Edgy Post-Modern Batmanesque/Assassin Roleplay?

I've had an idea brewing for something to the effect of a Batman sort of RP (following a line generally in line with that of "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" in terms of an over all style. The RP would be pretty much based around a group of vigilantes seeking to clean up the streets of their home city... by way of assassination of those who corrupt and disturb it. They target corrupted law enforcement, legislature and business figures as well as overt criminal offenders (typically the more dangerous of them, such as abductors, murderers, and those involved in organized crimes).

They all come from some troubled past that has lead them to their harsh attitude towards criminal activity, and have been taken under the wing of a capable syndicate of sorts that has provided them with the cutting edge gadgets that give them the leg up over those that would stand against them.

The people adore these vigilantes. They do everything they can to support and encourage them.

The law feels undermined by them. They seek to capture them and bring them to justice.

The criminals see them as a threat. They want nothing more than to see them dead.

The RP will be open for:

- Six, maybe seven of the vigilantes. Maybe less, since I don't really want anyone playing more than one of them.
- Law enforcement/investigators. This can be police, independent detectives, possibly FBI, CIA, and National Guard type people.
- Possibly a dedicated, longer term criminal/crime group to bring the other two parties together at some point.

There will be some scifi elements (cool gadgets, technological enhancements, like bionics and such). Of course, it has to be explained within some level of reason. Mind, you won't be able to carry some death ray that can incinerate large masses of people without trace. Creativity and uniqueness is, of course, welcome.

 

Well, it'll be Batmanesque in the sense of the overall atmosphere I'm trying to create with it, and the general use of fun gadgety equipment to facilitate the deeds.

 

This RP would mostly be focused on the relation between the vigilante group and the law enforcement though. My reason for a full villain would be for the sake of drawing the two closer through common goals.
