^ I think those were done long before Legend of Korra was thought up- I noticed the thread I found them in was made in 2007. I think it was just to tease the fans a little with a glimpse of what Team Avatar might look like all grown up (probably done during that long hiatus between episodes?). Though I hope you are right and they show flashbacks of them all around that age, as well as younger and older- the more Team Avatar, the better. ^_^ There'd be opportunities while Old Man Spirit Version Aang gives advice to Korra in the spirit world (which I'm sure will happen at some point) for him to talk about his own past.

^ my feelings exactly! and while this may have nothing to do with the new series, I would like to finally get an answer as to what really happened to Zuko's mother

Bryan and Mike talk "The Legend of Korra", and pretty much avoid discussing Shyamalan's The Last Airbender.

And it confirms that Bankai was right on the last page- Korra has already learned water, earth, and fire.

Quoting sorabrawl from the other thread:
Didn't everyone already know Bryan and Mike didn't head up the live action film? That was Shyamalan's baby- Bryan and Mike had executive producer credits, but that was all. Dunno why that's news.

Also, though this is a little off topic, I don't think their comments on the movie mean much of anything. They're between a rock and a hard place, when you think about it- if they complain that the movie butchered their creation, they run the risk of pissing off Viacom, who will be funding "Korra"- they don't have the kind of clout to be able to stand up to studios, in my opinion. And if they had said that they enjoyed it, the Fan Dumb would have either immediately assumed they were just trying not to offend anyone, or would have gotten pissed that they sold out or some shit. So Bryan and Mike wisely chose to say nothing at all.

There's the idea that avatars are longer lived than other people (though it seems to me that even the regulars live longer than we generally do)- for instance, you have Kyoshi who lived to be 230. If Aang died at 54 years after Sozin's Comet- (70 years into the future minus Korra being at age 16 (which may not be her actual age, but close enough for my speculation)), he still was technically alive for 166 years- it's just that 100 of those years were spent in a block of ice.

Was anyone shocked by that? Besides the diehard Zutara shippers?

I'm glad to hear the show will be more mature, though it's also good to hear that it won't be completely humorless. Maybe that will help get rid of the misconception that Avatar is just a kid's show. (I hear this all the time from my moron sister, and it is SO annoying). A similar idea to KH is just for kids, because it has Disney characters in it.

EDIT: Edited the thread title. All Korra discussion should go here.

i saw something qoute"during that long hiatus between episodes" end quote. On youtube it looked just like the avater show but it was Team Avater all older doing some serious master bending, i forgot all about it but it was cool. If anybody knows about give me a link pls. Also im not that excited about a new branch of the series. I mean i really wanted to see the old team come back and do something like look for Zuko's mom or fighting some rebels to peace or something like that. (Mostly i wanted to see soka, hes too funny) But the only thing that got my attention was the anti benders. I like that. Hate that Toph might be dead.

I'm hopeful we will get enough of the old gaang through flashbacks or some other plot device. I agree with you to a point, but I think a good writer knows when their characters' stories are told, and knows when to quit and leave it on a high note. Not that there aren't still questions waiting to be answered- Zuko's mom being the most obvious, but I'm not sure just answering those would be worth a whole series or miniseries. With Aang as spiritual advisor to Korra, and the possibility that some of the other main characters of ATLA are still alive, we can have our questions answered without getting tired of the characters or having a story that feels contrived. >_<

And sorry, but I've never heard of the youtube video you asked about. Would be interested in seeing it, though, if you ever come across it again.

^ I am too, though I don't think there was ever any doubt about that. From the first few episodes, you could pretty much tell Aang and Katara would end up together. Wonder if they had any more kids? Should be interesting to find out.

EDIT: According to this source, Jeremy Zuckerman, composer for Avatar The Last Airbender, will be returning to do the score for Korra. Excellent news, in my opinion- the score for ATLA was fantastic.

A little bit of Korra news and speculation:

It seems that a character named Meelo will be in the show, and I've read speculation that he is the grandson of Sokka and Suki, but I can't find that last bit officially confirmed. >_< I found this pic on twitter, which shows a quick sketch of Korra and Meelo done at Comic Con: Click!

He does look kind of like Sokka to me, hasty sketch and all. But we'll see.

Someone also apparently twittered that they were auditioning for the role of a character named Wei Bei on the show, though I can't find an official source to confirm the existence of a character by that name. Twitter Source

If both these characters exist, perhaps they will be part of Team Avatar 2? I know it's ultimately pointless to guess, but it's fun, so meh.

awesome news, Toph once again. I'm guessing Meelo is going to be the comic relief of the story but I hope he isn't going to be like Sokka. It would be nice to see a different kind of comedy to the new series. I hope a grandson of Katara and Aang appears!

I've also heard that Korra is supposed to be a 12 episode miniseries, but I'm unsure if that's all, or if Viacom will have the option of picking up more episodes and making it a full season, if not longer.

I agree- in general, I don't want it to feel like it's just Aang's team, but with different faces. I'm especially hoping Korra is more of an "I'm not gonna take any of your shit" type of avatar, a la Kyoshi- I'd like her to be as different from Aang as possible.

I would think that would be likely, since unless Katara had Tenzin when she was ancient, he's probably middle-aged, and could have kids of his own.

Also, just a random comment, but I like how Aang was taught by a descendant of Roku, and now Korra will be taught by a descendant of Aang. ^_^

I'm certain that Avatars would develop their own form of Airbending without a teacher.

And that is some of my logic behind the idea that people should be able to bend all the elements, even though the creators said that there were some limiting factors as to why. I'll explain my theory if you want.

I remember hearing rumors about a possible season would be Zuko looking for his mother. And I thought 'that would be a crappy season'. Who cares if Zuko finds his mommie? The show is about the Avatar, not Zuko.

Shipping should die. After learning what I have about shipping wars, I see that shipping needs to dissapear. But that's a different subject for a different thread.

I hope it is a full season minimum.

If you'd like to, sure. The more Avatar talk, the better.

Well, I'd argue that the show is just as much about Zuko as it is about Aang. Their stories parallel in a lot of ways. But I agree that Zuko seeking Ursa is not much to base an entire season on. I'd like to see it resolved though, if only because it was lame the way the arc was left hanging. That last clip of Zuko confronting Ozai should have just been left out, in my opinion.

Ha ha, I have to disagree- I think the shipping wars are hilarious. But they sure don't bring out the best in people. Shipping in general will never go away- when people get attached to characters, they will take an interest in who those characters should be paired up with. Though many shippers don't need to be so hateful about it.

I doubt you'd be surprised to hear that Korra already has some shipping going on, despite the fact that we know nothing about any of the characters except some of their names.

Apparently, an admin at avatarspirit.net went to Comic Con and spoke to Bryan and Mike, and they were adamant that Korra would be a 12 episode miniseries. Have yet to see it in an official press release, or in a quote from their own mouths, though.

I was hoping for some more news about Korra from Comic Con, but so far I haven't found anything. Will keep looking, though.

    I'd be happy to :D

For it all to work, you would have to first ignore what the creators said that bending is partly based on genetics.

People originally didn't bend the elements. Firebenders learned from Dragons, Earthbenders learned from Badgermoles, Airbenders learned from Sky Bisons, and Waterbenders learned from... I'd guess the Ocean or Moon Spirit. And in the show, at least in the opening, they say that the Avatar is the only one who could master all the elements. Based on that logic, anybody should be able to learn how to bend each element, just not necessarily master each element.

Yue tells us that the first waterbenders learned by watching the Moon Spirit push and pull the tides.

I think the show sometimes uses "learn" and "master" interchangeably. I don't think you could use the fact that they say that only the avatar can master the elements to claim that just anyone can learn them.

If the original benders learned by watching a source and imitating it, logically, you'd think that with enough study and training, someone who already bends an element could learn another. But if that were the case, then I don't think there ever would have been a need for the avatar. The avatar is there to keep the four nations in balance- if everyone could learn all four elements themselves, there wouldn't have been a reason to divide into four nations. Though perhaps, this could be something the world is working towards? Republic City, by the name, sounds like a city filled with people from all four nations. And Guru Pathik told us that the separation of the elements is just an illusion (or something like that). Perhaps a time will come when people learn to bend more elements, or revert back to energybending, and then the avatar will no longer be necessary.

I don't think you can ignore that, though. If genetics weren't in play, you'd have airbenders popping up all over the place. There have to be plenty of people with the right spirit (Aang names that kid Teo from the Northern Air Temple as one) and the fact that these people don't bend air means that genetics is a bigger factor than I think the creators even led us to believe. If it were solely based on spirituality and personality, you'd have families made up of benders of all four elements. And there'd again be no need for four distinct nations based on bending, and no need for the avatar.

Veering away from this topic a little, I'm sort of irritated (though that's a strong word for it) that Korra, as a teen, already knows three of the four elements. Roku goes to the trouble of telling Aang that mastering the elements takes years of discipline, and we see that he was much older than a teen when he became a fully realized avatar (I'd guess in his 30s). It belittles Aang's achievement to have another avatar learn them as quickly and, (though we don't really know the plot of the miniseries) in my opinion, with less reason. Crime and an anti-bending revolt is just not as terrifying to me as a crazy-as-hell firebender using a comet to burn down the other nations. I dunno.

And that was the basis for my theory.

I think that the creator of the series said something that bending is a combination of genetics and spirituality (Read this from TV Tropes). And the spirituality part is why the Avatar is the only one who can bend all four.

    A few comments for that.

1). I'm just assuming Korra is a prodigy. Azula is in her teens and is arguably a Firebending master. And she's a prodigy. Katara mastered Waterbending in a few months. She's probably a prodigy with alot of power inside. After all, she tore apart a glacier in the first episode. On the Just Bugs Me Avatar page of TV Tropes, people were bugged about how quickly Katara mastered Waterbending, and some people tried using the prodigy explanation.

2). I don't think Aang mastered the elements. At least not Earthbending and Firebending. In the last episode Zuko said Aang needed more practice with Firebending and Toph said he could use more practice with his Earthbending too. If it wasn't for Ozai accidentally unlocking Aang's chakra and the Energybending lesson from the turtle, I doubt that Ozai would've been defeated.

3). As I typed point 2, a thought occured to me about the Avatar State. Roku said that the Avatar State is basically combining all bending knowledge and power from every previous Avatar. Because of that, I think that each Avatar becomes stronger than the previous simply because there are more previous Avatars to draw knowledge upon for the Avatar State. While it is a highly-unlikely explanation as to why Korra mastered three elements already, its an attempt to explain it.
