Domain Name Change?

    Would you guys be for a domain name change? For those who don't know, a domain is a name given to a website. Our's is khplanet.com. I'm asking would you guys be okay with a different domain. Of course, I would keep the khplanet.com domain and you could still type in khplanet.com in your browser and still wind up at the site. It would just have a new name. Thoughts?

    History lesson: khplanet.com used to be kh-3.net. But you old folkies knew that.

    Personally, I don't like the name. I'd rather pick something that accurately represents the site.

    If I remember correctly, the reason we changed the name to khplanet in the first place was the result of a dispute among the staff. Some wanted to change it to cover all things square Enix so it was almost named "squareearth" However a majority of the members wanted to keep the website Kingdom Hearts themed. As a result khplanet was more of a compromise. I'm not sure anyone was ever really in love with it

    I see.

    I don't get the weird planet theme (earth/planet) though. It's just odd.

    I also remember a similar discussion about changing to a square enix site (before I was admin) but I was against it.

    Awesome, I've just been thinking about this for some time. Aside from my personal opinion about the name, it's a good idea to rebrand the site into something more identifiable

    I voted "indifferent" yesterday, but never had a chance to post a reply. I'm not crazy about "KH Planet", and I never much liked "kh-3.net", either, so I don't have any nostalgia tying me to these names. I don't think you should choose a new name that sounds too similar to other, bigger KH forums, but other than that, I'm good if you change it, or if you decide to leave the name alone.

    Hmmm. KHP it holds like a place in my heart but i can see where you're coming from. KHinformer is too close to KHI KHinsider. if we re-brand i'm all for it though. it'll be refreshing and something to do. as long as its square or KH related i'm game. let's do it.

    Do we want to keep ourselves at a KH-focused core? Or would be looking to expand our horizons to cover more SE/general gaming topics? I kinda feel like the latter may prove... somewhat better for business... But then, I don't know what other sites are out there for SE or a broader gaming topic. Though in my travels I haven't found many as of yet.

    Tbh I wouldn't advise a KH core. Whether it's due to the forum format dying out or otherwise it's no illusion that Kh forums are almost dead. KHI holds a max of between 30 to 40 usually, KH13 a bit higher, KHvids 13 maybe and so on. Any other site is usually in a foreign language or a sub forum on another site.

    At least that's all I've found in google searches or in travels of my own. Remembering 07 or 08 and older when things thrived it's kinda apparent the Kh-focused forum isn't, as you mention, business wise.

    I'm not staff or anything though soooo take it how you will.

    That's because KH, on its own, is pretty much a declining topic of interest. There's some buzz now that more KH3 stuff has been reaching the public, and there may be a surge of activity on some forums once it's finally released. But after that, things will probably lull substantially; that, and I doubt that we'll get very much of the traffic from it, relative to other sites that have been more consistent for longer.

    That's the thing really. I was on a number of sites for years and each time a new game appeared it did raise the activity a bit, sometimes even to original levels, but each time after the hype ended it died quicker and quicker. It's not so much about age of forum anymore (some are gone entirely now) it's just KH's fanbase.

    I was told forums in general are dying off a bit as well so add that too the KH fandom/series and it's apparent why.
