Does Roxas's continued survival cheapen his sacrifice?

    SPOILERS BELOW!!!

At the end of the prologue to Kingdom hearts II it seemed Roxas was going to face oblivion, but accepted it as his fate, even if he wasnt overly eager.

Yet its pretty clear given not only his ghostly appearance along side namine at the end of the game... but in his appearence in Dream drop distance and recoded, that hes not totally dead.

PErsonally I find the thought of him being able to survive as a separate person, cheapenes his scene of sacrafice at the end of the prologue, and makes His theme song seem pointless.

Oblivion? It didn't seem that way to me.

How is it clear? If I remember correctly, they were happy to be whole again without having to fade back into darkness.

What prologue are you talking about? Do you mean when Roxas says that his summer vacation is over or...

    Thats the one.

Sora goes most of the game not knowing he owes his life to someone who never existed.

Um... I think you got it the wrong way.

    1. Roxas wasn't facing oblivion. The valid answer is that Roxas is going to make Sora whole again by becoming a part of Sora once again.

    2. How in the world does Sora owes his life to Roxas? Please explain. Last time I checked, Roxas is half of Sora.

    3. Roxas is still a separate person... literally. Not really a sacrifice and theme songs do not have anything to what is going on except bring in some emotions.

    Summoner pretty much answered it.

Roxas doesn't really do anything for Sora nor does he face oblivion. In the end, Roxas realized that it was time to become Sora again.

Well, I think Summoner and Angel have a point in that Roxas was going back to where he belonged, as opposed to facing oblivion, but at the same time, with Roxas realizing his "summer vacation is over," the scene was played out as sad, so I don't think TearfulVentus is too far off the mark in interpreting it in that way.

And I don't have a clue what's going on in this story anymore, but if there does become a way that Roxas and Sora can both function as separate, whole people, then I also agree with TearfulVentus on that being a bit of a cheap move.

Well, the way I took the comment was that Sora would never have awakened if Roxas didn't rejoin him, correct? Roxas could have fought his fate, wanting to stay a nobody and to hell with his somebody, but he chose to accept it. And so Sora was able to open his eyes and live to fight another day.
