Current Events Section

    Now I realize I could just bring this up to staff in person as being staff, but I'd rather see if other members shared the same idea or if they had anything to share.


    At the current moment, the site does not have a "World News" sort of section, but we have just about everything else under the sun. It got me thinking, and also World Culture class current event discussion got me thinking, this could be an interesting section to add to the site.

    You think about it for example the events that happened in Egypt recently was big in the U.S. but what about opinions in other countries and views in other countries, plus what about people who are actually there(though seeing as Egypt internet is/was shut down, I have no idea how many Egyptian members are active at present moment) but imagine hearing the news from somebody actually there.

    I think it be interesting and maybe a learning experience, I know, gotta include learning :rolleyes:. I know, now being required to actually pay attention to current events for a class, would be excited about this.

    How about others? Opinions, thoughts, feedback?

    I think it would be a great addition to the site, like "Real Life," "World Discussion," or something along those lines. It's always interesting to hear other's opinions or perspectives on these events, and maybe even give advice or help people who are actually experiencing it or hear their story. I think every forum should have a section or topic about it.

    I agree, I think this would be a great addition. The only time I hear about current events on this site is if someone creates a debate about it in the Debates Section. Since we have a lot of members who are from different countries it would bring us together to hear about the events that go on where we live, like a Global Village (got that term from my communications professor :D)

    Wouldn't this kind of fall into the general discussion section? I know people tend to use it more for less serious topics, but it should be about more than that.

    I don't see a harm in having a world discussion section, or something of the sort, yet I can't really see it being used. I dunno, who else has an interest?

    Such a section would've helped me if I was still in High School. But as for my opinion, I think it would probably be better in the debate section. Since each current event would have the purpose of being discussed, and somewhere down the line people are gonna disagree and debate about said event.

    But world events don't always have to be a debate right?

    i think Destiny is right. this could be a great addition. for me, i never watch the news(blame Fox news) so i never know what's going on in the world. if we had a world discussions section, i could be more informed easily. but this is a personal thing, but im sure other people might feel the same

    I believe having a section called 'Current Events' or 'World Events' is a good idea also.

    I'm currently taking a course called 'World Issues' (I take the course in French, but same difference) and I find it's absolutely interesting. I love hearing updates about what's happening throughout the world, but also looking into conflicts that are occurring in Canada. None of the Canadian ones are too major, except for those between Canada and the U.S.A.

    I also find that some things that are happening in the world can be one sided, or quite difficult to debate about. Since it doesn't really make sense to have a thread where everyone agrees with one another it only seems right for it to possibly have it's own spot on the forums.

    Well, enough people seem interested, so I'll make a section for it, within the General Discussion area. But I better see it being used, people! Too many of the current sections are inactive as it is.

    sometimes i just feel like talking about the world whether it be politics, economy, or just current events.
