I'm pretty sure the title is self-explanatory.

Why no way? Mind you, we're supposed to be a country with equal rights.

Essentially, all the gay discrimination that's going on now is off of the same basis that slavery and black discrimination was. Just afraid of something that was different.

Love is love. What would you say if you weren't allowed to marry?

^That's assuming he is from a country with equal rights.

I don't care what anyone does. I don't think gays should be banned from marriage, or anything else. It's none of my business what people do of their own consent in their own bedrooms, and I think it should stay that way. As long as they aren't hurting anyone, why should it matter if they get married? They're going to live together regardless. Marriage just allows them to gain extra rights under the law and get pensions and benefits and shit like that. So let them have it.

In my opinion, I don't think gays should be allowed to get married, but for those of you who will disagree with me, know that I'm saying this from a Christian standpoint.

Of course, love is something that should be freely given to and by all humans, but I believe that most people fail to see the difference between the love that involves kindness and compassion and the love that involves romance and sexuality, as love has so many meanings.

Humans were separated into males and females for a reason, and that reason was for a man and woman to marry and reproduce in order to raise a family and ultimately continue the human race. I have no doubt that a gay couple could raise adopted children just as well as a straight couple could raise their own children; but a gay couple still wouldn't be able to reproduce or raise a family in the same way a straight couple could, and therefore, would be going against the purpose of a (marital) relationship.

But why should people be obliged to this "purpose" in the first place--doesn't a gay person own the right to choose to be with someone of the same gender? I'll wholeheartedly agree that a gay person does own that right, since, as humans, we were given the gift of free will. But this is where a moral aspect comes into play: If that gay person does choose to be involved in a gay relationship, he/she is essentially choosing personal contentment and enjoyment over what was meant to be.

About the idea that gays being discriminated on the same level as black people in the past, i only half agree with it. There are actually people who have a moral/religious reason behind why they are against gay rights, in contrast to people who are/were against black people out of mere hatred or racism. Though, I do acknowledge that most people who are against gay rights are only so because they see gay people as freaks that hold nothing more than constant lust for individuals of their own gender, which I believe is even worse than (remember, IMO) gay relationships (not gay people) themselves.
    ---

Again, I'm placing my argument from a Christian perspective, so if you're not in anyway associated with Christianity, you're free to think or do whatever you want.

America, Land of the free, where every man is free to choose what they want to do! No gays though :)

    I support gay america!

  7. I do agree with your disagreement(weird huh) but still, in this America we live in, love is with anyone..or anything(if your into to that) but, I cannot stand the idea of gays with a wedding in their honor.
Also, as a Christian(thanks un Blev able) homosexuality is a sin. Not to be a prick, but, if your gay and a Christian... STOP IT NOW

I don't have a problem with anyone who's gay. I've known more than one. It's not for me, but that's not to say it's wrong. I don't agree that persecution is on the same level as slavery however. That's going a bit far. In fact, in some respects, they have more rights as gays than I have as a straight person, but we'll get to that later.

As far as marriage goes, I have to disagree with many of the things said here. Marriage is not about sex and reproduction. Survival of the species, etc. As an creature of emotions over instinct, this means quite a bit more. It's about finding someone who you love and want to spend the rest of your life with, and then doing just that. There are many people who are straight that get married and never have kids, because they don't want them. By your definition, these people shouldn't be allowed to get married either.

I say if they want to do it let them. Marriage can be carried out by a minister, but it is not an institution solely owned by the church. One can get married by the court. In fact in some countries, Germany for instance, couples are required to be married by a court. They can have a church wedding later if they wish (or any other wedding location for that matter) but the court wedding comes first. This is how my parents got married (overseas; my dad was in the military).

Now from a legal standpoint, gays have to be allowed marriage. Denying them this is unconstitutional. And yet, everyone makes the wrong argument. Freedom of expression is not the best line of defense when discussing the legality of gay marriage. Freedom of religion is. Allow me to explain. If a religion, such as many of the Christian denominations, does not agree with or recognize homosexuality, the government can not force them to marry a homosexual couple. It encroaches on their religious freedom, forcing them to endorse something they don't agree with. Note that "endorse" here does not have the same meaning as "accept" or "tolerate". They don't have the right to persecute gays, but they do have the right to refuse to perform marriage services for a marriage they deem to be in conflict with their religious beliefs.

However, by the same token, this means that if a religion does in fact accept homosexuality, which many religions, including certain Christian denominations, do, than that religion can not be denied the right to hold marriage services for a homosexual couple any more than the aforementioned religions can be forced to do so. This, in my opinion, is the indisputable argument in favor of gay marriage. The logic is legally and Constitutionally sound, not to mention common sense and in full recognition of everyone's rights on both sides.

Now, to a point I mentioned earlier. In some ways, gays have more rights than straights do. Why do I say this? A gay person can walk around in public and pretty much display their homosexuality with pride in any way they see fit. They can hold parades and rallies. In most cases, they can't even be stopped from making out in public because "they're expressing themselves, and denying their ability to do so is stepping on their right to be gay". You know what? If I was making out in public, I'd be told to get a room. And I'd say the same thing to any other couple, gay or straight. Some things should stay private. I don't want you into my private life, and I don't want an insight into yours either. I don't care what way you swing.

Same thing with the rallies and the parades. If I wanted to start a "Straight Pride" parade or rally, I'd be shut down immediately for prosecution. It'd be offensive to gays. If I were to object to a gay pride event, I'd be shouted at, possibly even arrested, for bigotry. It's not fair. Now I'm not saying that I want to hold a Straight Pride event, or that I would object to a Gay Pride event. I have no desire to do either. I don't need a rally, nor do I want one. All I'm saying is that if I wanted to, I should be able to, but I can't. Gays can have scholarships specifically for them to. All hell would break loose over the creation of an "All Straight Scholarship" because you'd be denying a person the right to apply for a scholarship because their gay. Why not? I'm denied the ability to apply for many scholarships because I'm straight.

    Just my two cents.

I feel no problem against gay people and I do know some and as I catholic im expected to despise them and be against them fully as for marriage I feel if two people love each other they should have the right to express that love in the form of marriage

For the Gay Pride parade things, not many gay people actually do it. Most of us just see it as a bunch of idiots basically contradicting what they say. Gay people bitch about equal rights a lot, and then going and having a parade is essentially taking two steps in the wrong direction.

And at the religious standpoint, I will make the same argument I always make -- Christianity has a pretty nasty history of prejudice. The bible was used as an excuse for slavery, for the holocaust, and now for gay discrimination (thats what I meant earlier, not that gay discrimination is on the same level as slavery. It will NEVER be that bad). I'm not saying that all Christianity is bad. In fact, it really does have good morals, its just that Christians take the book that wasn't even originally written by Christians to seriously. Though, it has been translated, and added to so many times to fit one's personal beliefs, the bible, in my opinion, has lost all credibility.

Also, as Al said, it's a constitutional right. Unfortunately, under our current president, the Patriot Acts pretty much prove his standpoint on the constitution. 10 bucks that he pulls the 'emergency powers' card to extend his term.

I am a Christain too, but I have to say, God wouldn't just let some of us gay unless He wanted some of us to go to Hell would He?

Look, God invented Love, and he made love in that kind of fashion as well as a normal fashion, then I don't care who is gay.

Besides, God never actually said Himself that, "No homosexuals allowed unless I want you to go to Hell".

I have many friends that are gay/bi

    I myself am bi

Homosexuality is a sin if your christian, Direct quote from teh bible " If a man were to lay with another man as he would lay with a women, he has done the detestable and must be stricken down."

I say life is too short live up to what other people say are the standards. Do what you want with your life, No person should criticize another for the choices one makes with his or her life.

I believe in gay rights. ( though it is not biblically correct. )

    Well, Riku...

As many people have already said, God created everything. This includes gay people. And yes, he did give us free will according to the bible, but doesn't that also mean that he shouldn't get mad at us for making a choice?

If you really want to get technical, man can not lay with man as he would with woman. Nor can woman lay down with woman as she would lay down with man. It doesn't work anatomically. And while I'm a Christian, I don't know the Bible cover to cover. Do you know who said it? Is it actually God, or is it said by another figure?

I think saying that the entire country is prejudiced would be saying a bit much. The issue is that so many people are homophobic, and in order to show how not gay they are to their buddies, they lash out at other gays. And I still don't think that this is a majority. But who notices those of us who really don't care? We're not doing anything worth noting. It's the homophobes who are attracting attention to themselves, and thus they are the ones who are seen constantly in the media, and just in everyday circumstance. And since everyone always sees them, they are automatically assumed to be the majority.
