Faye Wong to Perform at CCTV Gala



Faye Wong is best known to fans of the Final Fantasy franchise as the person who brought them to tears with the song "Eyes on Me" from Final Fantasy VIII. And throughout her career, she has been a welcome guest in the annual Spring Festival Gala aired each year on China Central Television (CCTV). Every year, CCTV puts on a big show similar to the New Year's Eve shows you might see in the west. In fact, it is the biggest show seen by the most people at one time. I don't remember what year it set the record, but believe me, it is bigger than the Super Bowl (and more entertaining). Anyway, the show is so big that they often overbook acts. And CCTV is hesitant to even release the schedule of acts performing. This is because there is always a chance that an illness or accident will occur during the run up of the program, and as they always say, "The show must go on!"

Now, this also means that some acts don't get to be seen during the program, and thus, are stuck waiting in the wings. However, that doesn't seem to be a problem for the "Eyes on Me" songstress Faye Wong. No, it is said that she will be returning for this year's Gala. She first stepped onto the Gala stage in 1998. After that, she returned in 2010, and then in back-to-back years of 2012 and 2013. Below are the appearances she made that I could find online.

The rumors for this year, as in every year that Faye is set to perform, is that it will be a duet with Na Ying (the person she sung with back in 1998, featured above). While I would love for that to happen, I also kind of hope that she'll perform "Eyes on Me" again. I think a Chinese version of that would sound extremely nice! But what do you think?
