Maybe some of you have used a certain way as to which character will participate in battle. Maybe some of you use the white mage/black mage/warrior basic used on the battlefield. Maybe some of you have use a character who's abilities are invaluable to e useful later on. This is where all of you talk about which three characters you have used in your party to fight in any final fantasy games.

In the games that have three party members, I use two warrior types- usually one of the quicker, Tidus/Cloud/Squall/Vaan variety, and another of the slower, but stronger Auron variety, as well as a white mage, who I teach black magic to (if I can) and raise strength stats (again, if I can) so that they have something else to do if no one needs healing.

In the games that have four party members, I usually use three warrior types, and keep the one white mage, unless I know there will be a particular use for another job class.

Really, this thread is too general. It'd be easier to discuss in each game section which characters I used in that game and why.

It depends on the game. In the games before XIII I usually have the main character (Cloud, Squall, Tidus, etc), a healer, and then somebody else who is strong. Party differs between games and at what point in the storyline. At the end, my team will be something like this.

VII - Cloud, Red XIII, Vincent. With the Materia, anybody could be the healer.
VIII - Squall, Rinoa, Irvine. I gave Squall Revive and Rinoa Restore.
X - Tidus, Yuna, Auron. While I haven't gotten anybody to complete the Sphere Grid, thanks to Yuna's Nirvana she's statistically my best character. And then Tidus and Auron are right below her.
XII - Vaan, Balthier, Ashe. Vaan has the Zodiac Spear, Balthier has Fomalhaut, and Ashe has greatswords (Not the Tournesol yet. I think she has either Ragnarok or Excalibur). Since Ashe has more MP than Vaan or Balthier, she does the healing.
XIII - I believe I have Lightning, Vanille, and Fang. Not sure. But the wonders with this game's battle system is how you can change your battle plan in mid combat. Usually I try to start with a Com/Rav/Rav Paradigm, then change depending on the situation.

    dualblade Break!

It depends on the game, though as I read what i put Im sure I will see a pattern.

I- Warrior,Theif,White Mage,Black/Red Mage. The reaxson for the last one is that magic attacks arent as useful close to the end as physical attacks.Plus more healing.

IV- Cecil.Rydia.Edge,Kain.Well,the ones I keep once you can change them in the GBA port. There are reasons I love Rydia and Edge, and one of them is that there are some of my best characters when I play.Cecil is cause he has to be.Kain is badass. The last one can be anyone, but is usually Rosa or Porom.

V- As long as I have one powerful physical and a healer,Im good.

VII- Cloud,Yuffie,Vincent (Or Cid).Cloud for the obvious reason, though I would keep him anyways because he is powerful.Yuffie cause I like her,she hits long, and she gets a good level since I do the Wutai stuff.Vincent for long range, his Limit Breaks, and being pretty tough.Cid cause he is awesome.Though I usually use him to replace Yuffie or Vincent when I cant use them.

VIII- Squall,Selphie,Rinoa. Squall is like Cloud, with the same reasons.Plus his Limit Break is overkill.Selphie has and overkill Limit Break as well, and is good for magic and damage besides.Rinoa is great for magic, especially her overkill Limit Break if you use give her the right magic.Though really I only need Squal and Selphie, and she is only there in case of healing.

IX- Zidane,Dagger,Vivi,Eiko.Zidane for obvious reasons, though damage is put out for speed...though he does great damage.Vivi is for his magic, which does great damage, more so in Trance.Eiko for her healing magic, and Dagger as a back up healer and summons.

X- Tidus,Rikku,Yuna.Due to the sphere grid,Tidus quickly becomes a damage dealer for me.Yuna is a great healer, summons save me if I get into a tough spot, and she can do some damage if i put her into either Tidus or Lulu's path.Rikku is great for stealing and does some good damage for me.

XII- Vaan,Ashe,Basch. It actually doesnt matter for me,I just use them.Though Ashe is fun to have as the leader.Penelo is also a good choice, but in the end the differences are small.Helps that I use mostly Shirt ranged weapons,Telekinises, and magic that isnt hampered by my weapon choices.

XIII- Lightning,Fang,Vanille/Hope. It depends where i am.When I can choose,I use Vanille instead of Hope, but will use Hope chapter XII to the final boss until,in the end game, everyone has there initial jobs filled. Then I use Vanille. Also,Lightning makes for a great Ninja against physical attacks.

Eh, for each individual game I used:

V: You don't get to choose your characters, but I used dancers and ninjas in my party most of the time. One of the dancers could usually use white magic as well.
VI: I don't think I'd ever really settled on a permanent party in this game, because so many of the characters were useful. Celes was almost always in my party, and the other three slots were filled alternatingly with Terra, Edgar, Sabin, and Relm, and occasionally Shadow and Cyan. Celes, Terra, or Relm would heal.
VII: Cloud, Aerith (post disc 1: Yuffie), and Cid. Aerith and Yuffie were the healers.
VIII: Squall, Rinoa, Zell (sometimes Quistis). Rinoa had Restore, Zell/Quistis had Revive.
IX: Zidane, Eiko, Steiner, Amarant (sometimes Freya). Eiko is the white mage/summoner.
X: Tidus, Yuna, Auron (sometimes Rikku). Yuna healed.
X-2: Obviously Yuna, Rikku, Paine, but with two dark knights (sometimes warriors) and one alchemist. This is the best combo, in my opinion. Yuna was usually the alchemist.
XII: Ashe (party leader), Vaan, Basch (sometimes Balthier). All three would heal as needed, but since Ashe was usually in my control, she did it most often.

VII: For this game, Cloud (Sadly) would be my number one hitter as a soldier. After that comes in Cait Sith as my main defensive player or healer. Otherwise, I would replace him with Tifa so that I can make use of her limit break and her as the healer. Vincent or Cid would be my follow up as a third party member as the support class.

VIII: Squall (Unfortunately) with Rinoa as my strongest magic user in all aspects. Irvine or Zell would be my third party member to help fill in the holes where damage is lacking. Still, with Sorceress Edea, I would be very fortunate since I can use her as my strongest black mage regardless that I don't have her for long.

X: Yuna would be thrown in there for my summonings for easier battles. Auron would then be used to be the heavy hitter and the destroyer of protection. Tidus is always a main but if I don't want to use him, Rikku or Lulu would take his place to take the advantage of elemental weaknesses.

XII: really don't care because all six of them are my main. Always seperate them into three party: Vaan, Basch and Penelo and Ashe, Fran and Balthier.
