Favorite Couples?

There aren't any pairings in KH that I ship as wholeheartedly as some I do in other fandoms, mostly because I haven't felt very strongly about KH in a long time, but I've always liked Leon/Aerith. And in the first game, I liked Riku/Kairi, though since KH II I've disliked Kairi so much that I wouldn't want to inflict her on anyone.

So there's that.

 

I know you said you'll keep it to yourself, but you went and made me curious. You don't have to say, but I wonder if you're referring to Sora/Riku. Certainly the way these two behaved around each other in KH II makes them seem more of a couple than Sora and Kairi (see: Sora's over-the-top sobbing when the two are reunited). And I think you have a lot more opportunity to see Riku and Sora together, as opposed to anyone and Kairi, really, since she's either stuck on Destiny Islands or being held captive or something. Though since the game is Disney-related and targeted to younger gamers, I don't think this would ever be canon.

I thought about mentioning this in my last post, but decided not to because I can't say I really ship it; then again, like I said up above, I don't really have too much of a care for any ship in KH. Sometimes I think with slash pairings in particular that people tend to stick characters together for very little reason, but in this case, even though I don't think the pairing would ever be canon, it's at least easy to see why someone would want it to be. I personally always kind of like the unrequited, best friends-but-really-I-love-you pairings. I also tend to not like the established canon pairing, particularly if that pairing has a really strong shipping base. (I've thought about this too much >_<)

That was the first pairing that popped into my head when I read your comment, anyhow. And I should hope that members here would be respectful and not bash someone for their choices in this thread.[/ominous warning]

 

I'm not so sure about that. I think the Japanese tend to be much more open-minded about sex/romance related things than Americans. For instance, in Square-Enix world itself, you have the incestuous FFX-2 Yuna/Brother ship going on, and that was far, far too blatant to be anything but what it was. And I can think of a few homosexual relationships in anime I remember as a kid, though the North American dub turned one pair into "cousins" and genderswapped another via voice actors to make it hetero. So I don't think it's impossible that the game developers chose to show a little Sora/Riku, whether for fanservice or to be trolls, or whatever. Though I think Sora/Kairi is supposed to be the endgame, as little as I am interested in that pairing.

Yes! I remember someone making a comic about this (EDIT: it was VG Cats here) which I thought was apt. And who could blame Sora, really? Kairi is freaking annoying, whereas Riku is a total antihero badass.

Hell, the more I ramble about this pairing, the more I like it. But I blame X-Men: First Class for these new slash-tinted glasses I appear to be wearing.
