    No Love Without

    19 December 2004
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    —Blues—

    Oh Baby of mine,—
    What you've done to me,
    Broke my heart in two,
    Left me misery.

    Oh Baby of mine,—
    If you'd only see,
    That my love for you,
    Spans the whole wide world.

    Oh Baby of mine,—
    Can't you realize,
    That there's no one else,
    Without you life's blue.

    Oh Baby of mine,—
    There's nowhere to go,
    Just your road's inscribed,
    Deep inside my soul.

    Oh Baby of mine,—
    ¿Why must you be so?
    So much pride inside,
    Leaves me all alone.

    Chorus

    Ain't No Love Without,
    That woman of mine,
    She's so heartless though,
    A cold work of ice.

    ¿Can't you hear my song,
    As it cries for you?
    Come into my life,
    Chase these Blues away.

    Interior a Garden Grows

    Santo Domingo,
    18 July 2005

Heart is a garden tended every day,
With greatest care for in it grows our soul,
A flower that can weather many storms,

Though all its petals silken are fragile,
Will wilt and shrivel with disdain succumb,
To barren emptiness a desert go,
Withal fair owner forget water´s use,

But it is Eden primal and profuse,
So vast contained its wondrous possible,
So great acceptance of distinct amends,
    So wide harmonious enchantments here,

So many joys can bloom in this small place,
If there be but a little toil of love.

    Gordian the Binding

    1 August 2005
    Santo Domingo

A knot seemed so secure upon its twists,
Unraveled at the slightest of all tugs,
    Somewhat clear atmosphere affecting stars,
'Til fading in-and-out nothing's the same,

How dear deception when all's happiness,—
With revelation turns to grays and clouds,
    Precipitating all our anxious love,
That fell upon brown muddied earth once dreams,

Now we devolve upon wild nature hope,—
That Spring might bring her blooming perfumed ways,
Delighting heart to chance again bright songs,
Of rainbow melodies after harsh rains.

    Diluvian Memories

    2 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

Lethe pours from Her silver chalice,
Daydreams of purple wines and green days,
Yet restless we dip into cold time,
    Implacable strong flow we resist,—
Though mortal fated our fight may be,

Yet we have struggled from our first breath,
To that end that will become our death,—
¿How can we still stand and cede to life,
Belief that we can't change one small hair,—
But must abide whim's laughter cruelly?

Storm's floods break through every wall we built,
A wreckage hopeless in its vastness,
Now possesses all our gardens fair,
Once joys for heart to dwell in private,
Turned brambles to twisted storm's fury,—

    Awaiting only tender caring,
Another pair of calloused hands firm,
    To start a rock-by-rock rebuilding,
    Of irreplaceable treasures dear,—
That nothing or no one can bring back.

    her illusion

    3 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

Never a time for prayer had there been,
Or fear of destiny or mortal ends,
Fay's bliss encompassed action and firm stead,
Reflection but an image on a blade,
A gleaming second flashing before death,

In bloody rancor issued from his thrusts,
No,—never did he fear until one day,
He glimpsed her face a passing summer cloud,
Then divination came to steal his heart,
That never anxious had in battle fought,

Now trembled when he dared to speak her name,
As surely message untamed fates now gave,
That pierced his soul must now forfeit man's life,
For love, soft subtle, had now sheathed his sword,
    Now,—he, unsettled searches hidden signs.

    Papagayo Love

    4 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

In dense green jungle of illusions love,
Entwined absorbing all as serpent lust,
Flared forth its red on papagayo wings,
    Bursting beneath dense tropic canopy,

There barefoot we embraced in joy sublime,
Entranced in ecstasy as rain soft fell,
    Susurrating melody on leaf fronds,—
Timeless our kisses made of life pink bliss,

    Permanent this rainbow of sapote,
'Til that day we came to realize clear,
That our nakedness a sin discerned was,—
Eden then abandoned in our wild search,

For Atlantis promised in our mind's eye,
An illusion made of dreams incarnate,
Fond delusion of fair sounding promise,
False presumption that little man knew best,—

Though heart knew there would be no retreating,
To that primal innocence once our home,—
Now as strangers wander we on lost paths,
Searching for a hearth without walled constraint.

    Quietly Thou Left

    4 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

Thy arms were place so safe,—
    Now I can't even feel,
    That breath faded with sighs,
    When you walked cold away,—

    Release me from Thy spell,—
    Those bindings magical,
Still hold me fixed in place,
    Though Thou art far away,—

Believe me when I tell Thee Love,—
Thou will forever be for me,
The one that came and stole my heart,—
    And left me misery.

    Acrostic (¿-L-O-V-E-?)

    5 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

I dreamt that Mars and Venus switched their place,
That sun became occluded moon black dark,
Somehow Thy name became a jumble too,
    A mystery ineffable,—wordless,

Broad seas all barren showed their yellow sands,
    Cerulean abandoned oceans deep,
Then even drained wide skies of color's touch,—
Until I thought of Thy enchanted ways,

My soul was spiraling down precipice,—
Yet anchored in the thought that Thou still lived,—
Unlocked foul madness and released red heart,
Restored high heavens to nature's wise course,

Allowed soul's life to stabilize once more,
Permitted breath to flow in freedom's flight,—
For this could happen with some magic verse,—
    An ancient incantation,—whispered,—l-o-v-e.

    I Don't Know

    5 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    I don't know anymore,
Where once came those sweet lips,
    That kissed with passion's certainty,
    Inspiring ecstasies divine,—

I don't know where they are,
    Those rose buds perfumed sweet,
    Angelic touching anisette,
    Enthralling essence patchouli,—

I don't know where to find,
    A touch so silken deft,
That once caressed me as a babe,
    Delighting every sense possessed,—

    I don't know anymore,
    So I'll let destiny,
Determine who will come my way,—
    And from that union,—form Eden.

    Shallow Water Sun

    6 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    Sunshine reflects and ripples,
Across pool's bottom as I swim,
    Gold tessellations shimmer,
To crawl's steady four beat rhythm,—

    I know the mathematics,—
    Incidence and interference,—
And now in these warm waters,
I know the feeling of it too,—

    Yellow reflections,—stray thoughts,
    Wavering and then wandering,—
    About life's many strange dreams,—
Illusions of true love and faith,—

    Delusions when we close eyes,
Yet haunt us in our waking day,—
    Realizing we know naught,
But light we bounce inside our heads,—

Yet even with what truth says,
    And seeing all deception's ways,—
Heart still dreams of Eden's fay,—
A home that Thou will bless and stay.

    Upon Fair Ocean

    6 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

Mithros in full day sets our course in light,
So we set voyage to far turquoise sea,
Full deployed our sails fill up with hope's joy,
On a journey that promises to heal,—

Yet as we vanish over horizon,
Our hearts warn us that soon we must return,
For Neptune jealous will restore our health,
But never long accept our visit's stay,—

To our mortal realms we must then devolve,
With soul's surety in those new found gifts,
Will divulge new ways to find visions,
    Unimaginable fair illusions,—

From which to craft new ways of living life,—
From which to graft new limbs for growing broad,—
From which to waft new directions to steer,—
From which to haft new oars to row our course.

    Aphrodite's Veil

    6 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

She made herself into what she became,
From past to future fashioned she her life,
Sculpted from sad wishes and deep desires,

Form and figure to pattern's idea,
Id demanded this perfection from self,
Without words it pushed what she should become,

    A reflection that determined being,
In a shape only a goddess could wear,
While mortal feelings strayed fearing lost love,—

¿Where is that magic kiss will release her,—
From thralldom's binding in each small despair?
Only a touch with faith embedded deep,

Can ever soothe that hunger for detail,
Can ever calm that iron will so fierce,
Can ever tame a heart so passionate.

    White Snows of Yesteryear

    7 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

    That time of unanticipated joys,
    Spontaneous arrival like Spring rains,
No planning for bright fay that then evolved,
New rituals that sprang like blooms in grass,

A vision full of yellow sunlit songs,
With harmonies that whispered of sea shore,
Or rafting down a rushing river cold,
With sun's warmth on sand bank to soothe our soul,

And feel that reverie and bouncy play,
When I looked at night sky with all its stars,
And saw them whirling in a whorl of clouds,—
As if there were no moon to hold them tight,

I still have dreams of Eden at my age,—
A hazy vision of motions now gone,
Emotions sing moments that touched red heart,—
And feel Thee dancing in my arms again.

    A Crocus in Iceberg

    7 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

¿Where is that sweet induction lets us go,
Beyond ourselves into what others know,
Supplants our fears with Zephyrs that soft blow,
Believes those images that words sure sow?

Tell me dark stranger that it can be so,
That all soul's doubts can before Thy trust bow,
While touch removes all that of life I know,
For every day time bitter herbs did snow,

Until a blanket white covered all soul,
Though even Winter must cede all it owns,
When Spring with sun cracks all its icy frowns,
Delivers us to green and all its crowns.

    Teetering Brinksmanship

    7 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

¿What purchase can we find to move red heart,—
Is there a lever that will force endure,—
    Without a see-saw back-and-forth in time,—
A motion oscillating poor red heart?

    O Love,—irresistibly dragging soul,—
Nature's own destiny for our crazed race,
Leaves us with poor arithmetic to add,
Or calculate fair sum of pleasures gone,—

Immeasurable God stands still and waits,
Not wanting to prejudice our attempts,
To balance out the odds of Love's dire game,—
We struggle deftly to reconcile lust,—

With faith and hope and charity divine,—
    O Love,—Thou art a wayward force indeed,
That makes us jump upwards with mirth and glee,—
    Without expecting down's descending fears.

    Orange Blossom

    1 August 2005
    Santo Domingo

¿If not Thee, …—Then what? …—A sea of faces, …
Tumultuous as seas flowing with waves,—…
    Endlessly, …—Repetitions similar,—…
Without finding that one sunlight garden,

Where all life's mazes promised once to lead,
A place of pixilated calm and love,
Enchantment endless blooming with pink joy,—
A walled enclosure that protects red heart,—

Where cordial lives love with patient hands,—
Sweet stream of jasmine soothing all soul's woes,
    Incandescent orange tang of kisses,—
That lure me like no other sure to Thee.

    Faded the Spell

    8 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

Such sorcery she wove around red heart,
Such spells of binding force she cast on me,
Such mystery she wore around her form,
Such airs of something different she bore,—

But always in that majesty was cold,
An ice domain of calculating thoughts,
    A plan imperious and dominant,
That took none else into account for cause,—

How sad clear moment when we see our fate,
Constrained to fade and let our will abate,
Removed emotion leaves us naught but hate,—
Of everything that was our love of late.

    Life Tears at All Romance

    8 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

Beyond despair itself lives golden dream,
    Immeasurable in contentment's bliss,
Emerald meadows tinged with clear dew drops,
Kissed upon day's morning's face by night clouds,

There happy we could dwell in Eden fair,
Until dark writhing forces would tempt us,
With power or illusions for frail mind,
    Deluded wandering outside our walls,

Become enmeshed in all life's tangled webs,
To never more again set foot on earth,
Were once naked we naively wandered,
For our desires and aspirations need,

Us to be clothed and hidden from ourselves,
To dwell in separation from our hearts,
Mistrusting those that once filled up our souls,—
Forgetting trust bound us with sacred love.

If Thou would kiss me all time soon would stop,—
I could not contemplate upon world's care,
If Thy sweet lips in touch enjoined with mine,—

If Thou would whisper caring words softly,—
I could not listen to nightingale's song,
If Thy soft breath fell gently on my ears,—

If Thou would touch me with silken caress,—
I could not feel hot sun warming my skin,
If Thy smooth fingers wandered through my hair,—

If Thou would hold me in heaven's embrace,—
I could not sense wide sky's bright blue expanse,
If Thou would cup me in Thy tenderness,—

O woman of my deepest dream's desire,—
¿Why can't Thou realize that Love blinds me,—
And I a pauper at Thy feet do kneel?

There's Hope Yet in a Moonbeam

    20 August 2005
    Corpus Christi, Texas

It's past love's tears my dear,
It's past wan longing for Thy kiss,—
    It's past,—Thy sweet caress,
It's past,—Warm soft whispers on ear,—

    And when I seek present,
    A cavity of blackness swells,—
    And ravages my heart,
A void of things I should have said,—

It's past love's hopes my dear,
It's past low singing for Thy kiss,—
    It's past,—Thy sweet embrace,
    It's past,—Warm tenderness nuzzling,—

    And when I seek future,
A veil of moonshine covers heart,—
    And possibilities,
A way to slowly knit our souls.
