the "Xehanort" we know in KH 1 and 2 is supposed to be a seperate entity from either Terra OR Master Xehanort

From what I understand from both the KH Wiki and subtitled cutscenes on youtube, when Xehanort's heart went into Terra's body, he became Xehanort. Aqua found him and fought him, causing him to lose his memory. After that, Ansem the Wise found him and took him as an apprentice.

That is what happened. But the memory-less Xehanort then developed his own conciousness, as such he could no longer be called Terra or Master Xehanort.

Where did you get the part about him getting his own consciousness? I've been researching KH:BBS stuff for months and I haven't seen anything about that. I was under the impression that he regained his memories while experimenting with darkness along with the other apprentices. And even if he didn't, Braig (Xigbar) knew about his plan from the beginning, and was helping him along. Any change in his consciousness would have been noted and taken care of by Braig.

Braig did note it, as in the final video he garners no response when talking to the new "Terranort", and as such asks if he is Terra, again garnering no response. It also shows both Terra and Master Xehanort inside of Terranort, both laying dormant. If they are both dormant, they cannot be in control of the body.

Then who is? A new heart doesn't pop up out of nowhere, and as it was, Terra's body had two hearts in it. Judging by his actions as Ansem the Wise's apprentice, I would say that it is more likely that Xehanort was in control, memories intact or not. However, all of this has nothing to do with my original point. A nobody is a body without a heart, and since it was Terra's body, that would make Xemnas Terra's Nobody, since it was his body.

Technically, but that doesn't mean Terra's conciousness was in his nobody. Also, Terra's body had 3 hearts in it (Master Erauqas)

    Terra's body = Terra's heart and Eraqu's heart.
After battle, Terra's body absorbed MX's heart. One of the 2 hearts he once had went into the ENigmatic Soldier, his armor. Now I would like to say that due to the fact that we see TErra and MX speaking to eachother, I think that both of their hearts were in Terra's body after the battle. This leaves us to conlude that Eraqu's heart is in the armor. He probably saw Sora and thought of Vanitas and MX, and he cursed MX's name when Sora battles him in KH2FM+.

So, what happened to Terra's heart if MX is in control?
Well, one of two things happened. Either Terra was sent out of the body and he joined Ven in the room of Sleep, as we see at the end of BBS secret trailer when they all say "Sora". Or, like we see when "Xehanort" battles Aqua, both Terra and Xehanort are in constant battle for control over the body, the actions of the heartless and nobody lead us to presume that MX is "winning" the fight most of the time.

MX and Terra when they were speaking to each other in the body, they were talking about how Erauqs' heart is still in Terra. And we know Terra's Lingering Sentiment to be terra's final desires and concioussness in his armor, not a spare heart.

But doesn't taht kinda not make sense? The series has so much to do with hearts, why would a conscience seperate from a heart? I mean doesn't that open up a whole new can of worms? And if Terra's heart and MX's heart were in the same body, and Eraqs' was in Terra's body, wouldn't Eraqs be in that scene talking with them as well? Because he was already in the body? See, what your saying is that Eraqs heart is IN Terra's heart. That doesn't make a lot of sense.

I'm not stating a theory though, it's in the game

This is a quote from KH wiki, but I can find exact translations if you really want:

The Lingering Sentiment (留まりし思念 Todomarishi Shinen?) is an unlockable secret boss featured in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and a briefly playable character at the climax of Terra's story in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. It is merely the lost thoughts and feelings of Keyblade wielder Terra residing within the man's discarded armor, the emotions and armor lost to him during the final battle with Master Xehanort.
