Anyone else excited about this upcoming show? There's not much known about it yet, but I loved all four seasons of the original Heroes after just getting done binge-watching them, so despite the fact that there aren't many returning cast members (so we probably won't get a whole lot of closure as far as that goes), I'm optimistic and looking forward to seeing what happens next. The ending of season four gave a lot to work with, I think. Hopefully they'll get some decent writing. ;)

    Trailer because I can:

Weren't there five seasons? Or would the fifth be one of those unholy things nobody ever talks about?

^ There are four seasons, but the seasons are split into five "volumes"- each season is one volume, except season three, which is split into two volumes. Volumes two and three seem to be the ones that get the most shit, but personally I liked all of them. *shrugs*

Assuming those volumes are the ones I'm thinking of (Peter gets nerfed and loses his power, Nathan suddenly decides to lock up everybody who has powers even if they aren't dangerous, etc.) I can understand why they weren't liked.

I remember thinking the show was pretty cool when it started and I wanted to see it whenever I could. I even have the season 1 DVD (Which I've never actually gotten around to watching aside from the alternate Pilot episode).

^ Volume two is the one with amnesiac Peter in Ireland, Adam Monroe trying to release a virus to kill off most of humanity, Nathan's beard of sorrow, and Sylar road tripping through Mexico with the wonder twins, which was all tragically cut short by the writer's strike. Volume three is the one in which the Petrelli dad shows up to be an all powerful jerkface, and yet still does nothing that interesting, with the possible exception of stealing Peter's powers. Volume four is the one where Nathan is a traitorous dick who rounds up his own people. ;)

Ok, so volumes three and four are the ones I was talking about. From what I remember of volume two, personally I didn't really see what was wrong with it. Honestly it was the wonder twins that I didn't care for, but that was about it.

^ Well, seems like every volume except one gets some shit for sucking. I can't say I get it, myself. I thought the weakest volume was three, but even that, I still liked. Then again, possibly I had lower expectations, because I watched the show after reading about it, and wading through all the complaints about everything.

Their story moved too slowly, and then the season was cut short by the writer's strike, so they just seemed extra pointless. If the season had continued on like it was originally supposed to, I think they might have ended up more likable, but I agree, I didn't care for them much, either.

Edited a trailer into my first post, because why not.

And here I was thinking this was gonna be a reboot. But after seeing that trailer I suppose it might not be. That was Noah Bennet in it, right?

^ Yep, that's Noah Bennet. Apparently it's supposed to take place at some point after the last season of Heroes, but it's a "reboot" in the sense that it's calling back to the first season- by following a new group of specials finding out about their powers. Or so I've understood. >_< So far the only known returning characters are Noah and Hiro.

In that case perhaps I should watch all of it so I will get an understanding of what is going on.

^ Well, as a fan of the show, I wouldn't discourage anyone from watching it, but I suppose it'd depend on how much you really enjoyed what you'd already seen versus how much time you want to spend on it. But I think really, the only thing that would be that important to know would be that Claire exposed abilities on camera at the very end of the season four finale episode, and the show ended before we got to see what came of that, so I'm guessing the fallout will be dealt with in HR. Unless they somehow retcon it, which would be really annoying, but not entirely surprising.

On a happy note, for me anyhow: another confirmed returning actor! Jimmy Jean-Louis, AKA the Haitian, will be back. Source. I'm pleased; I always really liked this guy.

Also, apparently, no Peter, as, according to this article, Milo Ventimiglia says no one's approached him yet about returning: Source. Which, lame. I like the idea of focusing on new cast members, so I'm fine with not everyone coming back, but stick the dude in the background of a hospital scene or something; he's a paramedic- it wouldn't be that hard to work in a little cameo. Though if nothing else, I suppose there's always the online comic.

I thought the Haitian died. I suppose his character just randomly disappears so much I just assumed he died.

^ Nah, he's still around. But yeah, he just randomly pops up, then disappears for like half a season, then pops up again. Hell, he didn't even have an actual name until season four. That's kind of why I thought he was cool, though.

    To no one who cares,

Some images were released from a trailer that has yet to be shown to the public.

    Zachary Levi as Luke Collins

    Jack Coleman as HRG/Noah Bennet

    Kiki Sukezane as Miko Otomo

IGN talks about what's actually in the trailer here. It sounds very dark, X-Men: Days of Future Past-inspired. It also sounds like no one is safe, which makes for some good drama, but also makes my heart hurt a little. I have a feeling I'll be writing some of my own happily ever after headcanons, lol.

    Edit: Director Matt Shakman has this to say;
    Also Edited to Add:

Greg Grunberg, AKA Matt Parkman, returns. Source.

    Edited again to Add:

Sendhil Ramamurthy, AKA Mohinder Suresh, returns. Source.

Bumping thread because I'm a fangirl and eventually someone will stumble upon this thread and wanna post in it also. Or so I'm hoping. Heroes fans must exist somewhere. v_v

More casting news: Noah Gray-Cabey, AKA Micah Sanders, AKA Rebel, returns. Source.

It makes me happy to see so many old cast members returning, if only for guest arcs of indeterminate lengths. Micah got awesome behind the scenes in season three, then they showed him off one time and relegated him offscreen back to the world of the graphic novels, so I'll be interested to see what they do with his character here. It also seems to confirm that there will be quite a big time jump between the time season four of Heroes took place and Heroes Reborn, given that Micah was about 12 in story at that point, and the actor is 19 now and looks it.

Also, some YouTube dude caught a brief piece of a trailer, with shitty quality and a loudmouth news anchor talking over it, but it still shows some new things. I'm totally calling that the kid played by Robbie Kay at about 0:03 (or in this crappy image) is one of Nathan's two boys. I dunno, he has Petrelli written all over him, and Word of God has it that one of them was intended to gain an ability. And besides, there should be one of the family represented. Crappy video below...

    EDITED TO ADD:
Yet more casting news. Cristine Rose, AKA Angela Petrelli, returns. Source. :)

I haven't looked through the posts yet, but I'll eventually go through them. I've seen the first two seasons of Heroes, and I am struggling to finish the third, because it's just that bad! The inconsistencies are just plain awful, and the plot is such a let down! The first season was by far the best (which isn't saying much), but such a let down.

The first season made it seemed that these "Heroes" were truly connected with the occasional overlap in individual stories, and Peter's constant babbling about it. You would assume that they would all join forces for some common good, but that doesn't really happen. The writers fail to make that connection that they've started. Also unlike the title, these people aren't truly "Heroes". They're more the cause then the solution. I have failed to see any heroic good from these individuals that their kind hasn't started. The biggest issue was the inconsistencies and the plot. The basic plot revolved around "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World". Which was complete B.S. Future Hiro figures by saving Claire. Sylar wouldn't kill her and absorb her powers. Therefore, when he stabbed him. Sylar would've died, which would prevent the explosion, which in actuality Skylar wasn't the bomb to begin with. Therefore Hiro's logic was flawed! And New York should have still went BOOM! On top of that, future Claire was still alive. She was just in hiding! Seriously? That "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World" was complete none-sense. Next was the the inevitability battle begin Peter and Sylar, which didn't happen. It was to be some epic showdown, but diminished to some lame encounter. Then the biggest, most, anticipated moment. The bomb in New York that everyone is trying to prevent. Well almost everyone. (Useless story arc of Nicki Sanders and fam). Peter is going nuclear and the solution to the whole thing was, in the words of Hiro, "flying man". Seriously? All that suspense, all those plots of Peter controlling his power, and how everyone is saying this bomb is inevitable, and Future Hiro is working tirelessly to change the past, and the answer was "Flying Man". I guess Future Hiro had it wrong. "Convince Flying Man, Save the World!"

Season 2 was 10X worst then season 1. So much garage, I find it not even necessary to type it all. The biggest downfall was Peter's Swedish or whatever girlfriend was trapped in the future and never retrieved or thought about again for that matter. I suppose the writers scrapped that one. Then powers are being rehashed such as Flying and Regeneration. Kensei, Hiro's idol, is some white guy who is the season's main villain. Peter is somehow loyal to a fault to Kensei, even going against Hiro? The stories weren't really intertwining at all. Nicki and the fam, the two Mexicans and Skylar, and everyone else were all separate stories that didn't depend on the other. It was just random, and stupid. Not really following anything. The entire thing was just a mess and didn't have a focus.

Well, I loved all four seasons of Heroes, but I can admit that Season Three, particularly the first half, is rough going. I'm pretty sure this is the point where a lot of the fans during the original run gave up, so I can't blame you for having trouble getting through it. This show just gives me too many feels to turn my back on it. ^_^

As the series goes on, the morality is much more black and grey than black and white. I kind of liked that about the story, though. I liked the idea of just ordinary people trying to cope with this shit however they can. I'm not interested in watching Superman saving kittens from trees. I can see how that could be a turn off for some viewers, though.

I agree. Future!Hiro's involvement caused as many issues as it solved. There's a graphic novel (called "String Theory") that explains what's going on with him a bit more, but I haven't read it yet. It might make more sense of things. However, in the original timeline that we never see on the show, I do believe that Claire was killed at Homecoming. Future!Hiro time traveling and warning Peter about it subtly changed the timeline to the one we see in "Five Years Gone" where Claire survived and was in hiding, but somehow the bomb still went off. The timeline that we see unfold in the season finale is a third timeline with no bomb destroying New York, though based on the story released thus far about Heroes Reborn, Future!Hiro didn't manage to save anything for long, because
the cheerleader's now dead and the world is pretty much in the same shitty place it was in before he ever tried to change anything.
I'm pretty sure, though, that not many people would claim that these characters are geniuses, anyway. Peter especially holds the Idiot Ball and runs with it for pretty much the whole show, bless his heart. Even the character whose actual power is to understand things does stupid shit, and there's not much excuse for that.

Heroes had an apparently shitty budget, or perhaps back then the special effects weren't as easy to achieve, because they copped out on a lot of epic, power-using showdowns. The first season finale could have been way more awesome. But I liked the ending with Nathan (one of the only times I really did like Nathan), and I thought it was unexpected that the reason it was so crucial to save the cheerleader was so that she could convince Nathan to not be a colossal douche for a change.

Caitlin was Irish! The writer's strike fucked up season two majorly, and when they came back after, for some reason the writers decided to basically pretend none of it happened and move on, instead of finishing the arc the way it had originally been intended. The original plan (they talk a bit about it on the season two dvd) sounded like it could've been great. Missed opportunities.

Ha, I'm so glad for an excuse to gush about this damn show, I don't even care that you're crapping all over it. XD

Incidentally, a prequel webseries for Heroes Reborn is online, for anyone who cares. I haven't gotten around to watching it yet, but the series premiere is Thursday, so one of these days... I'm too lazy to link, but it's on YouTube, just search for Heroes Reborn: Dark Matters. It's supposed to fill in some of the blanks between the Heroes season 4 finale and HR's series premiere, which takes place 5 years later.

Yeah, I'm crapping all over it! :p. But seeing as Hero Reborn is premiering Thursday. I'm sure this won't be my last rant on the series.

i never watched Heroe's before i had a freind that did long time ago but i never got into it, Is this just new chars set in that universe? or is it like a sequel, i wonder because idk if i'll be able to follow if it's something i never watched.

  20. Kitty

^ It's kind of both. It takes place in the same universe five years after the end of the old series, but stars mostly brand new characters. One character from Heroes is a main character in Reborn (Noah Bennet), and a few other characters have guest spots ranging from cameos to three episode appearances. But the way I understand the story, it will mainly be focused on the newbies and their stories, so I think it will be easily accessible to new viewers. The series premiere is also two hours, so I'm guessing that they'll devote a little of that time to educate/remind viewers of pertinent info from the last show if necessary.

    Bring it on. XD
