As you probably know many people dislike rap, I am one of them. All they do is talk about sex, drugs, Violence and how popular they are.

of course some people like it.

    What do you think?

I don`t mind cuss words usually but most rap songs use them every other word, And the have bad grammar and it sounds retarded.

I mean some are ok and catchy at times but thats like only .2 of the percentage of rap out there

I don't like the style for the most part. Even without the other stuff, I simply do not get that into the style. I prefer a melody. Just rhythm isn't as interesting to me.

But from a more intellectual point of view, and from my own knowledge of music and recording, it's just not intelligent. The beats are simplistic, and more often than not entirely to similar to each other. They require very little thought to come up with. Most people I know who have any interest in it can come up with a beat as good as any on a professional recording. And the lyrics are basically bubblegum music in a new package. The lyrics are often innane and about ridiculous things. I've heard rap songs about camera phones for cryin' out loud.

And then there is the simple issue of the less savory content. The one that basically shows how cool it is to take drugs in excess and shoot up people. And personally I don't care about the drugs near as much as the shooting part.

To me, it depends on the style. I like some rap songs but not a lot of them. I'm a feminist at heart, so a song about a guy taking home 4 or 5 women from a club and "banging" them is a bit sickening to me.
The violence, however, I'm a bit more lenient with because it's just a different style of singing/rhyming about violence.
For example, country, rock and rap can all do a song about battering, but they do it differently. Concrete Angel and Alyssa Lies come to mind for country songs and He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss) covers rock. I can't recall a rap song that deals with that subject but I would imagine that, due to the origins of the music, there would be one or two songs dealing with that subject. Same deal with drug use, rock does it (Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds to Heart-Shaped Box), rap does it differently.

Wow, hang on a bit. Not everyone likes t he same stuff, and there's no reason to get angry just because someone doesn't listen to the same stuff you do. There's a couple things to point out here.

First of all, how does not liking rap make us all emo? I'm not emo, nor am I overly crazy about emo music. I prefer to stay optimistic, and I'm more of a fan of classic rock. And while some of the other people here may be, that doesn't make them such because they don't like rap music. So let's not generalize about everyone based on music taste. And yes, I did catch the no offense in your post. I'm just making a point.

Next, while I can't speak for everyone else, I didn't say all rap music was crap. I said that the majority of mainstream rap doesn't do anything for me, both because of the thought and effort put into it, and because of some of it's content. I did not say that the music style was inherently bad, or the people who listened to it. My cousin happens to be a big fan of rap, though he's more into the underground stuff.

For that matter, most modern music has the same feel to me. I don't like much of what's coming out currently. As I said, I'm into classic rock and generally older artists in most genres. Music at that time, in my opinion, was more intelligent. More intuitive. Artists were discovering new technologies and new effects. They experimented with things and made some really cool stuff. And beyond that, the music itself was far more intricate, and I've always been a fan of that.

I don't have much rap in my collection, but that's mostly because, as I said, I prefer melody to rhythm, and therefore prefer more melodic styled music to the more rhythmic sound of rap. However, that's not to say I have anything against rap, or would refuse to enjoy a song that I liked just because I didn't like rap. In fact, one of the songs in my collection is Eminem's "When I'm Gone" simply because the first time I heard it, I stopped everything I was doing just to listen. Any song that can make me do that, regardless of genre, deserves a spot in my collection.

I never meant to be vulgar to towards rap music in general or to those who listen to it. And if it has done some good to you, than bravo. I can understand the reaction you had. I tend to hear feel the same way when I hear people bashing video games, for the same reason. I'm just saying, you don't have to get all offended because of something like this. This is of course, a debate, and with all of the people who, for the most part, seem not to like rap, the opposing viewpoint is always welcome. But just try to stay calm. If everyone always agreed, this would hardly be much of a debate now would it.

Rap is the 2nd weirdest music I have ever heard, German music is the first (no offense). But I don't l like rap because all it is is talk about sex, drugs, money, gangs, guns, violence (don't mind the last one, you can't exactly listen to Nine Inch Nails and expect there not to be a little violence.) But I really don't care for rap, if I'm at a dance I'll dance to it but that's about it. Everywhere else I'm listening to my music to get the rap out of my head.

So I take it your going to go Super Saiyan?

People have opinions, learn to accept that others have different choices of music, to cut the "long paragraph short". No one insulted Rap or Hip Hop for the matter, so calm the **** down.

Even if someone did insult Rap, you shouldn't get angry, he doesn't represent the "opinions of the world".

Rap is another form of music. I can't stand it, but I don't hate it, I find it too monotone at times, I don't listen to it, but I won't insult it. It's -after all- a form of music.

A debate isn't about insulting a certain topic. In this case it's about ones Personal Opinions on it. Don't go "oh we r insulting rap so go away", because it ain't true, no one should be dissing rap.

OK, first, if you don't feel like reading long responses, what are you doing in a debate. The best responses are long. It means the person had a lot to say. And I think if you read the whole response, you might have made some sense out of it. Not to mention that not reading the entire response is rather hypocritical of you when you accuse me of not reading yours. But you seem to be determined to be angry, so now, rather than trying to calmly debate, I'm going to go all strict mod on you.

Guidelines were posted for debates. Those guidelines said to remain civil. That topics were likely to come up where viewpoints you didn't like were likely to be expressed and that you should remain civil despite this. It also said to always add something meaningful to the discussion. So far, you have done neither of these things. You have simply been angry and yelled at everyone cause they don't like rap and they said why. It's a debate. If we didn't say why we disliked it, we wouldn't be saying much other than "I don't like rap." Much like you don't seem to be saying much other than "I love rap and people saying bad things about it pisses me off".

If you want to post here, tell us why you like rap. Make some good points about it, and make them civilly. If you can't do that, then don't post in this debate at all. Post in a topic where you can remain civil. If you continue to post here in the same manner in which you have posted up until now, further action will be taken.

Now let's continue to have a good debate please.

OK, I'm ending this argument. The argument stops now. I tried to end it civilly, and it did not seem to work. So action has been taken. Let's continue the debate, but if there are any more posts that continue this particular argument, they will be deleted and infractions will be given out.

So back to the debate. All opinions are welcome, as long as you can express them and still remain nice.

    Thank you.

    Interesting...

Anyway. Back when i liked R&B i didn't like Rap, so pretty much i never could stand rap even though the music type that i liked back then was or is related to R&B. Now I listen to music that I appreciate and can stand.

Rap is just a no no for me. I would say the reasons but someone may get mad:p

I voted "don't care", because there wasn't an option to describe me. I dislike much of the lyrics in rap songs. But not all rap is about booty-shaking baby mamas. And I do like the instrumental part of even those crappy, degrading songs. I'll catch myself humming along to a song that's totally moronic and degrading because it has a catchy beat.

Well in my oppinion some racismn comes from rap music.

Personally, I like some of the genre of music, but not all of it. I'm more into the rock bands of Three Day's Grace and Breaking Benjamin. But enough of that the topic is about rap.

Rap in our society is poetry and art but more like slandering. Rap is usually about whores, hoes, prostitutes, gangs, and the phrase of "I get money." Rap in my oppinion is complete idiocy. Though not all of it is, let me get that out of they way as well.

Rap began as just a funny little rhyme and now is big in our societies today. My mother told me that it used to be just all about funny events and items, like the "Humpty Dumpty" rap, but now it's about "The Hood" and nonsence like that.

Now comes to my point of racismn. Mostly Hispanic people bash it because it's about stuff like I said above, but not only that because it sometimes portrait the white man, as a bad person, or police. But I praise the police and their fine work trying to keep our streets safe from criminals like the people who sing this junk.
