Kable glanced between Raven and Voltair, his eyes squinting in suspicion. Something about both of their excuses to being late threw Kable off about the situation. Like a small, piercing drone in the back of his head. They clearly knew each other, even if they didn't realize it so much themselves. They were like two sides of the same coin. Kable pushed the thought to the back of his mind when Voltair inquired of they would be joining groups.

"Can we really expect to trust you guys? I mean, we were all just trying to kill each other barely ten minutes ago."

Lucius raised his sword to charge back into the fray when the hair on his arms stood up. He felt a static charge through the air and surge through him. Lucius knew that feeling. He spun around just as the lightning bolt tore open the sky. It surged over the generals head and crashed into the city.

"Sir!" One of his men ran up. "Sir, could that be?"

"Yes." Lucius replied somberly. "That was Princess Jaxx."

The soliders eyes widened. "Sir, I think I misheard you. Did you say..."

"You heard right, boy." Lucius turned his head to the army behind him. "Looks like we need to storm the city for our Princess before those barbarians find out who she is. Who's with me!?" Cheera erutped from the crowd.

The Barbarians heard the worlds of Marcus loud and clear. All fighting stopped, there were many whispers and faces left bewildered at the warriors demand. A death wish for sure to challenge the great Ilda Ironside, Valkyrie of Death... The battlefield was silent, except for the echoing sound of drums and chanting from over the hills. The Barbarians slowly began to part as a woman clad in armor walked through the sea of massive warriors. A slow pounding of swords and axes against shields began as she made her way to the front. The storm overhead moved with her, clouds as dark as night hovered high above where she walked.

"A truly brave warrior, or a foolish one at that..." Ilda said as she gracefully continued to walk towards Marcus. "I am the great Ilda Ironside, conquerer of empires, bane of gods, siren of men, and your executioner on this day." She said with a smirk across her face that was stained and dripping with blood that surely was not her own. She raised her hand and all the pounding of drums and chanting stopped, the cold frigid wind became still and all was truly silent. "I already fought your General Lucius, and while he was a fun enjoyment to spar with, I doubt you are on his level, but I do commend for stepping up to the challenge! Prove your worthiness to be called a warrior and I shall let you live till another day..."

Ilda raised her sword and shield in a defensive stance, they both were stained and dripping with blood. "Disappoint... And I will slaughter you and steal your soul and condemn it for all eternity..."

    --------------------

Everything had happened so fast that it left Oryx's head spinning, and his beard with little streaks of static going up and down it. Oryx collected himself after a bit, the assassins had no more motivation to fight it seemed, go figure of course, they were assassins and only loyal to themselves. Oryx picked himself up off the ground and noticed that the two shield-maidens were gone!

"WE LOST THE LOVELY PRINCESS!" He exclaimed, being a little late to the party he didn't realize that everyone already knew that. "We better figure out what castle she's in, because I am definitely not fitting my big arse down any more pipes." Oryx said as he sheathed his Svellbane and his fire powers disappeared.

The moments passed by as Marcus awaited in an impatient fervor for the head of the insurgent force to step forth. For the time that would pass, he continued to scrutinize the opposing vessels, shaking his head at every rustle of movement that did not yield the one whom he had challenged. When, upon the last of these moments, no retort had been given from his enemy, he shook his head a final time, and prepared to return to his own lines, reserved to the thought that no warrior present would see fit to take his challenge.

However, as he reached the midpoint of an about face, the beginnings of a new gale of the storm proved enough to recapture his attention. The crunching of footsteps nearing him drew his eyes across ice and snow towards a figure most others in his position might have scoffed at: a woman, younger in age (not so much older than himself, he surmised, if appearance retained any value). Though clad in armor, the visible features of her frame and figure struck in a brilliant dedication to the craft of combat fitness; in spite of the fairness of her face and the would-be serenity of her blue eyes, her expression denoted pure ferocity and such a will power as to stand in league with Marcus’… Almost.

The Demigod Colonel managed a sharp grin of pleasure, tempered by a tinge of guilt as the woman’s appearance and demeanor served as a harsh reminder of his mother. With a fluid breath, Marcus would assume composure as if nothing of worry had crossed his mind. The grin, strong, and confident, returned to his face in fullness.

“Foolish?” he said with a half-chuckle. “Perhaps; perhaps not. Only time and battle will determine which truth is there. Certainly, though, even the most foolish can be truly brave.” Taking his cue from Ilda’s stance, Marcus positioned his polearm. Brandishing the pole across his front, he raised the bladed end of his weapon out from and above his right side; if she was prepared to defend, he would be the one to take first liberty.

“General Lucius is fine commander,” he said, endearing his ‘superior.’ As he spoke, a swift, and yet unseen power would course its way through the polearm, concentrating as a dense reserve within the blade. “But I daresay, you’ll find more a warrior in me than him. Ilda Ironside! You stand now before Marcus Maximus, Son of Queen Andromache of the Amazon Tribes, and of Mars, God of War!”

Closing the tail of his introduction, Marcus cut his blade on a descending diagonal. Still some distance from Ilda, the weapon itself would be a way off from connecting. Instead, as though emitted from the edge of the blade itself, would come a silver-hued crescent of energy, drawn with precision in the form of the path of Marcus’ cut. The crescent-shaped projectile would rush forward in a convex arc, slicing a path toward, Ilda, and the defense she would mount.

This move, so trivial, was guaranteed in Marcus’ mind to prove little more than nuisance to the barbarian. As the projectile would follow its course, so too would Marcus set himself on the move in a circling movement to place himself on what was then Ilda’s left side. As he would follow this course, his blade, now positioned in the lower end of his right side, would begin amassing a second store of power.

Sihtric huffed as his two newest problems were led away for the moment. "Sihtric! If you're done playing house, get your arse outside man!" he heard one of his clansmen shout from somewhere near the gate. "There's trouble!"
"What in the love of mik..." Sihtric muttered as he took off running toward the gate, which he could tell was somewhat damaged by the electric storm from earlier.
The view from just outside the gate was worse off than Sihtric had thought. There were two great holes in the ground from where the lightning had struck outside the gate. Dead and wounded men from both armies were littered everywhere. Upon seeing a familiar face among the well, Sihtric grabbed the man's arm. "Fenris." he growled, "By the gods, lad, what became of our king?"
"Sihric!" the warrior responded with as much respect as he could in the midst of the chaos "We don't know sir. The blast struck right on top of Loch and the enemy general. Now I fear we've lost them both to Viduus."
Sihtric hissed, greatly disturbed by the idea of what losing two great leaders in one day would do to the morale of the armies. His eyes scanned the charred battleground bit by bit until he finally managed to spot someone in the distance who at least slightly resembled Finnan. He caught notice of the man just as he stood, brushed off having been struck by lightning like it was nothing, and charged once again at Lucius.
"Loch!" Sihtric bounded forward just as quickly as his legs would carry him, managing to stand in the way of his ally just in time. He shoved his hands hard into Finnan's chest, forcing him back "Not this day, friend. We need him alive." As expected, Sihtric was met with a head but to the face as Finnan, completely lost to rage, tried to force his way to past his ally. Sihtric ignored the blood that fountained down his face as he held his ground.
Others around the area noticed the struggle and lept forward to help. It took a total of 5 men to finally stop Finnan's advance to Lucius.
Sihtric eyed the new king for a moment, it was quite impressive to see five hardened warriors struggle to hold him back from killing his target. Let us just hope he doesn't kill me for this later... With that thought, he turned heel to face Lucius.
"Do not mistake my interference for any sort of care for your life, general." he spoke in a gruff tone as he stepped forward, "The only reason our king is not tearing your limbs off right now is that I need you to carry a message." He raised a balled fist and opened his palm to reveal a lock of silver hair and the torn seal of the Darrem family line. Once it was revealed, he tossed both objects into the dust at Lucius's feet "If you expect the offspring of your Emperor to survive the night, you will withdraw what's left of your army and retreat back to your Emperor. And once you're there, tell him that if he expects her to survive to see the next full moon, he will return here to negotiate the value of her life himself."

In response to Voltair's challenge, Raven simply winked but otherwise dismissed the idea.

"As fun as it sounds: all of us holding hands and rushing off to save our lost allies together, I can't imagine it would end well." Raven shrugged "Though I do appreciate your willingness to try..."

Raven laughed a bit as Kable's comment interrupted her. "-Case and point." she gestured a hand toward Kable. "I can't promise my allies won't kill yours. And even if I could, I wouldn't expect you to take my word at face value." she tilted her head, "So sadly, I think it would be best to search for our lost ones separately." She added before moving toward Merrick and Tess. Once she had rejoined the both of them she turned to face Voltair and his companions. "It's been fun. Take care, all of you." she gave a sort of mock bow before she walked away between the two siblings giving Merrick a nod indicating that she intended for them to leave with her at least for the moment. She couldn't really understand why, but part of her couldn't get away from Voltair and the others fast enough. But some smaller part of her did want to stay. Either way, she knew it wouldn't have been a good idea.

    A collab between @Hope and @Taboo Sho
Jaxx scowled at the man who ran off to deliver the message, imperial general.... Lucius? How far did I take us? She coughed again, finally seeing clearly enough through the settling dust to realize she was in the middle of a city. Although it was a bit damaged and the streets seemed to be abandoned it looked familiar. Are we in Barisor!?
"Don't go getting any ideas. Your people might be outside, but no one is coming to save you." the man must have noticed Jaxx's face expression change when he mentioned Lucius. The one who was leading the group then turned his attention to the man behind Jaxx, "Take them somewhere more secure for now. Their likelihood of surviving the rest of the day depends on their behavior." he raised an eyebrow at Jaxx with his last comment, who spat on the ground at his feet, before he walked away.
Knowing she wasn't going to make any progress when surrounded by enemies, Jaxx decided to submit to her captors for the moment. If she could draw as little attention to herself as possible, maybe she would be left alone long enough to come up with an escape plan.

After being led to the city prison, and through a long maze of cells, Jaxx was finally taken to a small room far below ground. After being fitted with a fairly rusty looking pair of restraints for her arms, and Lilith was given the same treatment, the two were left alone and locked in. While waiting for Lilith to wake up, Jaxx got busy trying to find a way to break or pick her restraints.

"Somebody's gonna be a martyr... Or at the very least the cause of these barbarians establishing a permanent foothold here and eventually taking control of all of Aezureth." A voice echoed in Jaxx's mind, taunting her. "Unless, of course, you partner up with Lilith. The two of you together may perhaps get you out of the situation you got into. I suppose I could berate you for being such an emotional little girl to wind up here, but that's in the past now. What matters is you two getting to somewhere safe. I suppose I'll have to guide the two of you to freedom when you're both ready."

Jaxx wasn't sure who it was talking to her at first. But slowly, she guessed it had to be Voltair. No one else in Lilith's group was known to be powerful enough to communicate from that distance. Maybe Raven, but Jaxx had never known her to do so. "I don't need your help." she snapped back, rather defensively both in her mind and out loud. Though she wasn't sure if he would even hear her. "If you are who I think you are, I have no reason to trust you."
After a few long moments of little success, she heard Lilith finally stir. "Are you awake yet? Getting us out of here would be a lot easier if I didn't have to drag you."

Stirring slightly, Lilith gazed around, noticing Jaxx first, and noticing her foe's restraints almost immediately after. Sitting up slowly, the giantess groaned, the pain in her body was immense, and she wasn't quite sure where it came from. Last she remembered, her and Jaxx were fighting with her friends around, and then everything faded to black. Upon attempting to move, she found herself restrained as well. Suddenly, she felt heavy, and whatever words she was about to say to rebuttal Jaxx's statement was lost on her tongue.

Memories of her time in prison flooded her head, and her body sagged against the wall. After everything she'd done, after all the effort she and her allies had put into planning a strategy, she was again imprisoned. What was the use, then, what is the point? Her eyes visibly darkened, and she gazed solemnly at the floor, not speaking a word, opting to remain completely silent and stare blankly at nothing in particular.

    It was over.

Jaxx prepared herself for Lilith's reply, she was somewhat annoyed and disappointed when none came. In fact, Lilith behaved quite strangely. She sort of looked around for a moment and all the fight seemed to melt right out of her. Jaxx's eyebrows came together slightly, "What's your problem?" she snapped, annoyed. "Snap out of it, we have to find a way out of here."

Lilith looked up at Jaxx, all light devoid from her eyes, before staring back at the floor. Silence filled the air again, despite Lilith's boldness and tenacity, nothing was said. She just remained silent and continued staring blankly at the floor. Jaxx's voice did nothing to inspire the giantess, who simply stared silently at the ground before mumbling out, "It's over, Jaxx."

Jaxx was in the process of trying to break her restraints against a jagged stone on the wall when she heard Lilith's reply. She paused, accidentally scratching the side of her hand while not paying attention to her movements "What on earth are you talking about?" she glared "You should know better than anyone, a prison is just a room. Get up and help me before they kill us both."

Lilith was about to rebuttal when Jaxx hurt herself and concern immediately crossed her face for a moment, despite being angry with her. Turning away and looking back at the wall, she simply sighed and shrugged. "If you recall, I had given up then, because I truly believed that you had the ideals and honor to bring peace with or without me. But it seems like the more and more I try to see the good, the more and more you prove to me that you don't have what it takes to rule, just as I don't. I'm sure your father will come save you while I rot away in prison for another decade or so..."

Jaxx sighed, finally recognizing she wasn't going to get anywhere with Lilith with her usual attitude. "Lilith... Look I do see the good in what you were trying to do ok? I never thought you were completely wrong. Just-" she growled, unable to figure out how to word her thoughts "-misguided. But I never intended to lead the way my father does either...." she walked toward Lilith and leaned against the wall next to her, temporarily giving up on her escape plan. "I suppose my own view on politics falls somewhere in between you two-" realizing she was going off of the important topic, she changed the subject "Besides, if my father ends up being forced to come all the way here himself just to save me, I think I might be better off rotting away in here with you." she chuckled, but it was clear she meant it at least a little bit.
"Seriously though, what good is giving up going to do? Especially if you think I'm so unfit to rule. Sounds counter productive to me." she straightened up, suddenly grabbing her hand and looping it around a bar behind herself before pulling against it with all her strength. There was a sick popping noise and Jaxx's arm slacked slightly, having just been pulled out of place. Fortunately, Raven was right about there being less feeling around that arm where it hadn't healed all the way. But just barely. She grit her teeth against the majority of pain that still remained from dislocating her own arm "I can tell you one thing," she croaked getting back on her knees and pulling her arms in front of her using the extra reach her injured arm gave her. "I refuse to await my fate at the hands of my enemy, or my father. I'll pave my own path, for the good of myself and our people. Even if I have to play by his rules for now." she reached into her hair with her good arm, ignoring the searing that it caused in the injured one that was dragged along because of her her restraints. What she brought out was a single jagged metal pin that had been woven into one of her braids. She used it to get to work on picking the lock on her shackles "The question is, will you? Because from where I'm standing if you can't even manage to get yourself out of a box of stone and iron, how can you expect to lead a nation away from its self-destructive path?"

Lilith looked to Jaxx and listened, almost enthralled with what she was saying. It made sense of course, to not let others shape your destiny, but she always saw Jaxx as more or less an obedient slave to her father's will. The only time she went against him, was when she freed her from captivity. But even still, Lilith refused to let Jaxx do this on her own. What good ruler would leave somebody out to dry, let alone, give up. Right as always, Jaxx was, not that Lilith would admit it. Though she did find motivation enough to pull against her shackles, struggling to her feet, she pulled tightly, and with more effort then she would have liked, she was able to snap the chains free, leaving only the shackles attached to her wrists. "I hate it when you're right... But you are. We need to get out of here. One of us needs to take the throne from your father, whether you like it or not, and we aren't gonna do that sitting around in prison, right?"

Lucius stood silent as the barbarian told Lucius of his demands. The locke of hair and the Darrem seal sat at his feet. Once he was done, Lucius lifted his chin. "I will accept your terms, but only because you are foolish to think you can negotiate with Emperor Atticus."

Lucius grinned madly and turned to walk away. He stopped short and turned back. "Atticus will rain hell upon you and everyone you hold dear, barbarian. So pray to whatever gods you worship. You will be meeting them soon enough. Enjoy burying your chief." Lucius gestured to Haldor's desecrated body atop the city walls before he picked his sword up and walked away. His men, after some hesitation, followed with him.

"Sir, why are we leaving? We almost had them!" One of the soliders spoke up, anger seeping into his voice.

"They were more behind the ealls. "Lucius explained. "There's no way they would've been able to take the Princess without a large group of them. So we give them what they want.

"Alert Emperor Atticus immediately. Tell him that by bizarre circumstances, the barbarians have captured Princess Jaxx and demand his presence. Also inform him that we require reinforcements, as we plan on holding out here."

"Yes sir!" The solider ran off to perform his instructions. Lucius looked back to the city. It angered him to move back, but with Jaxx turned sudden hostage, Lucius couldn't risk her life in a daring halfassed attempt to take the city. He needed a plan. And more able bodies.

    ---------

Kable nodded, understanding what Raven was getting to. They were enemies, no way around it. They would continue to be enemies until this war was over. He watched Raven walk back to Merrick and Tess and he turned to the others. Oryx was late to the conversation, Paige was still unconscious, and Voltair looked like he was gazing off towards Raven and the group as they departed. Suddenly, they were alone.

"Well, now we need to find our own way to Lilith. If they reach the girls before they do, otherwise they'll have Lilith and we'll be out of a job and a country."

Paige groaned, before sitting up while holding a hand to the back of her head where Tess hit her and Raven healed her. "Owww." she complained "I must have a hangover. I know that bitch did not hit me hard enough to give me this bad of a headache." she said, still smiling in spite of her annoyance with how easily the assassins had been able to get the best of her. She looked around, a bit surprised to see that the assassins and Jaxx were gone already. She also noticed the massive hole in the ground from Jaxx's bolt. "Oh man." she pouted "I missed the whole thing, didn't I?"

Ilda inhaled a deep breath and created a thick ice wall in front of her with a strong exhale. She noticed that Maximus was moving to her left side so she threw her shield on the ground and jumped on it and with her free hand sprayed a trail of ice and she began sliding on it, gaining speed as she moved along it. Moving to her right out from behind the wall and in a circle motion to Marcus. She wanted to keep her distance from him for the moment, to test his ranged abilities as well as get a better reading of the warrior. As she slid on the ice in a circle, she inhaled and exhaled again a massive breath towards Marcus.

The barbarians on the hill observed as Marcus and Ilda had begun their duel, the fighting on the battlefield had mostly stop to watch and see who's leader would prevail. The opportunity to take the city had come. With a large war cry a massive number of reinforcements came barreling over the hill and straight towards Carmilla Sar.

On the other side of the battlefield, adrenaline began pumping in the barbarians as they saw their brothers and sisters come rushing over the snowy hills. Another loud cry was unleashed and the barbarians rushed the other army with renewed ferocity and determination to slay their enemies. However they were not foolish enough to be directly caught in the duel of leaders, for it was a death wish certainly.
    --------------------------

Oryx gasped and was taken back by such words from Kable. He was quick to scold the man, “I say bite thy tongue lassie! Even in complete darkness hope breaks through like a fluttering candle, and I say for all that darkness that surrounds that simple candle, it does not hold the might to extinguish its burning passion!” Oryx had given his word to join Lilith on her mission to save her kingdom and he was going to see it through.

Pulling his sword and sliding one finger down the flat side of it, glowing blue runes appeared. “I have pledged my blade to the lovely warrior princess Lilith, by the words inscribed on this blade I am to uphold my loyalty to any I pledge its steel to! Should the lovely Lilith Newgate fall which will not come to pass on my watch, then I shall pick up her burning candle and turn it into a blazing sea of fire against this wicked emperor!” Grabbing the hilt with both hands he slammed his sword into the ground and a massive shockwave was sent out binding Oryx’s oath to Lilith. The runes on the sword glowed brighter and hummed softly.

Kable knelt down beside Paige, checking her head. "Well," he said. "You shouldn't have a concussion with that thick skull of yours, but you should take it easy. And in answer to your question, here's a brief run down. We fought two assassins, Voltair and Raven showed up late, and the two princesses vanished somewhere towards the east. Usual nonsense."

Kable turned back to Oryx, startled as the behemoth slammed his sword into the ground. He saw the runes on the sword glow like a dull fire. "Oryx, I admire your commitment. But we have to figure out what the hell we're going to do about this. Lilith could be anywhere to the east at this point. We should start heading that way now." Kable turned and offered his hand to Paige to take and help her up.

"Y'all never fail to disappoint." Voltair sighed as everyone ignored his explanation as to where Jaxx was. He almost looked like he was about to start rambling to himself as he headed towards the approaching Gerik and Claire.

"Hey. You know you shouldn't be so apprehensive around me. The fighting has stopped." Voltair spoke as Gerik tensed up a bit and his hand twitched towards his sword.

    "What happened?"

"Aww you know, the usual. Jaxx caught up to Lilith and they tried working out their problems. But given that the two of them have the combined emotional capacity of a moody twelve year-old, Jaxx let her emotions get the better of her and accidentally sent herself and Lilith away. Which you can see from that big hole in the ground."

    "Jaxx did that?" Claire asked.

"Yep." Voltair smiled as he crouched down to Claire's eye level. "And who might you be?"

"I'm Claire." She replied before Gerik pulled her back closer to him.

"I see. Cute kid you have there." Voltair spoke as he stood up. "Claire, could I possibly bother you do to me a tiny favor and go over to Raven? There's something I would like to talk to Gerik about really quick."

"Why?" Claire asked before turning up to look at Gerik.

"It's fine Claire. Go on. I'll be right there." Claire nodded with a bit of confusion on her face before hurrying off towards Raven. "Okay. I assume everyone else is out of earshot. What do you want?"

"Admittedly I wouldn't normally take the time to tell you this, but I might as well since you've got a kid with you. It's about Jaxx. Jaxx ended up accidentally taking herself and Lilith to the middle of a war zone. I can only assume you want to keep Claire safe, so you should know what to expect at your destination."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"Why should an innocent little girl be punished by the whims of conquerors or power hungry emperors? I know you're suspicious of me and you have no reason to trust anything I say. But I give you my word that what I'm telling you is the truth. So keep what I said in mind if you're truly concerned for Claire's safety." Voltair walked away after that and Gerik headed towards Raven in silence.

"So you were saying we need to hurry Kable? Let's see..." Voltair put his fingers to his lips and whistled. Four black horses came running up to them. "These should suffice. They won't get tired and will quickly get us to the mountain ranges to the east. Once we're there I'll get us over the mountains."

    -----

"I don't care if you don't need my help or don't trust me. You're not in a position to be so prideful." The voice berated Jaxx as Lilith was waking. It was silent as Lilith and Jaxx talked to each other.

"Man you two take the fun out of things. I was totally gonna remove the shackles and let you two question how they suddenly came off. But instead you had to go do it yourselves. Which, by the way, alerted the guards outside. They'll be here right about..." Before the voice could finish the cell doors were forcibly opened, the guards opening up to see the cause of the chains breaking.

As they got far enough away from the others that Raven was confident none of them could hear her, she turned to Merrick and Tess. "I suspect that because no one can be sure if Jaxx and Lilith survived that spell backfire, you had both intended to go through with the plans Merrick told me about earlier," she spoke softly before reaching to her sword and untying a ribbon of fabric from around the handle. It was simple. Red in color with foreign writing stitched across its length. She looked it over once more before extending it to Merrick. "If so, I understand. Regardless of whether or not you have completed your contract with the Emperor, this turned out to be a lot more work than either of you agreed to. So, I will tell you what I know. From there, your path will be up to you. I found this ribbon tied around your friend's scythe. It's rare but originates from the West Desert, Labiski. It is my belief that your guild is hiding out there." she paused as Merrick took the cloth from her.
"Should you choose that path, be warned: You may have heard rumors of the treachery the desert's landscape holds. The truth is it is much worse. And that is nothing compared to the inhabitants. They have no love for strangers in their lands. This ribbon represents an old law, but think of it as a promise. The words that are written there mean 'to do no harm'. If you keep it visible, you are making a promise to not bother them if they do not bother you. It also symbolizes your agreement to not tell anyone you know of their existence. It's not a guarantee they won't cause you trouble, but it does increase your odds."

She noticed Gerik come into view and paused, looking back at him and Claire. She was somewhat surprised they had decided to follow, having hoped Gerik would find a safe place for Claire in Karsesh. She continued speaking, "I had hoped to be able to help you, as I had told you earlier. But if there is any chance Jaxx is still alive, I can't abandon her. If you decide to stay and see your contract through, we should leave soon." she finished speaking just as Claire approached her.

Curious as to why Gerik was not with her, she glanced back in the direction Claire had come and noticed Voltair and Gerik were talking. She was curious about what the two of them could possibly have to talk about. But she dismissed the curiosity. "Claire?" she smiled, "I thought we left you somewhere safe. Did you two get bored of Karsesh already?"

"You must get mad a lot then because I'm rarely NOT right." Jaxx taunted. She had almost thought Voltair was done after he chastised her. So she was startled when she heard his voice again just after Lilith broke her chains. When he initially spoke of the guards coming, she partially hoped he was wrong. However, it didn't take long before they filtered into the cell. She groaned, Could you not have warned us they were so close before she did that? she complained as she took a step backward away from them to stand next to Lilith. "So much for a quiet exit... Are you ready to fight our way out of this? We can't let any of them free to alert the others of our escape."

Tess had looked at Merrick with a scowl on her face when Raven had walked passed and nodded to him. Merrick picked himself up from the ground and offered a hand to Tess. “She must still live” He said as she pulled herself up. “Damn her! We’ve done our part. What does it matter if she still lives?” Tess seethed at him “Let’s just go!”

Merrick sighed aloud and took one last look over his shoulder at the group they had been fighting only moments ago. The valkyrie was beginning to wake and Merrick brought his hand over his chest where her blade had nearly ended him. He looked over the group as a whole and spat before turning back to Tess, “Come” he said putting his hand on her shoulder and directing her in the direction Raven had set off in. “We should at least talk to her before we leave”

No one had spoken since Tess and Merrick joined Raven as she walked away from the group. Tess’s constant frown let both of them know she wasn’t happy with the current situation. A suitable distance away from the others Raven turned and began speaking to the two. After handing the ribbon to Merrick she was drawn away by the appearance of Claire.

“Let’s go Merrick” Tess said as Raven stepped away. “We know the dangers of the desert and if that’s where the guild is we can end all this. Don’t give me that look!” Tess said grabbing the scruff of his shirt and stepping close to him. “Let’s. Go.” “We’ll see if the princess is alive” Merrick responded looking her in the eye. She clicked her tongue in annoyance and let go of his shirt pushing him away from her. “It’s on the way” Merrick said straightening his still torn top. “It’s the opposite direction!” “We will see if she lives, maybe help her and then be one our way” “Fine” Tess said her scowl deepening.

Finnan sat in the large wooden chair. He was alone in the vast hall that served as the meeting point of the former occupants governing body. Finnan sat in that large chair head resting on his fist still covered head to toe in the dried blood of the battle fought. It had taken quite some time for him to come down from his blood rage and even then his rage hadn’t fully subsided. One of the men made the mistake of talking to him as he had shoved open the great wooden doors to the hall. He had been rewarded with a broken nose for his trouble and the other men dragging him out closed the doors and left him. He wasn’t sure how much time had passed since then but he had control of himself again.

One of the doors slowly opened and a single man walked in slowly but confidently. Head held up eyes looking directly into Finnan’s. “My King” he said bowing slightly as he reached him. “Preparations for rites are nearly complete. It took quite a number of men to bring King Haldor down, but we managed” he said chancing a smile. Finnan simply stared at him. “Yes, well” He said face becoming straight again “The daughter of Atticus is in the dungeons along with the other prisoner. They are under guard and in a weakened state” Having finished his report he stood there silent watching Loch. Silently waiting to see what he would say or do.

After a moments tense silence Loch stood from his chair and stepped down from the small dais that the chair was on stepping close to him. “Sihtric” he said coming within an inch of his face. “You are either very brave or very stupid” he said slapping the man on the shoulder with a smile. All at once Sihtric seemed to relax. “Come, I wish to see our latest arrivals before the ceremony begins.”

“My King” one of the guards said as Loch and Sihtric approached the cell door. “Let’s see ‘em then” Loch said nodding at the door. The guard opened the door and stepped inside followed by Sihtric, Loch and the other guard. The site they met left the guards quite stunned. The three men stood and watched Loch waiting for a reaction. A small smirk tugged at his lips. “Restrain them” He said. The three men moved forward to restrain the two.

Jaxx reacted instantly as the guards advanced by jumping back, and using her discarded shackles as a weapon. "Over my dead body." she growled as she dispatched one of them with a strong and well-placed swing to the head. She could tell her powers were still quite weakened from earlier, but she had managed to get her wits about her. This time, she wasn't going to be defeated so easily, she would make sure of it.

Lilith reacted similarly to Jaxx, jumping back and preparing to fight, "I'm pretty sure they need us alive, so we can use that to our advantage right?" Her shackles rattled as she readied her fists, glowing rather dully, but still bright enough to signify the use of her powers, though she didn't make any moves, or advances, waiting for Jaxx to make the first push, and ready to follow her lead. Which came as a well placed chain whip to the skull of one of the guards. Following suit, Lilith slammed her fist against the air in front of the remaining guard, sending a tremor forward that shot him out the door towards Loch, while continuing forward towards the other two men standing at the door.

Loch simply sidestepped as his guard came flying towards him. He landed with a thud into the men behind him and the crumpled in a heap. Neither Sihtric nor Loch moved. Sihtric was keeping his eyes on the two girls in front of them, slightly impressed with the skills they had displayed. Loch’s smirk had turned into a smile. A somewhat disturbing image as he was still covered in old blood. There was a moment of tense anticipation as neither of the parties made a move. The men behind Finnan had recovered. Two of them had re-entered the room standing beside Loch while the one had gingerly made his way up and out of the dungeon.

It soon became evident that there was a lot of commotion going on at the entrance. Not long after the noise began armed men and women began assembling into the cell armed to the teeth in their battle gear with weapons drawn. When the room threatened to become too crowded, men waited at the door as to ensure that each warrior could fight without being impeded by their own allies. Say one thing for Loch’s army, say they were well trained.

“Tell me Sihtric” Loch said once the room settled. “Who do you see in front of you?” “My King?” Sihtric responded unsure of the answer Loch was looking for. “Who do you see in front of you?” “The daughter of the emperor” He answered almost as a question. “Right” Loch looked directly at Lilith “Tell me, how many daughters does the emperor have?” “One” Sihtric answered with a smile. “One” Loch said his own smile growing. “Kill the giantess” Sihtric took a step forward drawing his own weapon. “Oh and Sihtric” He turned to look at Loch. “Try not to kill the emperor’s daughter”

The men began advancing on the two girls, weapons beating of breastplates.

Jaxx stopped fighting the moment Loch made his order and immediately stepped in between Sihtric and Lilith with her palms outstretched as she dropped the chain she had been using to defend herself. "Woa hey guys, let's not get ahead of ourselves." she was quick to change her tone, speaking hastily but trying to take on a sarcastic confidence. "Unless you want to kill the wrong girl." she paused for a moment realizing her antics managed to stop them from advancing at least for a moment. She looked back at Lilith briefly "It appears we have no choice, your majesty, we're going to have to tell them the truth. Forgive me, it's the only way to keep you alive." she sighed, turning back to the others. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Raven, the princess's bodyguard. I wear the official seal to act as a decoy as a precaution to draw the attention of anyone who might want to target her. If you kill her, you'll have to go through me." she spoke loudly to try to catch Loch's attention as he walked away "But your king has made his point. If he calls you and his other lackeys off, we'll cooperate."

Lilith readied herself as the barbarians closed in, until Jaxx stood in front of her, declaring her; Lilith, as the emperor's daughter. If not for the fact that she might be killed if she didn't play along, she would have puked in disgust at the thought of being related to Atticus in any way. Pretending to be Raven, Jaxx made up a story on the spot, and Lilith begrudgingly played along, dropping her guard and standing straight. "If you insist, Raven. I trust your judgement."

Loch paused as the smaller girl spoke. His men had stopped advancing and were waiting for him to act. Turning around he walked past Sihtric and stood inches away from Raven. He stood quite a few feet taller than her and he had to look down to meet her eye. She stared back at him either confidently or defiantly, Loch couldn’t tell which. But then he didn’t much care. His grin turned into a wide smile looking more akin to a snarl. He turned his back to her seemingly to leave when he turned with a sudden movement striking Raven through the face with an open palm. The slap caused her to fall to the floor. “Go through you?” Loch snarled at her through gritted teeth. “If I wanted it you’d both be dead in a moment” He added as he kicked her in the ribs. The hit lifted her from the floor and sent her back into the cell wall.

The giantess who was supposed the emperors daughter moved towards Raven. “I wouldn’t” Loch warned while bringing his arms back stretching and cracking his neck. “Not if you want her to live that is”

Loch nodded his head towards them and the guards moved in. “Make sure their restraints are reinforced” Loch said turning away again. “And put them in separate cells. You don’t want a repeat of what just happened” Loch said to Sihtric. The man nodded his response. “We’ve a funeral to attend” He said making his way out of the dungeon.

Marcus would give but a brief second of pause to observe the handiwork of his opponent. His arc of energy, in clear route to otherwise cleave against the barbarian chief, met instead with a wall of dense ice, summoned forth in a near-instant. Whether or not the barrier itself survived the collision was then inconsequential, and Marcus would move his mind accordingly with the adversary’s movements.

His own motion was far more conservative than the chief’s. Following along with the sliding, circular maneuver entailed little more than a controlled rotation on his part. Spinning on the controlled axis of a grounded rear foot, he pivoted in an exceedingly swift manner. All this while, he would meticulously trace her speed. Absolute precision in such matters was always elusive, but combat in this regard was less a science and more an art; such exactness was not needed.

Certain that his estimation of her path would prove reliable, if not entirely accurate, he would take another motion of his weapon. This time, he would press the bottom end of the shaft into the ground, piercing through the snow and into the earth beneath it. Multiple results would ensue from this, putting his refined abilities with his own power to work.

First and foremost, the upper half of the weapon would begin radiating his energy in an ambient field; this energy would, as a byproduct, produce a buffer of projected heat as a ward against the growing cold from Ilda’s breath. From out of this very same field would come a second wave of energy, on a trajectory towards where Marcus anticipated Ilda’s path would place her upon its arrival.

In this same instance, energy would also project from the bottom end of the weapon. A smaller, and more discrete concentration, this one would cut a swath beneath the snow, burrowing an unseen path way as it looped around into the reverse path of Ilda’s movement. Given its path, and the timing of its release, it would emerge from its tunnel just as the other wave would cross her path.

By this effect, Marcus was attempting a pincer-type assault, the aim of which was to, if not set his foe squarely into his projections, force her hand into a more limited range of maneuverability. With confidence in his plan and his power now flowing steadily in reserve within his weapon, he retracted the pole from the ground and prepared to meet the chief’s next move.

Kable walked over to the horses, inexplicably drawn to them. They neighed softly and looked him dead in the eye. The demon inside purred again. These are dark beings. Kable thought to himself. He then turned his head to Voltair.

"I'm amazed you could call just beautiful creatures into existence." Kable hoped onto the horse everyone else did the same. He turned the horse to face east and it immediately obeyed him. "Then we better ride fast. Those mountains are no joke."
