The lead singer of the band, Chris Martin, stated that the album is a love story- the two protagonist living in an obsessive, dystopian, urban environment. The Band- Coldplay - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Coldplay is a British band formed in 1996. The band main genre is alternative rock, however they have explored several styles of music an example of the acoustic and electronic variation in their most recent album, Mylo Xyloto. The band had started when Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland were at a college week orientation at University College London. They spent the rest of the year planning a band. At first they started out just playing small gigs across town. In 1998 they released 500 copies of Safety EP, most of which were given to record companies and friends. Only about 50 were sold to the public. That same year the band was signed to independent recording company Fierce Panda. The band was inspired by U2 and R.E.M. In their early stages they promised to be a democracy group(money shared equally among all of them) and that anybody who used "Hard Drugs" would be fired from the band. The band took off in 1999 with their album "Parachutes". The rest was history.

The music of this band is meant to express their emotions and feelings- writing songs upbeat and bouncy to calming and relaxing. The band had originally thought that they would quit after they all turned 33, they however did not follow through with this as lead singer Chris Martin is 34. The band have admitted they would not be breaking up any time soon and it'll probably take a whole lot before they do break up. The band has outlive famous British band, The Beatles, by doube(The Beatles were together for 10 years where as Coldplay has been together for 16 years).

The band has a total of five studio albums: Parachutes(1999/2000), A Rush of Blood to the Head(2002), X&Y(2005), Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends(2008), and Mylo Xyloto(2011).

    Members-

    Jonny Buckland- guitar, backing vocals
Guy Berryman- bass guitar, backing vocals
Will Champion- drums, percussion, backing vocals

    Review-

I meant to write this back in November, however lacked the time and motivation to spend time typing out all of this. I find Mylo Xyloto a great album, it's as I feel an album that appeals to the younger crowd much more than some of their other albums which featured only a few songs that I felt appealed to the younger audience(I nonetheless though love this band). I love the different styles contributed into the album.

Personally my favorite songs on the album would have to be either Princess of China(love the duet song featuring Rihanna), Charlie Brown, and Every Teardrop is a Waterfall.

I would highly recommend this album to anybody.

So who has listened to their newest album? What is your favorite song?

Honestly, I've never been a huge supporter of Coldplay. I find Chris Martin to be an extremely terrible lyricist, and Mylo Xyloto failed to change my opinion on the lyrics. However, I will say this about Coldplay: aesthetically, they are almost always spot-on. Their music always sounds nice, but it's often difficult for me to get past the lyrics and actually enjoy their music for more than a few songs at a time. I also enjoy how they always try to do something different with each album. That approach is not something that I find very often in contemporary music.

With that said, this isn't a bad album. Not great, but not bad. To me, "Major Minus" is the standout song.

I can agree with the lyrics. At times they seem random. I however don't often listen to lyrics, but rather the music itself.

For me, the lyrics are a huge part of the music. Unless you're an instrumental band like Explosions in the Sky, you can make the most amazing sounding album, but if the lyrics aren't anywhere near as good as the music itself, it takes away from the band.
