I never took the ABRSM, though I have heard of them and to be honest I find it poor way to test people. And you've been doing marching band since you were 10?! That's about the age I started to play the flute.

To learn intervals I just sat at the piano and with my eyes close I'd play two notes separated then together. Playing them together is a little more difficult. Usually I'll have to listen to it twice, the first time list for the bottom note, sing it and play it again listening to the top note. So I separate them, but even then it can be difficult.

That's similar to a chart my music teacher gave us in theory to help recognize the intervals. They're all pretty common.

I love theory! Especially music composition.

I can recognize some pitches, and usually through those pitches I can figure out others. Like I know Bb from a common band tuning note and those Bb warm up band scales. I know E from tuning my guitar by ear and listening to just the E for the rest. I know A and F as a common tuning note on my flute when practicing alone or for whatever reason. Then I know C from vocal.

A lot of my self arrangements and compositions I figure out and write by doing intervals. I love intervals, I just love how you can learn them by comparing them to common songs. An octave or perfect 8th as Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Perfect 5th as Star Wars, Perfect 4th as Here Comes the Bride/ Amazing Grace, etc.

They test you on perfect pitch. Perfect Pitch is difficult to learn, not many people can master it.

It does in my book. And piano and flute? That's definitely talent. I'm mainly excelled on my major instrument- being the flute, and then when it comes to anything else, I'm just now really working on them. But piano, flute, and voice oh my. That's awesome :D

You do? when Its hot outside I don't wear black but when Its not I wear something close to black but not all the time though :p
