Relationships in High School

I just finished reading this book called Forever by Judy Blume. It's a really good book, and after I finished reading it, it made me think of relationships in high school. For those of you who have never read or heard of this book, it's about a girl and a guy in high school who start dating and claim they're in love and will be together forever. But as the story goes on and they get more serious, they start to realize that they want different things out of the relationship, and just how long "forever" really is. So my question is, do you guys think that teens these days should be seriously dating, or should they wait until they get older to have serious relationships?

I'm really iffy about things like this.

For example, me. I'm single. I've thought of many reasons why. I want to date for love, not just for some kind of fling that is over within a year. And I know that relationships in highschool rarely work after highschool. My parents dated in highschool and married when my mom was either 20 or 21. They got divorced when I was 8 or 9. So, I think that it depends on the situation of why the people are dating. I suppose dating to learn how to be in a good relationship might be a good reason.

Once again, I'm really iffy about these things.

I totally agree with you Desert. I've got several friends who actually think they'll be with their BF's and GF's forever and if they do break up, they're totally devastated. I personally don't want to put myself through that kind of pain, so I choose not to seriously date until I get to college. However, if a guy wants to treat me to a free day at the movies, I'm not gonna say no! :D

I say that kids try to get to serious. I'm in ninth grade and I've dated two girls. One for the expierience of dating, the other for homecoming. Still some kids in my grade say they are in love and that they will be with their gf/bf forever and will have shildren with them. Which brings me to also say that most guys in my grade want only sex from a relationship so I say it should wait until college.

I think it's too early for a relationship at high school.

Thank you Sora. I agree because mistakes can be made at that age.

No, it's not that. It's just that it causes teens to get really sad about relationships like asking a girl out and she says no back. That's happened to me once. There were two girls I really liked back in England. They asked me out but I turned them down. I thought I wasn't ready to go out on a date with a girl. If I did have a girlfriend, I'd definately not go serious. Just kissing and hugging, that would be it. Also at school dances, it makes me sick when the girls slide down the boy's body with her but. I find it gross.

See, that happened all the time at my school. All they did was date for popularity or for trying to have sex. It disgusts me.

I don't care anymore about relationships. Maybe in the future but not now. Relationships just complicate your life.

I agree... my ex girlfriend now spreads rumors around my school... I wish I hadn't dated.

you can probably tell by my name that i am a girl and as of the moment i have a boyfriend. Boyfriend being a very loose term. I am in the 9th grade. All the relationship is is hugging and kissing but i am not one of the girls in my grade that throws themselves at guys. I am not even friends with those girls. just showing that we arent all the same =]

I have only had one girlfriend, started on halloween before last.It lasted a while, but one:I'm lazy as hell 2: She is always pissed of as hell and 3: I knew after about 6 months it wasn't going to work out.I should have been the one to break it off,but I never did.She eventually did,and sometimes I wish we didnt go out so we could be friends again. But life doesnt work that way.Im going to wait till college before even trying again. And yes lots of people have relationships that ends up only being about sex. Some arent, though alot still do anyway.

Well I saw her about twice a week, any other day I was with friends. She got mad then broke up with me, We were cool with everything. Then we dated again for a day when I broke up with her because I wanted to focus on school, she cried and yelled at me for like 4 days.

I ask girls out because of their personality or kindness. The girl has to be a little attractive though.

Seriously even asking girls out can break relationships between people. I asked a girl out overhere and she never speaks to me anymore or she is really anxious while I'm around. It makes me sad and I shred a tear once in a while about it.

I know how you feel man. It can break people too. I asked a girl out and she said no, I was depressed for a month.
