Answer Man Man I'm Awesome

well i was thinking for the people that have watched one piece, in the new episodes luffy said that some physical attacks hurt but he's rubber so there not supposed to. so i was wondering all the other attacks he's been dealt have never hurt him even thought his eyes have went all white before, and he's been bandaged and even held his stomach, so why is he saying these other attacks aren't supposed to hurt? i dont understand it.
