It's cruel and pointless, people hate other people of different races for being who they are. I think it's just plain stupid

Racism is were a person treats someone as less than human for stupid reasons such as skin color or origins. Those that practice racism are more like animals themselves.

Depends on how you use it these days. Honestly, today friends gather about and are able to make simple racist jokes towards each other. You have your "it's funny because it's true" jokes but probably would not say it when a stranger is about. People are conscious about it still but appear to be more flexible about it than they did years ago.

There's this book called Nigger (-___- I hope Raiden don't ban me for saying that) written by a black man that tells about how a black person or the whole race was treated poorly. <.> What made me mad is when he wrote about a joke about how you can chase a black person with a bucket of KFC. My teacher is reading that now & after he gets done with it, I'm going to read it.

Racist jokes are amusing as long as your not being serious, my best mate is black and we burn the shit outa him sometimes for a laugh. He's cool with it so its all alright.

Real racism is a mess, cant really be dealt with though. People have different opinions and they cant easily be changed.

What annoys me is when people try so hard to make up for racism towards one group that they end up discriminating against another (for example, the tons of scholarships and financial aid for college available to minorities only).

I agree. I don't know that racism will ever coompletely disappear. People have their stereotypes and prejudices, and it's hard to get rid of them, even if you want to. And I think that in general, people like to classify things. And if you classify yourself in one group, you're always going to think a little better of that one.

Why would you be banned for giving the name of a book?

I was watching The Longest Yard on TNT one time. And it got to the library scene. You know, the one where the guards call the runningback a nigger. Anyways, the channel decides to censor that scene. Instead of saying nigger, they say negro. And that scene sounded so funny with negro.

Exactly. It just bugs me when there are those people who take jokes like those too seriously. But the people who are always playing the race card for everything really bugs me.

Yeah, that bugs me too. Although I've made some jokes concerning that to get into college. Since I'm part Native American, I've jokes saying I could say that is my race or whatever to get into college.

the race card is what bugs me, it's been over for about 60 70 years now, but everybody when there treated un fair by another race, they pull a race card, i think it's bull crap, anybody that is racist today your a dying breed, last the past die and long live the future. I say white jokes with one of my best friends, we both know i'm kidding, but when my teacher heres it i'm in trouble, stuff like that i think is just crap.

But there is still racism today, in america too, a lot more than ppl can see. The world is not free of it, cuz a lot of people in the world just dont or dont want to get along with others, cuz of what they heard, or what they've seen. In america, the white house is the biggest, why is it called the white house? cuz white ppl back then and now are full of themselves still (not all) everything in washington is white, the lincon memorial, that big log pointy thing with the water in front of it, the all white, and white ppl still run are goverment, yes there are mexicans and blacks or candaians, and the black prez dude there all breaking the race block in america but it wont fall to fast. now i might sound a little racist myself but i'm not, just a little strong on the subject.

Because it is painted white? *facepalm*

Hardly. People might not be as vocal about it as they were in the past, but racists are hardly a dying breed.

What are your thoughts about a black president? (Yeah, it's Obama)

I don't care what race the president is, as long as he or she does a good job.

Specifically about Obama, I have no clue if he's doing all he promised or not, since I really don't follow what goes on in Washington. But things seem little different for me than they did while Bush was in office, so I don't think he's quite the miracle he was hyped to be. *shrugs*

This is mainly what bugs me, the race card. Derived from the wild card, but with negroes instead. I don't believe that every negroe is the same, but some will intantly say that somebody is racist, then use that as an excuse, despite the fact they've probablies said something about the white person.

i treat racism as discrimination, however you spell it, and i disaprove all discrimination

i am a form of discrimination by some people, but not racial discrimination

i hope you know what i meant

EDIT: we dont call black people negroes anymore, just african-american (or afro-american)
and to friends of other races, like to people that are used to it, just black person

about the race card, some are actualy victims of racism on their past

Why do people use the term African-American? This actually makes no sense to me. If you were born in America, you're a plain old American, end of story. My ancestors came from Germany, among other places, but I don't call myself a German-American or European-American. Not to mention that some of the people who call themselves African-Americans could actually trace their ancestors to some place like Jamaica long before they'd find a connection to Africa.

The reason why they use the term African-American is because our blood & roots came from Africa. Even though we're born in America, our ancestors came from Africa. As for me though, I'm not sure. My grandmommy told me that my great- grandmommy was part half Blackfoot (That's a Indian tribe.) Same if you're German or European. Even if you're born in America, you're real native blood came from that country that those before you came. That's what I think anyways.

I'm not trying to offend anyone, but it really makes no sense to me why someone would want to be called "African-American", when it's been so long since anyone from the family has been from Africa (generally), and when they (at least, that I have observed) have no real idea of the culture or background of any of the countries on that continent, or even know which one their folks may have come from. And as I mentioned in my last post, not everyone put under that blanket term fits it. But I guess that's the politically correct term to use now, even if it's not literally correct for some?

To me, the term "African-American" should refer to either someone who immigrated from a country in Africa and became a US citizen, but didn't want to forget about their heritage, or someone who had one parent who was a citizen of the US and another who was a citizen of a country in Africa, though in both cases, it really should be more like Egyptian-American or Kenyan-American (country-specific). *shrugs*

Plain old Americans should just be called Americans. But I guess only people considered white get to be called that without a qualifier.

Is this an issue in any other country?

What I find really annoying is when race is used as an excuse to get out of trouble or make trouble for someone else. What I'm talking about is mainly to do with the police. I can think of a local example when an African-American got in trouble with the law and the police had to come out (he was beating the hell out of his girlfriend in front of her kids, if you were wondering). In the case that I'm thinking of, the suspect put up a fight and started attacking the police. But the minute the police started defending themselves, the suspect's family came out with shouts of "Police brutality" and allegations of misconduct because of prejudice against the suspect's race. The officers that had arrived at the scene were not even all white, either. Now, in some cases, I'm sure the suspect is justified in complaining about mistreatment. But does it have to be an issue all the time?

i dont like that either, i mean your African, you might be born in America but you have no American blood in you, just African sometimes, of course your mixed with other things too. But if all didnt no American is a title meant for ppl that came to the new world called brave ppl or something around there, and those ppl were mostly European.

The hell, I have born in Finland and yet I have some Russian blood in my family tree. Usually the Finnish folk call the Russians as "ryssä" (the term has been in Finland for ages, it's an insult of sorts), yet eveen that they know it, I'm not being treated as one, only sometimes I encounter a situation where I'll hear it.

When you speak of a person that he's Africa-American, why don't use the name instead or simply "that guy over there".

If you've born in a country, you're that country's citizen. Toph maybe made a more clearer explanation, but I don't just like it when people are called by where their ancestors came from. I wouldn't want that kind of treatment since it isn't the very nicest in Finland towards the Russians.

It'd be different if the people were knowledgable about their ancestral country and were proud of the heritage. And I'm sure that there are some people called African-Americans who are. But from my observations, African-Americans generally don't seem to know any more about Africa than I do.

But it's really the fact that some of the people called African aren't from there, any more than anyone else is (since don't scientists think all of mankind originated there?), that is especially stupid to me.
