    Hey guys first off, I'm sure many readers and fellow writers will be reading this. January 2011 Short Story Competition is up and ready to go, you can submit your stories to my email, found on the Short Story competition thread. The theme is reflection.

    Next as some of you may already know, I have a RP up with the same title. This is basically the same, and that RP, mine too anyways. There will be some different plot differences, and the story version is strictly all mine, nobody else control their own character.

    Finally, and most important. I want to hear your comments. I want feedback, post it on here, VM me, PM me, heck email me for goodness sakes. I want feedback and not just "Hey this is a great story, I want to read more!" Everybody makes mistakes, so there's got to be something you can criticize on.

    Ok I know I said finally, but one more detail. I noticed many new members one particular, no names, asking about fanfics. This is a fanfic, I've spent a lot of time with research on it(not that I don't on even completely original stories neither) I put time and effort into it as well thought about what sort of audience this is meant for. Granted it's based off a Disney movie, the original/first one is a family film, my story fanfic/sequel sort of thing is set to aim towards the teenage audience/ college audience which is most of the members on the forums, though I have incorporated some Disney magic in it too.

    Now then some smaller details. I'm a band geek, a music nerd, and a yeah music is my life. I may periodically post a song with every chapter or so. Yes that's why you see the youtube link above the image. You may periodically also find a picture posted with the chapter too(so not in the text, probably just an image going with the chapter title or whatever.

    Ok that's all, time to get started :)

    Prime Merlinian:
    FanFic by Destiny,
    based off Disney's "Sorcerer's Apprentice"

    Prologue
    [IMG]
    “Daddy can you tell me the story again, pleeeeeeeease!” A little girl begged her father with her large brown eyes as he got up out of his chair to leave laughing some.

    “No sweetie, you got to get some sleep.” Her father, a tall man, dark brown hair and eyes, he had a short beard. The little girl shook her head and quickly got up and ran towards the man grabbing his hands and stopping trying to hold him back. Her father swung her up into his arms laughing, the little girl giggling.

    “One more time I guess will be fine.” He told her carrying her back over to her bed and tucking her under the covers and her 5 year old face lit up.

    “Long ago, there was a very smart boy impressing his friends in many ways nobody knew how he did it. The boy one day, chasing a letter from his good friend, led him into a shop, a magic shop. In the shop he met a strange man. The man looked at the boy and was surprised to see him and gave him a magical dragon ring. The man was a sorcerer and he promised the boy that one day he, too, would become a powerful sorcerer. Many, many years later as the boy became a young man he became an apprentice of the powerful sorcerer so that he may defeat an evil witch named Morgana.”The man stated as the little girl interrupted.

    “Did he beat her? Did he, did he?” The little girl asked.

    “Merlyn, you’ve heard this story hundreds of times.” The little girl looked towards the door to see her mother standing there. The little girl’s father laughing as the father got up.

    “Let her hear the rest of the story if she wants to.” Her father stated kissing her mother.

    “Ewww, Daddy!” She exclaimed making a disgusted face from the kiss her parents only laughing.

    “You know this story is as much a love story too, Merlyn.” Her father stated. The little girl smiled but then shook her head.

    “It’s still gross!” She stated crossing her arms and shaking her head her brown hair flying everywhere.

    “Well do you want to hear the rest of the story?”Her father asked. She opened one eye looking at him and smiled nodding. Her father sat back down in the chair her mother next to her on the bed. “Anyhow, the apprentice and his master trained hard so they could face Morgana. At the same an evil sorcerer was trying to bring Morgana back to life from an evil doll trapped by the apprentice’s master. To let Morgana free though, he need more power, he needed the apprentice’s power. To do that, he kidnapped the apprentice’s good childhood friend. It was a trick; the evil sorcerer was able to steal the magical dragon ring which gave the apprentice, his powers. Using it he released Morgana. The apprentice’s master was the only last hope. He went to the park in town where Morgana was going to be let free. The evil sorcerer and the good sorcerer fought, but the good sorcerer, the apprentice’s master, wouldn’t be able to stop Morgana from taking over the world. The apprentice though was very smart and with his good friend’s help was able to stop Morgana from taking over the world, she was still around though. It left the apprentice, powerless having to fight her. With the strength of love and his care of his good friend and his master, he was able to awaken a sleeping power inside him that other sorcerer’s need a special charm to awaken and use their power. The apprentice became a full fledge sorcerer and defeated Morgana. Upon defeating her though, the apprentice’s master died completing his quest given to him by his master. The apprentice couldn’t take it though and using his power he brought his master back to life. The apprentice stayed close to his master and his master’s own good friend while the apprentice and his good friend fell in love.” Her father finished the story. The little girl squealed and giggled.

    “Did they kiss?” The little girl asked. Her parents laughed.

    “I thought you said kissing was gross.” Her father told her.

    “But in that story, it be romantic.” The little girl stated her parents laughing some more getting up and leaving her room. Her father turned out the light before hearing a sigh from his daughter. “Daddy? Are you a sorcerer?” The little girl asked. Her father smiled and walked back in.

    “Only if you want me to be.” He said kissing her forehead. “Good night, Merlyn.” Her father stated stepping out of her room and closing the door. He walked towards his room his wife getting ready to watch a movie.

    “David. I don’t think you should be telling her the stories. After the incident in Central Park, I think you should listen to Balthazar and quit telling her the stories and quit encouraging her possible own magic development.” His wife told him.

    “Becky, she’s 5, she doesn’t have any powers. Anyways, Balthazar and Veronica are going out and they asked me to do some stuff in the shop for them.” David told her. Becky sighed and smiled. David kissed her before grabbing his rain coat and stepping out of their apartment and walking down the hall towards the elevator.

    David pushed open the door stepping out into the cold, rainy New York City night. Slowly he walked towards his car and got in pulling out of its spot. He drove through the night as the rain fell down. His radio wasn’t on and the only sound he heard was his windshield wipers. He turned and looked at the shop on his left, Arcana Cabana.

    David took off his coat and hung it on a coat rack at the door and looked around the shop the walls stacked high with books, many books. In the center were many display cases containing various items. In the back left corner was the checkout desk with an old fashion cash register. In a display cases was a sorcerer hat with two stars and a moon. An old fashion black hat sat on the counter. Throughout the shop were various of “antiques” to the average person, to David, his wife, Becky, and two other people, each item had a magical story behind it. They did because only affecting the magic hearted mind and soul, it affected only them. David looked towards stairs on the right side of the shop leading up to a platform with more items for sale. There was also a door leading to stair case leading up to an apartment to the other two shop owners, besides him, also to David one of them is very important.

    The other one really taught David everything he knows and made him, who he is, not some other old guy dead for a 1000 some years.

    “David.” David looked towards the stairs to see a woman. She was wearing a beautiful red gown and appeared in her 30’s maybe 40’s thought in truth she was somewhere in her 1000’s. She had long flowing brown hair and brown eyes.

    David smiled at her and waved but stopped seeing the frown on her face and a look of guilt. David swallowed hard.

    “How mad?” He asked, his voice a little nervous his face showing guilt.

    “A lot.” A male voice answered and an older man appearing in his 40’s maybe 50’s appear behind the woman. He had medium long hair going the length of his chin but parted in the center, he also had a beard. He was wearing long sleeve white shirt a grey vest over it and grey pants and pointed black shoes. In his hand was his signature, old, rawhide, black coat. He was also holding a black hat if worn would cover his forehead and looking down slightly would hide his blue-grey eyes.

    David looked and gripped railing at the bottom of the step with his two hands; one hand wearing a platinum wedding ring the other a strange dragon ring with a green stone in it. The man at the top of the stairs let out a sigh.

    “I’m sorry, Veronica, Balthazar. But she’s 5. Every kid her age dreams of being a princess, a superhero, wizards, what’s so different with her want to be a sorceress?” David asked. The woman, Veronica, looked over at the man, Balthazar, who rubbed his forehead with his two fingers.

    “What’s different is that she, even being 5, may be a sorceress, could have magic powers. Merlin told me that I cannot allow your kids, or their kids, or even their kids know magic exists.” Balthazar stated.

    “So they won’t find out when their godfather is non aging and they’re grandfather, great grandfather, whatever grows a beard and old but won’t die.” David asked.

    “David…” Veronica started.

    “I see your point. Just, no more stories. And by the way I’m not strange.” Balthazar stated referring back to the story David told causing David to laugh some. “We’ll be back after our dinner date, until then we need you to organize a few books Veronica found.” Balthazar stated. David nodded and waved to them while they left the shop.

    ~~~
    David stood behind the counter back turned against the shop. On his left were a pile of books his right a notebook he scribbled down into. He grabbed a new book and quickly flipped through it and scribbled down something else and set it on a pile to his far right. He heard a bell signaling somebody was entering the shop. He looked at the time to see it’s been 2 hours since Balthazar and Veronica left. He continued working expecting it to be them. He stopped though when he realized something, the energy he was sensing wasn’t Balthazar or Veronica, not even of his wife or daughter. It was a dark, evil energy.
    Quickly David turned around to see a person grab the black hat sitting on the counter and move to in front of David with a grin.
    “Hello David.” The person, a male greeted him. The person was a little short and heavy. Once wearing his hat, he had dark brown almost like black eyes. He also had a circle sort of beard around his mouth.
    “Horvath!” David exclaimed. Horvath smiled at David. Real quickly before David could react Horvath’s cane began to glow and David collapsed to the floor.
    ~~~

    “I can’t believe you did that.” Veronica and Balthazar returned back to the store laughing.

    “And you thought I was a complete stickler when it came to magic.” Balthazar laughed. Upon entering the store though they both became quiet.

    “David!” Veronica became worried and quickly looked around the store and running to the counter as a gasp escaped her lips. The black hat was gone. It was a sign to them that a great evil being was still out there and that they needed to defeat. Balthazar walked up behind his wife and looked down at the ground and knelt down picking up a small little dragon, a dragon that when worn by the chosen one it became a ring. Veronica looked at it and felt tears fall down her face.

    “Maxim Horvath.” Balthazar stated. “David’s still alive, but he’s under a spell. I can’t track his exact location. Horvath wants us to go after him; I don’t know what he’s planning.” Balthazar stated.
    “We have to tell Becky.” Veronica stated.

    ~~~
    For 10 years, Balthazar did not find David, he’s still searching. He has taken in three apprentices and been training them to one day hopefully save David.
    Balthazar still has the dragon. 5 years after the event, in a dream Balthazar met Merlin, his master who’s been dead for almost 2000 years. Merlin told him that there is one more prime merlinian in case something happened to the other prime merlinian. This new prime merlinian wouldn’t just save David; they would put an end to all morganians. Also they would have their powers without the ring all along; they just can’t control it until they have the ring. Their power will awaken in the time of the prime merlinian is in need, meaning their power has awaken.
    Balthazar, Veronica, and Becky know who it is, but Balthazar is worried and concern and won’t accept who it is not wanting the same thing to happen to her as did her father.
    Hey this is a great story, I want to read more! Joke XD
    Seriously though this is a brilliant story, I have a lot to learn XD, to criticise it would be picking at holes but i'll try my very best since you nicely took the time to comment on mine.
    This sentence here: "He looked at the time to see it’s been 2 hours since Balthazar and Veronica left."
    I don't know it just sounds a little weird, tense wise it seems something is a little off, maybe 'it had been' would sound better? But then I could be very wrong and the tense is correct.
    Also, at the end when you said Merlin has one more Prime Merlinian in case something happens to the other one is pretty strange. I mean usually when there is some special chosen one they don't usually have another waiting on standby. It makes it seem like there are other Prime Merlinians which waters down the specialness of being the chosen one to me. It's like in Digimon where they made it so nearly everyone had a Digimon when before it was just a handful of kids, which ruined it a bit for me. I think if you had said he was the next one in line or 'the time of David' was over or something would have been better for me.
    Lastly, someone who doesn't know the story might be a little confused with what happened to David? I think there could have been a better build up maybe to his disappearance , he was barely in the story before he was gone for ten years.
    However all these comments are just picking at tiny little things and the story/grammar/flow is pretty much flawless, especially the first few paragraphs and then finding out its David. I loved that. Description is not too heavy either which is good.
    I'm going to stop now before this post gets too long.
    Chapter 1- School's Out
    Thank you! The criticism is appreciated. I do see your point about the next prime merlinian, and you bringing up the next in line(which sort of really is what it is, as you'll be able to tell from the progression of the rest of the story) at the time though I couldn't think of what to call it.
    Chapter 1- School’s Out
    [IMG]
    10 years later...
    “Lyn get up, it’s your last day of school!” I turned and looked at the clock on my nightstand. “Merlyn Balthazar Stutler, you better be getting ready to go!” I heard my mother call again. I tucked a few lose strands of my shoulder length hair out of my face.
    “I’m up, mom!” I called back to her.
    My name is Merlyn Balthazar Stutler, Lyn for short. I was named after the great sorcerer in legends, Merlin because my parents and even my godparents were sort of still are obsessed with magic. I was also named after my godfather and my father’s role model Balthazar Blake, if you ask me he’s a strange old man, I still love him and my godmother Veronica Blake as well. The two of them and my father own a shop in lower Manhattan called the Arcana Cabana. To tourists, and some locals, it’s advertised as a magic antique shop items for sale in there for a hefty price that have some magical tale to them. There’s a sorcerer hat in there saying whoever has a good heart and wears it will gain magical powers, there’s also a genie lamp for only its chosen master who rubs it will meet a genie and get three wishes (can’t rub ahead of time). There’s a bunch of other stories too. To the locals it’s an antique store. On the walls though there are a bunch of books, some are “spell” books and “magic” books while it varies to a bunch of old antique books by Edgar Allan Poe and some classical books like Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz, The Sword in the Stone, etc.
    I moved towards my closet the doors painted white. My room can be described as a little childish mainly because I tried not to change my room, it’s one of the last memories I have of my father.
    You see, my father when I was 5 years old went missing assumed kidnapped. Though he had part ownership in the shop my godparents own, he’s also a famous physicist and a physics professor of NYU, or New York University. He was working in my godparents shop when he went missing. As a child though every night my father would tell me stories of sorcery in this very room. The last time I saw my father was when he kissed me goodnight that faithful night, so I tried to leave it the same every night replaying it in my head when he kissed my little forehead and slowly closed my bedroom door.
    Granted my room, once filled with wands, magic books, dolls, and even a crystal ball is now filled with different things and a little more grown up. Like instead of a twin bed with a blue comforter with an image of a wizard casting a spell (yes it was a guy comforter, at the time I really wanted it, not the pink princess one but the dark blue wizard one) is now a full size bed with a light blue comforter with a cloud print and a décor pillow of a moon and two stars. On my desk instead of many wands and magic books is now a bunch of high school papers, an encyclopedia set, dictionary, and CDs. On my dresser is whatever items I found magical and thought a young sorceress should have is now covered with CDs and papers of lyrics. In the corner of my room instead of a doll house is now an electric-acoustic guitar with a small amp sitting next to it. My curtains aren’t stars and moons anymore but instead light blue with a print like my comforter and blue beads hang down in front of the actual window. The only thing exactly the same from my childhood is a picture of me as a kid with my father, my mother, and my two godparents in a frame with the Disney Sword in the Stone Merlin on one side, it sets peacefully clear of the disaster that is of my room (my room’s not really bad, like my floor is clear just my desk isn’t completely clear and like I said my drawer is covered in lyric sheets of songs I wrote). Different from my child hood is on my light blue walls are a few items; for instance drawing a box on a piece of paper, my door in the back of the left side of the box is my door, extending out of the back wall is my closet. In the center of my right wall is my bed extending out into the room, on the left of my bed is my nightstand. On the left wall below the door, in order, is my desk, dresser, and guitar. On the front side is a window and in the right bottom corner is a chair my father use to sit in and tell me the sorcery stories. Anyways, above my bed head post on the wall are different pictures of my family, friends, and my godparents in silver picture frames in sort of fancy design. Above my desk is a hutch on the shelves being my CDs, encyclopedia set, dictionary that stuff, but on that hutch is also pinned up a bunch of pictures of my few friends and me. Above my dresser is a picture of my dad, my godfather, and me in a big fancy frame(sticking out of the edges frame are concert tickets, a missing person ad for my dad that you see in junk mail and bigger versions of at Wal-Mart.
    So if you can’t tell from my room, I was very close to my dad, I’m close to my mom, just not as close. Like for instance my mom is who got me into music, she works as a radio show host doing a show every night, which explains why I’m not as close to her because I barely see her except during the day of Saturday and Sunday and when I have off from school. But during that time I’m with my friends.
    “Lyn, will you turn down your stereo.” I heard my mom call to me. I smiled and turned down the stereo.
    I looked at myself in the mirror on the back wall behind my door. A grey “The Beatles” tee I had on climed around my hour glass shape body. I looked at my grey skinny jeans leading down to my black converse with neon, but kind of dirty making them appear dark, green shoe laces. I put on a grey news boy style hat, pinned in it was a small dark green dragon pin with Hard Rock Café logo on it. I had a long chain necklace hanging down around my neck on it was two charms my father bought me, a star and a moon, a music eighth note charm my mother bought, a dragon charm from my godparents, and a guitar my best friend bought me. I slid on a silver band ring on my right middle hand finger going around the band was a star then a moon then a star my good friend bought me, on the ring finger next to it was my class ring I got this year the stone in it was dark green and despite the school colors being green and gold, the ring is silver, or well white gold. On my left wrist is a simple white athletic watch, on my right wrist was a rubber band with the name of my crush’s band written on it, Midnight Crash.
    I grabbed my black messenger bag, nothing is in it really due to it being the last day of school, but I still had my lyrical book and a “bored out of my mind” notebook with sketches and stuff in it. Not that I don’t pay attention in school, I’m really smart and after one lesson I already understand it and because I pass all my tests with 100%, the teachers can’t really yell at me for not paying attention.
    I put in my headphones and walked down the hall of our apartment. Our apartment is rich but not. There’s three bedroom and two bathrooms. The one bedroom is like a study room. A total of four doors in the hall before entering into the living room and dining room.
    I walked into the living room, on the left side of the large room is our living room with a large flat screen TV on the wall, a coffee table, a love chair, a couch, and an end table. On the right side of the room is a hutch against the wall and a dining table. On the right wall there’s an opening like a window cut out and another opening serving as a doorway into the rather large kitchen.
    I headed to the kitchen, there was an island in the middle with three bar chairs, my mom sitting at one of them reading the paper. On the islands it just counter space. In the center of the island though is a metal basket with fruit. I grabbed an apple out of it to serve as my breakfast.
    “Bye mom.” I told her before leaving. I headed out the door of our apartment and made a left to the elevator and pushed the down arrow.
    “Took you long enough.” My two best friends stood in the elevator. That’s another thing, I have only 2 real friends. All the guys at school are afraid of me because they think I’m better than them because well I’m kind of tom boyish, all the girls though are jealous of me or don’t want to hang out with me because I’m not like them, so I settle to my two best friends, Sarah Gates and Ben Connors. The other friend is an employee for my godparents in the shop.
    “Sorry, I had another dream about him.” I told them. They both exchanged a quick glance at each other before looking back at me.
    “Did you tell your mom? Or even Balthazar and Veronica?” Ben asked me. I shook my head.
    I’ve been having dreams about some old man who tells me that only I can put an end to it, then I wake up. The old man has a long white sort of messy beard sort of like Albus Dumbledore just not pony tailed. I’ve only told Ben and Sarah, every time I have one they try to have me tell at least Balthazar.
    “You have to work tonight anyways, maybe you should tell Balthazar.” Sarah told me. I shot her a look of ‘are you kidding me?’ I sighed and shook my head. I stepped out of the elevator when it reach the ground floor.
    “It’s nothing to worry about, everybody get repeating dreams every now and then.” I told them. They both exchanged a glance again but nodded.
    We both got on the bus at the bus stop and sat at our usual seat right over the wheel my feet on the bump on the floor of the bus where the wheels came up. My bag next to me. Ben and Sarah in the seat in front of me there backs against the back of the seat for the people in front of them leaving them both to face towards me.
    I smiled at them both as we all talked about stuff we’re doing this summer, our summer resolution we call it. We every year try to do something new we never done before. For most people it’s difficult but when you live in the Big Apple, it really isn’t.
    I looked over at Ben who already dug out is Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP. He got a Nintendo DS for Christmas, but he still is sort of old school with his SP. I rolled my eyes at him. Ben is a fit tall guy, but not taller than people his own age. He’s probably 4 inches taller than me and I’m 5’7”. He has brown hair that have short bangs if you call them bangs. If he used gel he could spike the front, but he doesn’t and lets it sit. All around though the length of every hair on the top of his head is maybe 1 inch. He has hazel eyes that change depending on his mood, when he’s calmed or relax like he is now, they’re blue. When he’s extremely happy or working hard they’re green, when he’s deep in thought or embarrassed they’re brown, then the odd one out, when he’s stressed or mad they’re a red brown but more red. He’s always seen with his signature brown church shoes, they remind me of my godfather’s shoes. They were his grandfather’s though and like my room has memories of my father and I wear the moon and star charm, Ben was close to his grandfather before he was killed in a car accident caused by a stupid drunk college student, one thing I promise not to do is drink, plus because of the incident Sarah and I both promised not to because of Ben.
    “Really, Ben. The minute we go and talk about one guy thing you’re buried in your SP.” Sarah stated. I leaned over the seat to see what he was playing, Pokémon Sapphire, his favorite game, I should have known. I looked back at Sarah who looked at me and rolled her green eyes. Sarah has wavy blond hair much like my mother’s but Sarah’s is more of a strawberry blond. Sarah is an inch shorter than me. She unlike me dresses more like the “popular” girls wearing mini-skirts and some nice pretty top. Difference? For one, attitude, second Sarah is 100% skater girl if she doesn’t look it, that’s where I met her when I was in the skateboarding phase in fourth grade and Balthazar took me to a skate park. She was there with her older brother. Sarah’s parents are both gone. Her father abandoned her mother and her mother died of cancer when she was in first grade.
    “For your information, I’m a guy, so unless you two want me to turn gay, I’ll stick to playing my game while you going on about boys.” Ben stated. Sarah and I both laughed.
    All three of us got off the bus and headed into the school not even bothering to stop at our lockers as we stepped into class. All of us waiting already for the last school bell to ring signaling for school’s out for summer.
    I walked into my last hour class, 3pm can’t come any quicker can it. I looked at Sarah.
    “So what are you planning for your B-Day tomorrow?” Sarah asked me. I shrugged. “It’s your sweet 16 and you don’t know?” She asked surprised.
    “I think my mom’s throwing a surprise party.” I told her. She nodded slowly.
    “Obviously not tomorrow or I would know.” Sarah laughed.
    “Well I was thinking maybe throwing my own little party after my mom goes to work.” I told her.
    “Go for it, though it would probably just be Ben and I” Sarah stated. I glanced towards the door as a tall, built, hot guy walk in, my crush, Bobby Morgan. Sarah followed my eyes. “Lyn! You can’t. It’s time to let him go, he’s a senior meaning after graduation tonight he’s a college boy, your mom would never let you date him if he gave you the chance which he probably won’t because he’ll have college girls to sleep with.” She stated. I shot a glare at her.
    “I’m still inviting him to my party.” I told her standing up.
    “A few seconds ago, you weren’t even sure if you were having a party!” She exclaimed.
    “Hey Bobby!” I exclaimed walking up to him. He looked at me and smiled.
    “Hey, Lyn. What’s up?” Bobby asked me.
    “I’m having a party tomorrow at my place, I was wondering if-“ I started before being cut off by the witch of the school. Head of the cheerleaders, most popular girl in school despite being a sophomore like myself, Katelyn Dolls. She’s the one who makes my life most like a well, living hell in school. All because on my first day of school here in fourth grade, I accidentally spilled my Sunny Delight on her new Hello Kitty shirt, it was a tacky shirt if you ask me, but she still holds a grudge. I looked at her straight blond hair and blue eyes, face covered in makeup and her scent of the Dark Kiss perfume from Bath and Body Works. I looked at her pink tank top that showed her skinny belly, no muscle though, she’s probably just anorexic. She also had on a jean mini-skirt if shorter by two inches everybody would see her underwear probably from Victoria Secret’s sex underwear department if they have one. She also had on high heel black boots If you can’t tell, she’s also sort of like the school slut. She’s been going after Bobby since we started high school but thankfully for me and another reason why I love Bobby, he won’t give her the time of day.
    “Hey Robert.” She stated in a sort of voice expected from a girl like her. “I’m having a party tomorrow and you’re invited.” She stated. I shot dagger eyes at her when I felt an arm wrap around my shoulders.
    “Sorry, Kat,” he said her nickname, “but I’m busy and even then I might be going to Lyn’s party.” Bobby stated. Yes! Score 1 Lyn big fat 0 for Kat. She looked at me and glared. “Now if you ladies excuse me.” Bobby said walking away.
    “What the heck, freak. You know Bobby is my guy. You’re lucky he’s a nice guy or he regularly wouldn’t give you the time of day.” Kat stated.
    “And that’s why if Matt is sick I’m called to fill in on guitar for his band, because…?” I stated.
    “Stay away from my boy, freak. Get near him one more time you’ll be the one wishing you were missing instead of your freak daddy.” The minute she said that my blood began to boil with anger. I clenched my hand in a fist.
    “Don’t EVER call my father a freak again, freak!” I yelled at her before hearing students in the classroom scream of fear and quickly run out of the room followed by Kat. I quickly turned around smelling smoke and noticed a fire from the radiator, which is strange because they’re completely off in the summer.
    “Lyn!” Sarah exclaimed grabbing her stuff and my stuff and grabbing my arm before hurrying out of the school as well while fire alarms went off.
    We stood outside and were soon joined by Ben from his video game designing class. So many whispers were moving all around us. I looked around and my friends who glanced at each other and all three of us turned our heads to see the principle standing on a bench with a megaphone.
    “Please quiet down. As you all know, there was a fire in the social studies department. The firemen have safely put it out, with a bit of damage, but nothing real severe.” The principle started when more whispers rose up.
    “That’s the sixth fire this month!” One student yelled out. Call it a coincidence but it seemed like all the fires that have happened were near me.
    “I know, I know, now please quiet down. The school is old and though yearly inspections happen and the school was marked as safe-“ The principle started again before getting cut off.
    “So the fires just start up on their own, like magic, poof there’s a fire?!” A student yelled out with an uproar.
    “They have no idea.” I heard Ben say. I stopped and looked back at him. It was weird, like I heard his voice, but the voice wasn’t heard with my ears but with my head. Like a random thought from yourself conscious when you hear your voice in your head remind you of something or telling you if something’s right or wrong, like that but Ben’s voice. I looked at him confused and I saw him glance at me a look of confusion on his face.
    “Did you… say something?” I asked him, my voice sounding unsure by its question. He shook his head before glancing at Sarah who seemed to stare at me confused.
    “Ummm…no…?” Ben said slowly. I turned around slowly to look back at the principle who was desperately yelling though her megaphone to quiet the crowd, or mob of students.
    “PLEASE! Now as I was saying, we know what happened and this summer the school board has came to a conclusion-LET ME FINISH! They are over the summer fix up the school, figure out the cause of these problems and fix them when you all return in August. You still have another hour left of school, but seeing the circumstances and as you all already guessed by the buses,” I turned my head to see a row of yellow bus not even realizing they were there while still listening to the principle, “We’re sending you all home now.” The principle finished before Mr. Barkson, the gym teacher, football coach, basketball coach, track coach, and the big mouth of the school take the principle’s position on the bench. The principle handed him the megaphone but he pushed it away.
    “NOW LISTEN UP! We’re going to start dismissing you by grade to your buses starting with-AND I DON’T WANT TO HEAR ANY MOANS! Starting with Freshmen-“ Mr. Barkson stated as moans from senior and juniors erupted but cheering and wide smiles from freshmen who were escaping “freshmen graduation”(basically where seniors and juniors pants, pushed, shoved in lockers, etc. to the freshmen for the very last time, that usually happens at the bell. Last year I had the opportunity of getting out of it thanks to an early dismissal.) “HEY, LISTEN UP!” Mr. Barkson yelled everybody getting quiet again. “Freshmen go.” He pointed with his thumbs behind him to the buses on the other side of the fence. I watched as senior’s and junior’s eyes darted to the faces of freshmen who now look frantic and broke out into a run of fear though to somebody oblivious of the facts, it could sound like screams of joys.
    The minute it grew quiet, I fixed my bag on my shoulder and started towards the gate Ben and Sarah following behind me.
    “Sophomores!” Mr. Barkson shouted out. At that time I was walking out of the gate towards my bus and climbed on, taking my usual seat.
    I've only read the prologue, but I'd like to comment just on that before I go on to the next chapter. I'll go ahead and warn ya, before I've even started collecting my thoughts, that I'm a pretty blunt reviewer. I don't try to be offensive, or anything, but chances are I'll end up coming across that way anyhow. I'll also comment on the stuff I think needs work first, then the good stuff. So, that out of the way...
    Well, to start, I have a similar concern as Epic Kirby concerning the next Prime Merlinian. To me, it seems like a very fanfic thing to do. I know that sounds like a retarded way to put it, because you are writing a fanfic, but the idea just seems like a common thing that a lot of people writing fanfic about TSA would think up.
    Your little girl's name strikes me in a similar way. Looking at it, I immediately think "Mary Sue". Whether your character is a Sue, I've no idea because I haven't read very far and there isn't much yet to show development (even if I wasn't just commenting on the prologue), but that's kind of my general first impression, and first impressions are often hard to look past, especially taking into account that the girl is the back-up prime merlinian.
    Well, to move on from that, I have to disagree with Epic Kirby about the grammar. There are some passages that read oddly to me. I'll pull out a couple, but I don't want to look like a bitch and dissect the whole thing (unless you think that'd be helpful, in which case, I'm bored and don't mind proofing a bit).
    It's the "some" here, which seems like a small thing, but for some reason just sounds strange. It sounds a little country or something. I'd expect it to come out of my mouth, but not see it written down in this way. It also kind of reads as a run-on to me.
    Grammar is funky here, too. The "He had a short beard" is written like it should be a new sentence, or maybe you could use a ";" but I still think it would sound awkward. The second sentence is a bit of a run on- I'd put a comma after "man", and "stopping trying to hold him back" is also awkwardly worded.
    Basically, I see a lot of the same- no spelling errors that I noticed, but some language that sounded more like how someone would speak (except this wasn't in dialogue) rather than what I'd expect to see published (or just higher quality) and a lack of some needed commas.
    I'd also like to see a little more description. Like, you mentioned that something happened in Central Park, but unless I just missed it, never mentioned what that was. I don't understand why it's important to keep Merlyn in the dark about her possible magical powers. Maybe it'll make sense in time?
    On to some good stuff then. I like the way you have David recapping the movie as a bedtime story for his daughter. That's really sweet. For the most part, you've done a good job with the spelling and technical things of that sort. I've seen far, far worse, so pat yourself on the back for that. I also like the idea of David's disappearance, suddenly like that, without him fighting back or anything. I think you've got some good ideas and it'll be interesting to see how it all turns out. Hope this helps in some way or another.
    Thanks Toph, I highly appreciate the feedback. It didn't come off offensive at all neither. the few mistakes you pointed out tend to be my most common and will hopefully be able to fix up over time, maybe throughout this story with. Perhaps I'll try to bring in a friend or someone to read over it and catch the mistakes I missed like that. Thank you though.
    Chapter 2- What?!
    I looked at my two friends surprise to see them so quiet. I looked out the window to see us stop at the bus stop where I’d get off and head towards Balthazar’s shop. Slowly I made my way down the street. I stood in the front of the shop, looking up at the sign and climbed the steps up some and opened the door a bell ringing that was hanging above the door. I looked around the giant antique magic shop stocked high of unique and never seen before items and books, lots and lots of books. I looked around and headed towards the back to the checkout counter in the back left corner of the shop.
    “You’re here early.” I jumped some hearing my godfather’s deep voice. I turned around and looked at him walking from the back room, which was behind a purple curtain. I nodded.
    “They decided to let us out of school early.” I smiled at him and he grinned seeing past my lie, I’m sure.
    “You’re a terrible liar, Lyn.” He told me. I grinned and shrugged as I walked into the back room Veronica and Josh, my third friend you can say, also employee of the shop, come up from the basement. Veronica and Josh both smiled at me and looked at me confused.
    “You’re here early.” Veronica said. I sighed and nodded.
    “There was a fire in the school again. I don’t know how happened this time, but it happened in my classroom near the furnace.” I told them putting my bag on the couch. I looked around the backroom. There were stairs leading to the basement on the left. There was a metal railing going across it. Up against the railing is a corner desk table thing with papers, coffee maker, small mini fridge, a few items that needed looking over by Balthazar. “That school is so old they need to just tear the dang thing down.” I stated grabbing a bottle water out of the fridge.
    “Nobody got hurt did they?” Veronica asked me. I shook my head.
    “Well… I don’t think so, I was sort of mad at Kat for what she said that my mind was sort of blank and mad. Had Sarah not pulled me out of the room I’d probably remain standing in the room.” I told her. They nodded slowly. Veronica looked up at Balthazar.
    “You don’t say…” She said looking up at him. I nodded. “Well I’m glad nobody got hurt. Can you dust the shop?” Veronica asked me. I nodded and grabbed the broom and dust pan.
    I started at the front of the store but heard Balthazar and Veronica arguing or discussing somewhat loudly with anger tone about something. Half mindedly, I kept dusting but for some reason my ears traveling to their conversation in the back room.
    “Balthazar you have to! It’s obvious her, you better do it now before she does turn against us or steps into a morganians circle.” Veronica argued.
    “I don’t want to bring her into this. If I foresaw long ago is true, the minute she steps into the Merlin circle and accepts her gift, all of her children will have powers and eventually the war will happen and non magic mortals will really learn that their fantasy is real.” Balthazar told her.
    “But Balthazar, you know that she has powers, she can’t control them, and we don’t know what will happen if she doesn’t at least receive it!” Veronica exclaimed. I was closer to the back of the shop surprised how much I’ve done. I dumped the dirt and dust in the tray and before starting on the back of the store I walked towards the drape curtain over the doorway where on the other side of the door where Balthazar and Veronica were arguing.
    “I won’t do it.” Balthazar stated.
    “She could die! Plus she may be able to save David!” Veronica exclaimed. What they were talking about confused me some. Who was this she they were talking about and David? David’s my father’s name, were they talking about him?
    “Veronica-“ Balthazar started before being cut off.
    “I don’t want to hear your excuse. You got apprentices, so far you’ve got three young apprentices, the only one old enough, wise enough, and strong enough right now to take on Horvath is Josh.” I was really confused now. “Isn’t there a way you can teach her without having her step into the Merlin circle?”
    “Veronica you know if she doesn’t, she’ll be a neutral sorceress and if she would by chance step into a morganian circle, she would become a morganian, a powerful one at that. You know what can happen then, her mind can become revolved around Morgana just like Horvath, remember, Horvath refused to step into the Merlin circle making him neutral and when he became mad at me and ran away and met Morgana stepping into a morganian circle, he completely changed.” Balthazar stated.
    “So we be extra careful then. Plus if something like that were to happen, we can-“ She stopped hearing the front door bell. I quickly moved away, grabbed the broom, and stuck in my headphones from my iPod to make it seem like I didn’t hear anything.
    “Hey Lyn!” I heard Ben and Sarah.
    “She’s listening to her iPod in the shop, she probably can’t hear you. HEY LYN, CAN YOU PULL OUT YOUR HEADPHONES- oh hi Mrs. Blake!” Ben stated. I looked up pulling out my headphones.
    “Hello Ben, Sarah.” Veronica greeted. I saw Balthazar step out of the back room and look at me, the minute my eyes and his eyes locked I knew he knew I heard him. I could tell on his face he wondered how much I knew. All I was, was confused.
    “Almost done?” He asked me letting it go as I tried not to answer the question he asked on his face with a possible look of confusion on mine. I smiled and nodded pretending to turn my iPod off even know I just stuck the headphones in to pretend I didn’t hear anything.
    “I didn’t do the upper level yet though.” I told him. He nodded.
    “Ben, Sarah I need you and Josh’s help downstairs. Lyn finish the upper level then help Veronica with inventory.” Balthazar instructed me. I moaned and cursed to myself. I hated doing inventory, it takes forever, and I might have help but even then it takes two of us 4 hours to do it.
    It is a great movie, I've seen it several times(had to write this fanfic) Please though, your post though talking about the movie is irrelevant to this story. If you are to be posting in a thread with a story in it, it should only be criticism, even if a small post on criticism.
    Chapter 3- Work, Mars, and The Trigger
    YouTube - One Republic - Tyrant [Lyrics]
    [IMG]
    I finished the upper level dusting and had been working on inventory so far for an hour with Veronica, the upper level finished, the only thing finished. With the two of us usually, it takes us 30 minutes because it’s nothing but books and they’re in order by author’s last name, Sarah and I made sure last summer when we got tired of the shop being unorganized. I had always done inventory it was the first time Sarah was doing it and she couldn’t stand how long it took so we made it easier.
    Every time I looked over at my godmother she was looking at me, a look of guilt, apology, disappointment, I’m not sure plastered on her face. Whatever it was on her mind was distracting her. I was half tempted to quit to see if that make her quit, but this look, though somehow involved me, was obvious was something on her mind and my quitting wouldn’t help, it would just hurt the shop.
    I felt the floor vibrate. I’ve grown used to it, all of us have. My godparents explained to me 8 years ago that after my dad wasn’t around to help with keeping the supports good(not that the shop will fall through) they’re a little weaker and feel the vibrations of sub trains traveling on subway tracks running underneath the street outside the shop. It happens every now and then.
    I looked at the time, 8pm. I technically go on break, but technically we’d be done with inventory already, seeing as my godmother has hardly been working and I’ve been doing all the work, trying to work harder to pick up her slack, we were only a little over half way done. I didn’t want to stop till we were done but my stomach rudely disagreed with me when it growled loudly. I sighed.
    “Why don’t you take a break, you’re working hard.” I turned towards my godmother expecting to find a smile that she can handle the rest, but it was the same look of every other time I looked at her. I nodded and smiled at her but the way she seemed felt like a disease and I could feel my mouth trying not to smile anymore.
    I turned my attention to the door to see Ben and Sarah come walking up looking exhausted and Sarah looked like a total mess. Whatever Balthazar made them do in the basement all the time, always left them completely a mess of exhaustion. When I ask it was either cleaning, moving stuff, cleaning stuff in storage that would maybe one day find its way upstairs to be sold, basement inventory which involved moving stuff around, etc. I felt bad for them but they were strong, they’ve shown signs of that for a very long time. Sarah, even know I look like I could beat her up, could easily take me down. Balthazar knew that and had them doing I guess the hard work. Did it bother me? Not really actually, I just had this feeling like I don’t belong in the basement…yet. The yet gets me every time, the little voice in my head, with its amused and bored voice told me that every time. The voice of myself conscious, it’s a funny one, it’s like two voices one that’s bored, half amused, another was wise and all knowing. Sometimes a third one that was evil, like I get evil thoughts, but this one is hands down evil.
    “Do we get a break, PLEASE!” Sarah exclaimed. Balthazar chuckled at her like he did when I was a little kid complaining or asking for something.
    “Go ahead. You get two hours to get dinner, all of you.” Balthazar stated. “Come back though, it’s a weekend and you all stay over her every Friday, so be ready to come back to work.” Friday’s is quality time with the godparents, that I get to spend with my godparents of course, Josh who live in a totally separate apartment besides my godparents in the shop(he’s in college and lives there for free by working for my godparents), and Ben and Sarah. Sarah loves it because she doesn’t have to spend it with her brother who’s sort of a desperate boy trying to find a mate. Every night he’d have a new girl, whenever she can’t take it anymore she stays with me or goes to my godparents and stays with them. My godparents are practically her godparents. Ben likes it because he gets away from his weird, gay older brother, his weird little sister who is afraid of everything, his mother who’s constantly “trying new things”(things that involved something new with alcohol), and his father the workaholic. He used to escape to his grandfather’s but when he moved on, Ben moved onto me, basically doing the same thing Sarah did. Literally those two have keys to my godparents and my apartment.
    “So where do you want to get something to eat?” I asked. “Remember the summer resolution.” I stated. This one is harder because a lot of restaurants in New York City won’t take underage and especially teenagers.
    “We can try that Mars restaurant.” Ben suggested. Mars 2112, Sarah and I heard about it every summer we started the summer resolution. Ben was there as a kid, his grandfather used to always take him, so we’d tell him no because he’s been there before. Sarah and I never have because we had no pleasure to, especially not with Ben. Ben is an astronomy nerd. Everything astronomy, Ben knows it, even better than astronaut, not kidding. One year, an astronaut(a student’s uncle) came to our middle school and was talking about space travel when a student asked him a question about the moon. The astronomer was never on the moon, just to fix satellites and he didn’t know the answer, what did he do? He made up an answer. Ben got mad and stood up answering the question, leaving a very proud Ben, a student with a correct answer question, impressed teachers and angry teachers, an auditorium of laughing eighth graders, and one humiliated astronaut.
    Sarah and I moaned of him bringing it up. Ben looked at us mad and crossed his arms. He went to open his mouth to complain but I raised a finger in front of his face. He stopped and looked at me. I sighed and smiled.
    “Let’s go get on the subway.” I stated. I got a look of surprise and anger from Sarah and a look of happiness from Ben.
    The three of us walked in being shown to our table by a hostess with a painted green face. Ben sat in his seat and he seemed really excited. He looked around the restaurant probably remembering his childhood memories of the times his grandfather brought him here. I looked around and I had to admit, the restaurant looked really cool and to any kid the place would look like a real restaurant on mars, to any kid. I noticed Ben change and I knew what was next, so did Sarah when she glared at me. We were about to receive a sermon about the real mars. I slouched down in my chair.
    “Hello, how are you all doing tonight?” Thank you green face painted waiter. “I’m Sean and I’m going to be your waiter for tonight. Can I start you off with something to drink?” He asked us. I looked at my menu.
    “Do you carry coke products?” Sarah asked.
    “No we carry Pepsi.” Sarah only drinks soda if it’s a coke product because her uncle worked for pepsi but was laid off. If he wasn’t laid off and trying to support his wife and baby boy, he would have taken her instead of her being stuck with her father. Sarah is glad she got Ben and I as friends. But if it’s sierra mist, she won’t drink it, sprite she’ll drink. Brisk ice tea, nope.
    “I’ll have your galactic ice tea.” She stated. I knew what that meant and looked at the menu. Fresh brewed unsweetened ice tea.
    “I’ll have the same.” I stated, not because of Sarah(not entirely) but because I don’t like pop too much and prefer ice tea over it any day.
    “Pepsi.” Sarah shot a glare at him. He shook his head at her and smiled at the waiter.
    “Ok, would you like to have an appetizer?” The waiter asked. The three of us looked at the menu and smiled.
    “We’ll have the Saturn Onion Rings.” We all said in unison. All three of us huge onion ring fans.
    We all talked about random things. We eventually ordered our meal. Ben and I both having cheeseburgers and Sarah ordered a salad. The three of us all joked around. Eventually our meals arrived and I saw why Ben wanted so badly to come here(besides being an astronomy nerd, which even then). The food was amazing!
    Sarah and I kept looking at each other and back at our food. We heard Ben laugh before Sarah shot him a warning glare.
    “What’s so funny?” I asked him.
    “Your faces about how amazing this food was. Did I stir you two to the wrong place, of course not!” Ben exclaimed proud of himself. Sarah and I both smiled at his over proud self. I soon finished up and smiled at the two of them.
    “Hey I’m going to go to the bathroom.” I told them. They both nodded. I stood up and walked past a woman with really tall blue hair with antennas pointing out and her skin painted green.
    “How was your meal today?” I heard her ask Sarah and Ben.
    “AMAZING!” I heard Sarah exclaim rather loudly causing me to laugh.
    I started towards the bathroom that involved walking past the bar. I was surprised to see it empty while the rest of the restaurant. There was one person working there, his skin wasn’t painted green. He was cleaning glasses while talking to a man with an older looking hat I could have sworn I’ve seen before. He had a brown coat on with a fur trim I could tell from his back. In his hand even though he didn’t need it, but he still held it, as if of great value, was a fancy cane. I stopped only for a little for some reason.
    ‘Horvath!’ I was surprised to hear my father’s voice ring through my head like a never ending echo. I grabbed my forehead and saw the man cleaning the glasses look up from his conversation with the other man as the other man turned around to look at me. At that instance I knew I had to get out of there, call it a gut feeling. I quickly hurried towards the girl’s bathroom and ran into one of the stalls. I put the seat cover down and sat on it holding my head in my hands.
    That man triggered something, I don’t know what, but it was way too weird. Whatever it was seemed connected to my father and strangely I had another gut feeling that it was connected to my weird dreams. I dug out my phone from my pocket and text Ben and Sarah.
    ‘Get chek’ I text them.
    ‘y’ I got a respond from Sarah.
    ‘Jus do it’ I replied. After a few moments I didn’t get a respond I knew she asked for the check.
    Had a little bit of time, figured I'd comment on Chapter One. I'm kinda just rambling whatever I thought while I was reading. >_<
    Basically, my critique is the same as it was for the prologue.
    This stupidly made me laugh out loud. Old school to me is the regular old game boy. :D Also, the product placement is kind of "meh", I suppose. I guess I prefer to have a more open setting- the mentioning of the DS and Hello Kitty and some of that other stuff dates the piece, makes it less universal. If that makes sense. >_< Like, in a few years, if I had some random urge to read TSA fanfiction and I read this, those things would jump out at me and distract me a little.
    Grammar is the same as in my last post. I think a beta reader would come in handy.
    And to be honest, I still have reservations about your main character. She seems a bit Mary Sue to me.
    This line in particular jumps out at me. But it's still early.
    I guess that's all I really have at this point. I'll try and catch up on your chapters the next time I'm online and have a spare moment. I think the story idea is interesting and want to keep reading. These are just the things that caught my attention that I figured I may as well point out to you, since I know I'd want to be told.
