A Thought: Re-purposing Old RPs?

    So I was digging through some RPs because I wanna join in again on the RP fun, and I saw some old RPs that have had potential, and seemed to have a lot of fun and passion put in them. So this brings a question that came to mind.

    Have y'all ever thought about giving an old RP idea another shot? Or do you usually just accept it doesn't work and try something else? Thoughts?

    I asked about this a few months ago. I recall that there was, overall, an agreement that a Kingdom Hearts RP of some sort would be welcomed into the fold.

    Given the perpetual ups and downs of the forum activity over past year or two, I've been inclined to work towards something more of a persistent world project. Something that people could invest into when they had the time, using a multitude of smaller, interconnected RPs.

    There are quite a few old RP that I wouldn't mind giving another shot. There are even a few old successful RP that were finished but had a good plot. I'd like to redo to see how it could be different with older more experienced writers.

    Which ones do you have in mind?

    Ohhhhhhh that one actually looks pretty good! I wouldn't mind jumping back I. On something like that.


    As for me personally, a couple of which were some original ideas like that one Magical Girl rp that came up ((Can't remember if it was on here or on that other site we migrated too for a bit))

    Another one was this cool superhero idea were there was an outbreak of mutations and super powers, some of which were really cool, reminded me of a weird cross between static shock and the early 2000s x-men cartoon with a lot of the cast in high school.


    Some of the canon ideas were ones like that Digimon one Vox came up with ((Honestly that was a really plot I'd love to see done fully and finished)), as well as an old Mega Man rp I tried to get up off the ground, and of course, the good ol Kingdom Hearts RPs ((I mean what's a KH forum without a KH rp)), particullarly that one where we tried to make our own version of Kingdom hearts, starting off with a tournament I believe.

    I attempted a KH RP much in the same vein of creating our own version of the story. I like to think it had potential as far as a story went. Maybe it's worth another shot.

    @Hope you think you'd be up for another shot at that one?

    I think I started it last spring/summer? But it didn't really get the early momentum that it needed to get to its true send off.

    The introductory segment of it focused on a trio of teens (much like the SRK/TAV combos) living on Destiny Islands, learning about combat, magic, and the principles of the worlds and the heart from a master who happened upon their world several years before the start of the RP. The plan was to run the RP through a 'Night of Fate' sequence, where the DI door gets opened, Heartless invade, and the world gets swallowed, kicking off our rendition of the KH stories. It would also have been during that sequence that the characters summoned their Keyblades for the first time.

    Ah okay. Sounds pretty good. Would we still try to incoporate the same Disney worlds or choices of our own or nah?

    Of course probably this would be better discussion else where to not clog up this

    I was planning on utilizing the same original worlds; though I'm open to suggestions as far as those are concerned. I'm also interested in getting some different Disney worlds.

    I've just got confirmation that one of my previous cast members from it was up for rejoining.

    I remember I once proposed a similar idea some years back. I'm not quite sure what you had in mind, but what I was thinking was something akin to a few RPs (Let's call them A-D) running simultaneously. And at various points in each RP we would have it where characters from RP A would interact with characters from RP C and briefly influence the story in the opposing RP. I don't recall thinking there needed to be an overall theme between the RPs, only that they occurred in the same world at the same time and occasionally events would line up in all of them.

    If I recall the little response I got to that idea was probably more negative than positive.

    EDIT: I found the original thread. So I was wrong about the response people had, considering that only two people responded.

    What I had in mind was different from that. The framework of my idea is that we'd have a sandbox sort of world built up for our characters. There could be something in the vein of a 'hub thread' where everyone can mingle; sort of like having a main base for a clan. But, for those of us that had more time, we could venture out into other areas of our world, engaging in missions/errands/short quests and the like. We could even integrate events for the RP into the Arena as well. The idea, of course, would be that a single character wouldn't be able to exist in concurrent threads simultaneously; if your character is out on a quest, then they can't exactly be within the hub thread, or on a mission being run within a comparable time frame.

    What, any nobody tagged me for this variety of living world content? I'm hurt!

    I've been doing persistent world content for years. Most of the problems with that stem from IC schedule sync versus setting meta (Besides the usual RP problems of people having real lives interrupting)

    We could do both ideas... re-trying becomes re: Kingdom Hearts while also making it a more open world situation where there are multiple RP are running at the same time. Say we start our RP on Destiny island but have something similar to New Org running in a different RP where the baddies are the main characters and the two RP meet at some stage.

    EDIT: we could possibly even bring in "elements" of SON to one of the plots. @Moogle

    This sounds a lot simpler than what I thought up before. And the hub thread idea is quite flexible. Depending on how many members we have joining though would determine whether or not multiple characters per person is needed. Which isn't a bad thing by any means, just needed in a sense to make things feel more alive I suppose.

    @Moogle the way I see it, running something as a PW can help us get around the issues with peoples' fluctuating schedules and commitments IRL. In a more sandbox type of environment, progress shifts to being character-driven rather than plot-driven. So really, as far as I can tell, people wouldn't have to be bound to the availability of others. Those among us that are more capable of posting on a regular basis can keep to our own pace, while those that are a bit busier away from the site can move at their own pace. The only real caveat of it would, of course, be that the more active you are, the more of an edge you'll develop over the course of time. IE - Someone that posts several times a week will be able to grow their character more quickly than someone who only posts, say, once every two weeks. So those that are more active would, by way of how such an RP would be structured, have more powerful/efficient characters should things come to blows.
