Whose read the books and who is going to go see the movie.

I read most of them and then stoped for awhile... then started back up again and am on the 4th book.

So what did you people think of the books if you have read them?

same here. they didn't even get the one of the characters right *ahemGroverahem*, but i think it'll be a lil' interesting to see how it goes.

Read the first book and it failed to grasp my attention. The movie doesn't really look great either, so I don't have plans on seeing it in theaters.

and Grover isn't suppose to be black (sorry if it sounds racist). even the the illustrator drew him as an Irish looking guy in the profile book, probably (no idea what the title is, but i saw it at a library once).

Obviously, Grover was the director saying, "Look, I'm not racist!"

Is that really such a big deal though? As long as the actress can channel the character and be convincing in the role, does it matter if she should really be a blonde (or redhead, whichever she is)?

A question about the books, for those who have read them- are these children's books or are they adult friendly? I'd never heard of these before, but the premise sounds interesting.

Edit: I believe this movie is directed by Chris Columbus, who directed the first Harry Potter movie. So this will probably be similar, as far as the book-to-movie adaptation goes.

It's absolutely impossible for directors to pick characters that every fan will think is perfect for the appearence of the character. Too many people have too many different oppinions of books. I for one have read the first book but it was a very long time ago and I really dont remember the vivid details. I'll probably end up seeing it anyway because Faith is in love with the book series and she about died of a heart attack when she saw the previews for the movie so I'll probably get dragged along lol.

I have all the books (love em) and is going to see the movie, though I'm setting my expectations relatively low. So far the trailers make it barely look like the same series. I don't mind Grover being black (Diverse casts are "in" at the moment and a good majority of the characters in the book are white, so of course they had to change someone) but why did they have to choose a 23 year old brunette for Annabeth? Why is Medusa beautiful when her being horribly ugly is not only cannon to the books but cannon to the actual myths (not to mention making her beautiful completely screws up her backstory, since she was orginally beautiful but Athena turned her ugly)? Why is there a Hydra in the trailer when they didn't encounter one until the second book? Why do Percy and Annabeth look like they are about to kiss when they didn't do that until the fourth? Why does Percy show how insanely powerful he is when that was a huge plot point in the fourth? Why? Why!? WHY!?

Oi. I hope it surprises me.

Anyone seen the movie who's read the books? I just finished the first book and really liked it, and I was tempted to see the movie today, but I'm one of those who'll sit and nitpick everything that the movie does wrong to the point that it's hardly enjoyable. The previews to the movie look interesting, but I'd like a fan's opinion before I spend my money.

I just saw the movie yesterday. It was really good, but not related to the book at all. I mean They didn't even get to go to the Lotus Casino or face a hydra until the second book.

Percy, Annabeth, and Grover visited the Lotus Casino in the first book. They stayed 5 days and it almost made them miss the summer solstice deadline.

I've finished all five books now, and I've pretty much decided not to see the movie. From the comments I've seen, the movie changes a lot of stuff (which actually surprises me coming from Columbus, because I thought at the time that Harry Potter 1 was almost too faithful to the book). It already gets on my nerves that they got such old actors to play the kids (and cast a woman (as opposed to a girl) as Artemis, though she probably didn't get screen time in this anyway). And I heard they cut Ares and Kronos from the story. I can sort of understand it, because if they don't end up filming sequels, it'd be annoying for average folk to watch The Lightning Thief and have loose ends, but I don't like it.

Agreed. I could tell from The Lightning Thief that they'd end up a couple. Can't see how this would shock anyone.

Loved every one of them. ^_^ My favorite is The Titan's Curse.
