Anime/manga recommendation for someone who doesn't like "tropes" of "fan-service".

    I absolutely adored reading through Beserk. I would love some new recommendations, but the fan service needs to be held at a minimum unless. I like midivil, fantasy, dark, horrific, surreal stuff genres. School-girl anime is typically all the same.

    Mushishi but I'd recommend the anime. The story is the same in manga and anime but the anime adds great visuals. Season one is on funimations youtube and season two is on crunchyroll.

    Another odd one is kyousougiga, it's more about family.
    Also Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. It's on crunchyroll in both languages.
