This might have been a topic that has been discussed here before. But at this point it might be better to make an updated thread than try to bump an old one.

    Anyway, my favorites are:

    Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy VII + Crisis Core
    Final Fantasy XV

In no particular order. I just like those ones

I've tried many but the only ones I really enjoyed was FFX and Crisis Core.
FF is a bit of hit and miss for me. Not sure why. It's not like they're bad but just not quite my thing?

VIII has always been my favorite. I really enjoyed the characters, and the story, while full of plot holes, was still very much the sort of story I like, magic, time travel, romance. The Junction system was sort of meh, but I liked the actual battles and the limit break system. There were a lot of locations, decent enough graphics for the PS one, and a great soundtrack.

I've played V through XII, although I never got the chance to complete V. I love all of them in different ways (love-hate with X-2, but still, there's some love there), but I suppose if I had to now give honorable mentions, it'd be to IX and VI. I think VI probably has the best written story, and it has a lot of different types of characters to choose from. IX is loved because it's sort of the odd man out- a throw back to the older games when all of the others in that era were focusing on more modern, tech-driven settings. IX also probably has the most unique main character in Zidane, a lighthearted character without the irritation of someone like Tidus. It was refreshing.

X-2 threw me off. I didn't like the throw back to ATB-like battle. The story was promising but I'm not fond of it's "true" ending. I do love the ending where you can
choose to have Yuna move on and leave Tidus dead. That felt so full circle to me with her character and the message of the first game. Well the message I perceived.

I liked X as well but I didn't find it had much replay value. Does anyone else have that kinda FF game? It's good but you aren't really driven to replay?

^ The battle system of X-2 was what I actually loved about it. Most of the new characters were dreadful and the old ones were butchered, and the story (at least the "perfect ending") was a slap in the face to X, and, I dunno, not that interesting- like that pop star shit, and the boring rivalry with whatever Leblanc and her losers called themselves- but the battles were a lot of fun and there were some decent challenges in the game. Despite the fact that the system was almost unbearably girly, I thought the dresspheres were both useful (and a sort of call back to FF V) and visually appealing, and helped make up for the fact that there were only three party members to choose from.

I've replayed all of the games that I've played (except V, because I lost it in a move and never finished it :( ) at least once, and the majority multiple times. When I was more into gaming, ten-fifteen years ago, I thought the games had a lot of replay value. Nowadays, I can't muster up enough energy to even start an FF, since I know how time-intensive they are. So I get what you're saying.

I didn't mind it being girl after I got passed the intro part with the pop star stuff. The new characters and rivals were truly laughable though. The nail in the coffin for me was the battle system since I don't like FF's ATB system. The only time I've been able to ignore it was with Chrono Trigger.

I did like the dressphere mechanic though. It was a fun way to add more. The whole sphere logic made sense as well since we've seen how crucial they are in that world. Like spheres to record messages and the like.

Aw sorry you lost FFV D:
Well it's not just time. I don't really have a life in my crappy little hole on earth and college is out for the moment so I have the time to waste, I just can't bring myself to play them again. Like I really just don't want too. For most, it was cause I didn't like them but I found FFX's story real good. Still can't bring myself to play it. I wish it had a new game+.

Felt the same way about X-2. I actually hated it at first. Something about the first few chapters didn't really sit well with me and I never has the interest to finish it. I looked up the story though and thought the ending was interesting.

I loved X. But now that I know the story, going back and trYing to play through again feels tedious. In my opinion, it's a slow game.

Crisis core will probably always be special to me because it was the first FF game I actually finished. And it still makes me sad.

XV was stunning. At least the first half of the game was the best from FF I've seen in a long time. I just wish they hadn't rushed the second half so much.

Yeah the first few chapters were a bit too cheery or happy I guess. On it's own that's not a bad thing but when X shows this depressive world, the first few chapters of X-2 kinda put you in shock by contrast. haha
The story had some interest to me over the ending. I liked how some things could be done different. The true ending would've killed the story for me but luckily it had an alt I would prefer. :D

X is a slow game, it would've REALLY benefited from a new game+ in my opinion. Whenever I'd try to replay I'd lose steam by the time you can confront Sin. All the extra to do is kinda daunting and I hated trying to go to a town to grab something only for some extra boss to block my path. (looking at you starting village I couldn't return to for a Jecht sphere)
A new game+ though would've been perfect. It'd keep your completion of the extra stuff and let you enjoy the story as you pleased.

I liked Crisis Core. Zack was a fine character to me. I see many FF fans hated it though, something about Genesis.

This thread makes me realize that I should really play more of the FF games. I've really only played FFX, and at that, never had the drive to finish it. I should start playing them... in order.

There's not really any reason to play them in order, besides a few references you might otherwise miss, but I would agree that the games are worth playing at least once. I'd maybe start with IV- I've played just a little of I and II, but from what I remember hearing about the first three, none are really that special. I've always heard great things about IV, though; I just could never find a copy of it to play for myself.

I kinda agree with you. Its like the first half it builds up story wise but then boom end of the game. But overall FF15 was gorgeous!!!! Just like 13. Gorgeoys and it made me cry!

I played the demo of FFVIII first, but I got into Final Fantasy even more when I played FFX when I was 9. Loved it ever since and will always be my #1. My favs are in this order: X, X-2, Brave Exvius, VIII, IX, VI, XII. V

I have probably played the majority of the Final Fantasy games (even the not popular ones like Mystic Quest, etc.), and my favorite is still Final Fantasy IX. The story is extremely well-written, despite many people saying that Amarant was just thrown in there for no good reason. And when it is paired with the music featured in the game, everything is tied in together quite nicely. It is the one game where I still to this day wish it hadn't ended where it did, and in this case, is a good thing. As much as I will say that it deserves a sequel (and it does!), I am fine with always wishing for it and never getting it. Because it will just let me down, and never be as good as the original.

My favorite character is Vivi. Nowadays I prefer healers and white magic, but in my youth I was a black magic fan. Plus, Vivi's individual story is what keeps me crying every time I complete a playthrough of the game. His character design is reminiscent of the original black mage design, and that is so cool, in my opinion.

All in all, it is a great game, and I implore everyone to play it through once in their lives. If for some reason you do not like it, you have my permission to suggest a game to play as punishment, and I will play it.
