  2. Ventus

    Ventus Kickass Keyblader!

The story plays a big part for me.

Yeah, the story and the overall feel of it, the different game mechanics etc...

For instance, FFVII's Materia sytsem I could sit and work out for hours trying to get the best combinations for different situations. But Lost Oddyeseys (sp?) Ring System just didn't feel right to me.

  4. VentusSearcher

VentusSearcher Steam is the only way....

Heeres what Iike in a rpg.

I like the ff crisis core gameplay, fantastic graphics and a fantastic story. I would have liked FFXIII if it had a crisis core gameplay......

  5. dualblade

    dualblade Break!

If its good overall,I will probably like it.Story and gameplay are big parts though. If those two are good, everything else seems to come together.

    draco009 Dungeon Master

Hmmmm..... What i like about rpgs has already been said: Gameplay, and Story.
I like certain RPGs more when there storyline is Complex and full of fantasy....

The Heartless King The King of Shadows

I'm with Draco here. The thing i love most about an RPG is a great story and fun gameplay.

and who doesn't like a complex story? XD

Characters and story for me. Gameplay is only kind of important to me- I'll keep playing a game with an annoying battle/level up system *coughFFVIIIcough* if I like the characters and get sucked into the story. Doesn't even have to be a great story, just one that compels me to see it through to the end.

  10. Blade

Blade Heroes Have One or Two

Repetition. I don't really like change and it keeps the gameplay the same throughout the whole game. Yeah, I know it gets boring sometimes, but it gives me time to perfect some strategy planning or techniques. Some of those fighting games have impossibly long command movements, so it gets irritating when you have to learn something new. The only exception is Mario.

  11. Ventus

    Ventus Kickass Keyblader!

I started playing Star Ocean and turned it off in 3 minutes of play. I absolutely hated it. It has to hook me in and the gameplay has to be slick.

    Zero ♫♪♫Dear☺God♫♪♫

Story and Gameplay, the way the battle system is.

  13. GrandShadow

    GrandShadow I accept your challange.

gameplay has to be top priority. otherwise i won't play. an example being FFVII, the only reson i forced myself through that was because of it's epic story and all the hype about it.

story mostly takes a backseat for me. a good example here is the pokemon games. the storyline is always stupid but the gameplay is great enough i won't care.

@Above: Agreed, I love the pokemon battle style and the pokemon but the story sucks balls.

I always think of how long the game will last me. I usually keep away from games that are only good for playing through the story once. One of my personal favorites is Oblivion for the computer. It let's you adventure around and do pretty much anything you want and you can download mods from websites.

  16. Master Sora

    Master Sora Kingdom Key

The most of the things I like in a RPG is gameplay elements, the style, and how interesting the story might be.

Unlike many video games, RPG's have a story and in RPG games you actually get to play the main character and sometimes influence the decisions and destinys of the main character.

The story in RPGs are definately most important.

Really? You didn't care for Star Ocean?
Which one did you try? o.o

As many others have noted, the story and gameplay is my main area of concern. In addition, the characters have to be solid as well. That was one thing I didn't care for in Final Fantasy XII. Neither a solid story or characters, imo.
Even if the story is cliche, though, I'll still give it a chance.
    Prime example: Persona 3.
Absolutely loved it, even though it focuses on the typical idea of saving the world from destruction.
    Nocturne, however, was cool how it was based on "reviving" the world after it had already been destroyed. Very dark, and very ineresting. o.o;

I'd say that story is a great part in it, because you really can't find stories as indepth as an rpg.
(Puzzle games like hotel dusk ((awesomeness)) don't count)
    Another reason is the gameplay.
Honestly, it depends on which version I play at what time.
The first is back and forth battle, for when I want something slow paced. (like pokemon or Final fantasy X )
The second is action rpg when I'm wanting something a little more fast. (like Tales of symphonia)
I'd say that justifies my reason well enough.

(Oh yeah, and because I suck at any type of shooter game. Lol)

For me, I'm a sucker for the storyline. Gameplay is important but not as important for me I think, you can get used to virtually any gameplay but not every storyline is great. For me, a lot of my gaming has to do with just getting out of the stress of reality for a while and getting wrapped up in someone else's story, so if the storys not good than it just doesn't do that for me, savvy? Characters also have a lot to do with it as seeing as they have a lot to do with how thr story unfolds and works out. If characters are lame, story usually has no.depth either.

Also really enjoy long games which a lot of rpg's are really long. If the games to short you don't always get a sense of the real storyline and characters.
