PERHAPS KINGDOM HEARTS IS BEST ‘FELT’ RATHER THAN DECIPHERED

This is something I’ve had on my mind a while but haven’t had much luck putting into words.

The whole debacle that is the lore has become somewhat of a stigma almost. I dont just mean the typical “KH is convoluted/complicated!” either. It’s kinda hard to put into words since I know there’s people that legitimately enjoy stories to decipher and I also know not every person that does it will put off an elitist or @$$hole front and I’m not one to talk myself. I’ve been on every aspect of that KH fan lore digging spectrum.

The bygone years and wasted time on the lore has kinda showed me something though, I basically killed my enjoyment for the series myself. I deciphered it and picked it apart, argued, acted like an @$$, and at the end of it all I did was show myself flaws or meet people who were like me at the time, too opinionated about the matter.

The series itself isn’t even that complex either, there is a legitimate argument for ignoring anything that’s not in the games you play. In fact, you can do that. I’d even argue it’s more enjoyable TO do that.

I’ve rediscovered joy when I quit caring and did so, I’ve seen people who ignored sites or topics for this reason.
I mean, there is retcons, there is things that should’ve been said in-game, and there is more than one occasion you’ll think it was better to follow your own theory than to see Nomura’s given statement.

When you get down to it, you truly dont need to know anything other than what you play in each title. Granted you’ll still see flaws in writing or logic, and you’ll sadly have to sit through most of each entry, but this doesn’t seem to deter or ruin it for people as much as deciphering and arguing with each other does.

To be honest, I’m not even sure I worded my thought properly….

I dunno. I guess I just wanted to get it out that it’s best to just “feel” the story. You’ll need some level of understanding but nothing just playing the series wont tell you.

    I guess you could say many fans are like Diz, trying too hard to wrap our minds around what our heart already knows. After all this time I think more and more that the series isn’t something you pick apart with your brain…or rather;

DON’T DECIPHER KINGDOM HEARTS, FEEL IT.

I can't say I completely understand but why can't it be both. That's one thing to mind numbingly play a game but there comes a point where you just want to know what the heck is going on. For example, probably Dream Drop Distance is the most mind boggling game yet. Young Xehanort goes into this tangent about Recusant Sigils and Time Travel which was clumsily put together. For me personally, the concept of time is bent to fit whatever convoluted story Nomura comes up with and shouldn't have gotten to that point. For something to be felt, you generally need a concept of what you're feeling.

There's absolutely no reason it can't be both, it's more akin to the over analyzing or treating Nomura like a bible for things. The games themselves generally give you the amount of concept you need.

Tbh I've often wondered if the amount of "it's convoluted/complicated" claims are because people tend to do/prefer that...eh thoughts for another write on another day I guess.

I saw this today, this person words it better: http://kirabook.tumblr.com/post/171518807764/i-think-we-as-kingdom-hearts-fandom-must-come-to

I never got into the whole picking apart of games to find holes in the story or connections that are or aren't meant to be there. A game is a game; nothing more, nothing less. Most developers don't make a game to have it put under a microscope to find plot holes. They have a story that they want people to experience through playing it, and if they enjoy it for what it is then they succeeded in that goal.

But I am not trying to knock another person's way to have fun. While I simply enjoy a game and its story, and consider that fun; another person might find using a fine-toothed comb on a video game's story equally as fun. There is no one way to have fun with a video game.

Rereading this and the comments make me worry I didn't word it well at all...it's like I'm advocating a specific way to do it rather than it's best to enjoy it first and all that....

Logic I wish I had a decade ago.

The link I showed earlier was a post with a similar stance (worded way better than what I put) and I've noticed what attention it gets seems to show a bigger "author is dead" aspect to the fandom that I knew existed.

I get what you're saying. I'm tempted to agree with you since I feel that Nomura just over complicates things. Like that one thing we talked about before, with his explanation of Young Xehanort being immune to Mickey's Stopza spell. Nomura's explanation made it much more complicated compared to a simpler, more reasonable explanation I can only assume most people would've come up with on their own.

That's a prime example. There's so many times I've seen fan views that fit together better than what Nomura offers. Not that there's anything wrong with it if someone likes his opinion. I enjoy his development interviews at times, there's so many things fans think are important but were added for such simple reasons. lol (like armor and coats originally were just there to hid incomplete designs during the trailers)

Still, I do think it should be treated more secondary. It's confusing to describe but if you play KH it usually handles itself ok. Not grand but not horribly.
