Traditional Showcase Writing Challenge - Week 1

Greetings, writers of KHPlanet! As the Moderator presiding over the Creative Lounge Sub-Forum, it is my pleasure to introduce you to Week 1 of the Traditional Showcase Writing Challenge. This challenge will serve as a revival of the successful series of contests hosted by Kitty a few years ago. The challenge will take place on a weekly basis. Over the course of five to six days, writers will have the opportunity to complete and submit a short work tying into a weekly theme or idea as presented in the weekly challenge thread. After submissions are made, they will be posted for public viewing, and a winner will be determined by way of a public poll.

    All Challenge Entries Must...
    • Be original works written by the member submitting them.
    • Be private messaged to me by the given deadline. Late entries will not be posted for voting.
    • Fit within the parameters of up to and including a PG-13 (or comparable) rating. Any material found unsuitable to this standard will not be posted for voting.
      [*}Number at one per participant.
[*}Be related to the theme for the week.
    • Be approximately 1000-2000 words in length.

Upon the due date, which will be provided below, all submissions will be posted publicly and anonymously (by me), and a poll will be opened and remain active throughout the day, through which a victor will be decided.

    Voters must...
    • Not have been participants in the week's contest.
    • Read through each entry carefully.
    • Provide critical feedback for each submission.
    • Announce their decision on which submission they feel should win and why they feel that way.

Following the voting process the identity of the winner of the week's challenge will be announced.

    Victory Spoils Will Include..
    • Bragging rights for a whole week.
    • The privilege of choosing the next week's theme.
    • A place within a revived Hall of Fame for contest submissions.
    • Possibly some rep thrown your way by yours truly.
    • Any new prizes that our awesome admins and site staff can conjour through the forums.

While there's no guaruntee that you'll win any given challenge, you should always have in mind what you want the next week's theme to be; that way we can keep things moving.

    Week One's Theme: Rebirth
With KHPlanet preparing to launch itself into a new era, it seems only fitting to make the first of this era's writing contests one to focus on new beginnings. Whether the literal return of a demise, or the revitalization of resolve or vigor, rebirth is a theme touched upon in many writings. Submissions for this first week should reflect such an idea of starting anew. Both prose and poetry will be acceptable for submissions provided that they tie into this theme.

Due Date: All submissions must be in by Monday August 11th, 2014

Best wishes to all that participate.

Can't wait to see what secret writings people are (should be) getting worked together.

If my submission can be at least 500 words, I'll totally enter.

What is your preferred medium? I went with 1,000-2,000 words because that's a common consensus for short stories. Though poem I should say would be more in the neighborhood of 30-50 lines. If there's another way you wish to apply then by all means share.

Yeah, you're right that's a good general guideline for short stories. And I'm completely down for it. But I believe it's too high to start out. I doubt; we have actual writers on the forum, so generally speaking. We should accommodate for those people that aren't writers, plus 1000 words may be a little intimating and thought as time consuming.

I really don't like to put a "word count" on creativity, because I believe a story is finish when it is finished. So I would honestly let people use their best judgement and see how that goes!

I've always felt that all we ever had around here were writers. I feel that there needs to be some sort of minimum word count, even just a ballpark, to go off of. The whole point of a challenge is to challenge people, after all.
