    Toph's Review of FFVII

Final Fantasy VII was my first FF game, so it'll always be special to me. Yet, while it's an enjoyable game, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's my favorite.

The storyline was very well written. The characters were all likeable and finding out about them was fun. Hidden scenes like those between Cloud and Zack enriched the game and funky glitches like Aerith's ghost made for some fun wtf moments. This is also one of the few games to make me cry. Aerith's death still makes me tear up a little. The story was linear enough that I didn't feel lost, but there were enough sidequests and optional bosses to give me something to do when I didn't feel like progressing to the next part.

    Storyline/Characters: 9/10

Gameplay was decent. Battles went smoothly and the limit break system worked well. Some of the limit breaks came in very handy and earning each limit for the characters took up many hours of my life. There were some challenging bosses (damn Ruby Weapon) and for the most part it was a pleasant experience.

    Gameplay: 8/10

I've heard it many times: the graphics of FFVII were great for their time. Well, from my vantage point today, and when I first played the game, they were pretty damn shitty. Anyone who's played it knows what I mean. The blocky characters with no noses and triangle arms aren't exactly the most visually pleasing. Looking at the artwork though, you could tell the characters and places were supposed to look good.

    Graphics: 6/10

FFVII had some awesome music, and some not so awesome music. Aerith's Theme, One Winged Angel, Cid's Theme, and the theme that plays inside the Forgotten City were all beautiful and/or catchy. But then you get music like that in Don Corneo's mansion, which is just painful to listen to. Sound effects were pretty mediocre from what I remember, but I suppose that's because the game is so old.

    Sound/Music: 8/10

    My overall score is 7/10.

Ya, my rating was like a 7.5/10. I was starting to play this game recently and it was facinating. I wonder how would be when the next game of FVII would looked like in the PS3 or something like that with those high graphics and bluray ofcourse.

That would take up many years to finish that game.

The blocky characters were intentional but the ones in battle were much better also the most of the music was streamed off the sound chip but the ones you mentioed as good were off the disc.

  4. All in all the game was very good for the FF series. I seriously doubt that people would've known more about FF if VII didin't come out.
