Wesboro Church Protesting

For many years, the Westboro church has been appearing at funerals meant to honor great men and women who fought in the war, a little girl who had survived 9/11 but died in an accident, for Mr. Rogers, and many more. However this church is not there to support and honor thoughs who passed away with honor, they're there protesting.

The Westboro Church is an Independent family own baptist church located in Kansas. The church had its first public service in 1955.

Not many churches have become so well known however like the Westboro Church, the church has become well known for it's repetive and dishonorable protesting at many soldier funerals and other well known people to the world, all of which in their views supported homosexual relationships and several other events that could be linked to homosexuality.

The church was finally taken to Supreme Court 2007 in well known case, Snyder vs. Phelps. Snyder was having an honorable funeral for his son, a honorable Amercan serving in the United States Marines, who died in action. The Westboro church went and protested at the funeral of Snyder's son and mocked him over his son grieving.

The court had ruled that the Westboro church however was free to protest due to funerals being public, in a public building, in a public place and such were protected under First Ammendment Rights of Freedom of Speech.

So what are you opinions on this church. I personally really hate the church for being so dishonorable, and not that I'm a highly religious person, I feel what they're doing, as a church, go against God's word in the bible. I think the supreme court should have done a small act of offense and should put in an Ammendment where the First Ammendment's Freedom of Speech should be void if it's in a case of a funeral for anybody, not just millitary personel.

i've heard about the church for so long. they're a bunch of retards who have nothing to do except protest on people who aren't who they call, 'honorable people,' mainly because they're homosexual. i swear i just someone to bomb them AND their church so other people won't be hurt even more

I never did liked the church. They are just as much of a sinner for doing so disgraceful. The First Amendment should not protect them for doing something unjustice and rude.

But the bad thing is, is that legally we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. We say that they aren't allowed, then we set a legal precedent that can be used against protesters in the future. We say that they are allowed, then. . . Well, that's pretty self-explanatory.

I respect the church's right to protest wherever they see fit, but I think very little of people willing to ruin a funeral, no matter who it is for. Even if you disagree with something the deceased has done, there's no reason to take it out on their grieving loved ones.

So what else is new? So-called-religious people are always reinterpreting the Bible to support their own agendas, or conveniently forgetting portions of it when it suits them.

I don't. It is one thing to have the right to protest, but it is another thing to abuse that right. In fact, when that Congresswoman in Arizona got shot and those people died, this church said they were going to go protest at the little girl's funeral. For those of you who don't know, there was a little girl (7 or 9) who died in that shooting. Thankfully this church didn't go protest at the funeral.

If a loved one of mine died and this church went to protest at the funeral, I'd probably go over to them and start hitting them with a baseball bat or something.

Absolutely, I'd be over there running them over with my car or something. There's no denying that these people are assholes. But I think if you start denying people the right to protest in one instance, it could start a slippery slope where you're denying it to more and more people in other instances. And I don't agree with that.

<.> But it should only be denied if it is an unjust act. Nothing more. I doubt that someone would even start denying people that right. Plus, why let someone get by with it. If you just go and say "Well, the Twenty-First Amendment does this so you are alright" then more people will end up trying to have that same protection through protests or the like.

Damn you know how I feel, I would hit them in their private parts with a metal pole then shove it up their asses if I can get a chance. Now if I was serious it would be a goat instead and would ram right into them, then I stick a metal pole up their ass.

Over all, I think they are doing this because of Blackmail, yeah black mail and dirt on them, what could that be, an infinite possablitly lies in question of why, why would they disgrace god and ruin their reputation of themselves

I don't think they believe that they are disgracing God. They think they are doing His bidding by acting this way. Or that usually seems to be the case.
    Is all that really necessary?

But if that is what the amendment says, then they are guaranteed that right and you have to let them do it, whether you agree with it or not, unless of course it causes a risk to human life (for example, yelling "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater). And in the same slippery slope mentality, if you start denying people the right to protest, for instance, who's to say one day other rights might not be taken away?

    Er, what now?

See my problem is them going to Military funerals and protesting. When I read that about the marine's funeral my thoughts drifted to what I would have done if they did that at my cousin's funeral, which that funeral is why I still have problems hearing a 21 gun salute, and the fact that I would have started swinging on the church people because of how mad I would be. I was upset that they basically were protesting the message that "Your son went to fight for rights for gays because you raised him to believe that was right and now he's dead because god hates gays. Thank god for dead soldiers." I saw that and it immedeatly made me mad because they literally went and mocked the family for no reason. And when it came down to it, the Supreme Court told the father "Sorry, we tried but it's their right to do this so oh well." Sorry if I'm ranting a bit b ut my emotions are running high from old memories and new information...

Well you can all bitch and moan all you want but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. You gotta love our country! Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Assembly. Ah, the rights of an American. Do I think what they are doing is wrong? Yes. Is it legal? Yes it is perfectly legal.

If you see them protest, you can go protest against them. There is nothing wrong about protesting. Now when you say stuff like, "Oh I am gonna go beat them up. Or imma kill them all." Sorry but that would be battery and attempted murder, murder, or manslaughter. Take your pick, cause technically they didn't physically harm you in any way, correct? You did.

I am not defending for the church's actions. I fucking cant stand religion or even people who think their "god" or their "religion" is all high and mighty. Do I follow the bible? Hell no. Do I follow the preaches and sermons? Hell no. I have my own morals. I know what is right and wrong.

Supreme court rule in favor of Nazi's protest before in history. And the lawyer that defended was a Jewish. Lol. Ironic, isn't it?

Not only that, but I've heard that they are full of people who they have specifically to file charges against people who try to do stuff to them.

    Very much so.

This is our government. You give people freedom and they run rampant with it. Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, and Freedom of Assembly. 3 Righteous Freedom that is a pain in the ass to control.

If this church was in a country say the middle east or some where in africa or even in China, best believe all the members would have been slaughter and are food for the pigs.
