Here's where you can put any type of playthrough challenge for other people to try.

Note: These are meant to make the game harder. Lots of the challenges are the same in each game.

Note: I will not include any sort of Superboss challenge in my list. I do not know them and will never try them. Superbosses are supposed to be a challenge all on my own.

Note: While completely optional, these challenges are meant as a fun thing to do if you're bored and have already beaten the game.

Note: My list will have only the FF games I have played. So don't ask something like "Where's FFVI?" or anything like that.

With all these notes out of the way, let's begin.

    All FF:
Solo run through: Use only one character throughout the entire game. And you are not allowed to strengthen the other characters in any sort of way. What's the point of using only one character if you strengthen the others? Oh, and for FFX specifically, this includes not being allowed to customize weapons for characters that would in any way affect the battle for the solo character.

EDIT: I just remembered. For the Solo Run, that also means that if the character you chose to go solo with dies during any battle, that means Game Over and you must start again

No items: Get from point A to point B without being able to restore HP (MP in case you have Cure), dead characters, or status ailments (Poison and other status ailments like it start to hurt after a while)

    No magic.

No summons: Applies to certain games more than others.

No using better weapons than what you start with.

No escaping: Try doing that with the Solo Character challenge using a character who can't hit (I'm looking at you Auron).

Time attack: How quick can you beat it? Try for a faster time next time. For extra fun, include play time that involves game overs.

    FFVII:

    No Materia.

Use the weapons you start with.

No limit breaks: I know that is a little bit difficult to do since they remove your regular attack option when the meter fills up. Is there a way to get rid of the meter without using the attacks?

No Golden Saucer (Except during storyline events): Not really a challenge. More like a limitation on another challenge.

No sidequest: Once again, more like a limitation. But it does keep you from getting good things.

    FFVIII:
Constantly level up: Sounds stupid, I know. But because of the game mechanics of VIII, it gets harder the more you level up.

No magic: Not too difficult, right?

No junctioning: My favorite challenge. Game becomes dang near impossible if included with the constantly leveling up challenge. Even better if you include the Solo Character challenge.

No upgrading weapons: Main reason? Look for the game breakers thread. But it really is only a limitation.

Minimum AP gain: I think it can turn to 'No AP Gain' if the forced fights don't include AP, and you run from every other fight.

No limit breaks: In all reality, this is only a limitation to another challenge, such as the No Junctioning challenge. And it is mainly for Squall.

    FFX:
No Sphere Grid: Don't use the Sphere Grid. Ever. Don't even think about using the Sphere Grid. Try combining that with the Solo Character challenge.

Stay in your Sphere Grid: Simple. You can do anything you want in the character's portion except go into an area that leads to another character's area. That means you cannot use the level 3 key spheres at the end to continue your stat growth. And, in Kimarhi's case that means no level 1 key spheres. But look at the bright side, only Kimarhi gets to use Ultima.

Further Sphere Grid limitations: Really obvious. Limit yourself to using only red spheres (The ones that activate the stat spheres), or something like it. Could include things like no abilities, no stat growth, etc.

No weapon/armor customization: If you're feeling risky, don't customize either.

No using No Encounters: Limitation for the Solo Character or No Sphere Grid challenges.

    No Celestial Weapons.

    FFXII:
122333: This challenge is about the levels. I don't know if it is supposed to be this way, but all the videos I've seen of this challenge is keeping Vaan at level 1, Balthier and Fran at level 2, and Basch Ashe and Penelo at level 3.

No Licence Board: Try doing that in the 122333 challenge.

And that is all I can think of. Feel free to put any other challenge you can think of. Please try and think of something different than what I already put up.

I've done the FFX No Sphere Grid challenge. It's actually not as hard as you'd think it would be. I've beaten the storyline bosses and almost all of the monster arena bosses. What would be a harder challenge for X is No Sphere Grid, No Overdrives. Without Rikku's Mix, you'd find yourself in trouble.

Here's a challenge that I had made up for FFXII

Play the game only as Vaan, Ashe, & Penelo without the usage of quickenings.
Do not collect the baskets or chests that be laying around the area that have items or gil in it at all. NEVER!

How is that a challenge? The chests hardly ever have anything good in 'em.

Actually, I don't think the first half of what you said is much of a challenge either. The quickenings do not do that much damage. As long as you could still learn abilities and boost stats, it wouldn't make a whole lot of difference.

Yeah. I rarely use Quickenings anymore anyways. Unless you can do the Black Hole conucrrence (sp?), they just waste magic better spent on Curaja or Renew

Maybe I'll try it. But the hardest I can think of is using Auron only. And keeping him in his portion of the Sphere Grid. Mainly because he can't hit half the enemies in the game on his own.

??? What the heck? I've put down more stuff than what was on my post. Did it get deleted?

Edit: Never mind. I was thinking of a different thread by you Desert.

I think that Auron is probably the hardest single character challenge, for that reason, though his higher hp would be a help. And it probably is a harder challenge than the one I mentioned, but combining an NSG game with no overdrives would still be no picnic, either.

No sphere grid, no overdrives, no summons would be close to impossible, I'm thinking. Though no doubt someone's done it.
