Heartless - Kingdom Hearts Wiki - A world of information not accessible by Gummiship
Above link explains most of what I'm talking about

Heartless consume world by world until they have enough hearts and move on to the next world.

Sora, Riku and Kairi were born in some world near Destiny Islands. For some strange reason Sora was chosen to wield the Keyblade after Destiny Islands got attacked by Heartless.
The Keyblade prevents Heartless from destroying worlds, but also is a burden on the wielder.

After defeating Ansem's Heartless and rescuing Kairi, Sora became a Heartless himself and when Kairi's heart bonded with Sora's he got his heart back.
This is when I'm assuming Roxas was created, he was Sora's Nobody after he turned into a Heartless and lost his heart at Hollow Bastion.

Roxas was used by Ansem's Nobody, Xemnas, to work for Organization XIII and collect hearts from Heartless and complete Kingdom Hearts.

Sora attacks Castle Oblivion and defeats Xemnas, but I don't remember what happened as a result.

    This is where I'm confused.

    1. Why is Kingdom Hearts in the World That Never Was?
    2. What's the significance of the final boss in KH1, when you go to End of the World?
    3. Did Mickey do something to Sora sometime after KH1, or who was it that got Sora to stay asleep with DiZ and Namine?
    4. Isn't Ansem 100% responsible for the existence of Heartless? Something about his research notes and from what I remember, I think he's the entire reason there's a Kingdom Hearts in the first place.
    5. Why the crap does Riku turn into Ansem?

    1. Why is Kingdom Hearts in the World That Never Was?
It's not the real kingdom hearts, it's a kingdom hearts that Xemnas made

    2. What's the significance of the final boss in KH1, when you go to End of the World?
The final boss in KH1 is the real boss, Ansem(in truth is actually Xehanort's heartless) Defeating him leades to the story line of KH CoM and KH2

    3. Did Mickey do something to Sora sometime after KH1, or who was it that got Sora to stay asleep with DiZ and Namine?
Namine kept him asleep, Namine and the organization are the one who put Sora to sleep, which in return created the birth of Roxas. Namine and Diz though rescued Sora, but he wouldn't be able to awaken until he got his memory back from Roxas.

    4. Isn't Ansem 100% responsible for the existence of Heartless? Something about his research notes and from what I remember, I think he's the entire reason there's a Kingdom Hearts in the first place.
Nobody really knows, it hasn't even truly been revealed yet.

    5. Why the crap does Riku turn into Ansem?
Riku becomes Ansem/ Xehanort because in KH1 he submitted himself to darkness and Ansem/ Xehanort's heartless didn't have a body and he took over Riku's body. Even after Sora defeated Ansem, part of the darkness from Ansem stayed behind in his heart. So Riku could defeat Roxas to awaken Sora, Riku had to use that darkness and let it out which in exchange made his appearence turn into Ansem/ Xehanort, just so his friends wouldn't know though he took on the name Ansem.

I responded to each, but essentially I kind of understand, I just need to play CoM...

    1. There must have been a Kingdom Hearts in the first game, then. The big white door where Kairi tries to reach Sora but she can't, and Mickey is there.
    2. Xehanort's heartless was just weird, I guess he controlled the emblem Heartless and that's why you fight him, going to Destiny Islands before he's beaten just confuses me.
    3. Chain of Memories would probably help me understand who Namine even is. I get the Organization but not Namine, and in some ways not even really Roxas.
    4. Okay, that's why I didn't mention Xehanort, I forgot about him since he's essentially Ansem if there were no DiZ. Reminds me of the world right before Space Paranoids.
    5. Yeah this is what I mean, Xehanort was one of DiZ (Ansem) right hand men until they betrayed him and Xehanort became Xemnas. You read about this and what I mentioned about Ansem being responsible for Heartless, or at least feeling responsibility after testing the power of the heart or something.

I read somewhere that in Kingdom Hearts, there are three essential parts of the individual character.

    Heart, body, soul

A heartless lost its own heart, but retains its soul.
Its nobody has no heart, just the body, and I guess its own soul.

Oh, I'm hoping Chain of Memories also explains who Namine is, at first I thought she was Kairi's Nobody but now it seems she has more to do with Xion.

Yes, but now the way we view it in KH2 and how it is on the cover. The big white door is Kingdom Hearts, and I've never understood this, but the door in the secret place also has a connection to Kingdom Hearts.

    2. Xehanort's heartless was just weird, I guess he controlled the emblem Heartless and that's why you fight him, going to Destiny Islands before he's beaten just confuses me.
That one heartless is Xehanort's heartless, guardian I guess you can call it in a giant form

    3. Chain of Memories would probably help me understand who Namine even is. I get the Organization but not Namine, and in some ways not even really Roxas.
Yes, CoM will help a lot. Then for Roxas and Namine, KH 358/2 Days will help you

Hollow Bastion/ Radiant Garden. That's where the real Ansem studied with his apprentince, Xehanort, studying hearts

He felt responcible a lot, but it's unknown.

All of this is on the KH Wiki page on Heartless

    1. You're talking about the "secret place" on Destiny Islands, in the cave? That's where I think Ansem talks to Sora and tells him he's "the one who will open the door."
    2. Yes, Sora saved Riku from Xehanort's Heartless by defeating him, got to Kingdom Hearts and locked it with his keyblade or something.
    3. I always thought Roxas had more to do with Sora than the Organization gave him credit for, since he's the real Nobody of Sora. You said they created him, but also I thought Twilight Town was made by DiZ so Namine could piece back together Sora's memories. I know Xion was created by Vexen, and she has a lot to do with the memories part.
    4. Xehanort kept experimenting with hearts after Ansem deemed it too dangerous, Xehanort killed everyone and took over Radiant Garden, he made emblem heartless with a machine that automatically consumed hearts with darkness. Maleficent renamed Radiant Garden into Hollow Bastion when she was being used by the Heartless, Xehanort's Heartless turns Maleficent into the black dragon and etcetera. Then Uncle Scrooge gets to sell ice cream or something in KH2.
    5. I was talking about how he got exiled to the Realm of Nothingness, basically, which is why Ansem calls himself DiZ

Thanks for your help, also Chain of Memories and the new Birth by Sleep are the only two I haven't played and completed. Also it was kind of dumb for me to finish Kingdom Hearts 2 first, in retrospect.

    1. Why is Kingdom Hearts in the World That Never Was?
Kingdom Hearts isn't in the World That Never Was. It was just opened there by Xemnas.

    2. What's the significance of the final boss in KH1, when you go to End of the World?
Well the significance of going to the End of The World was to connect all the worlds back. Basically, Sora and the gang restored all the worlds that were lost. Plus sora wanted to try to rescue riku from Xehanorts heartless
    3. Did Mickey do something to Sora sometime after KH1, or who was it that got Sora to stay asleep with DiZ and Namine?
Sora went to sleep because Naimine rearragned his memories in CoM, to put them back together Sora had to go to sleep for her to put them back where they belong.

    4. Isn't Ansem 100% responsible for the existence of Heartless? Something about his research notes and from what I remember, I think he's the entire reason there's a Kingdom Hearts in the first place?
He was responsible for creating the first Heartless, but we are unsure because the timeline doesn't really add up.

    5. Why the crap does Riku turn into Ansem?
Ansem (Xehanort's Heartless), took control of riku's body/heart. When riku got his body bag Xehanort's heartless remained in riku's heart. So when riku turned to the darkness in his heart for power he basically took on the form of Xehanort's heartless. This also explains the blindfold, he wore it because his eyes couldn't deny darkness.
