While at work today I was listening to my lap top to avoid the horrors of country (shudders). This Linkin Park song popped up on me while I was waiting on a customer and I almost skipped over it because they have some objectionable lerics. However I had to take the customer and then the song hit my ears. It was Hands Held High from Minutes to Midnight. When the customer went away I listend to the lerics and said to myself, "Oh god. That song actually speaks out to me."

The first verse goes something like this,

Turn my mic up louder I got to say something
Light weights step to the side when we come in

Feel it in your chest the syllables get pumping
People on the street they panic and start running

Words on loose leaf sheet complete coming
I jump in my mind and summon the rhyme, I'm dumping

Healing the blind I promise to let the sun in
Sick of the dark ways we march to the drum and

Jump when they tell us that they wanna see jumping
Fuck that I wanna see some fists pumping

Risk something, take back what's yours
Say something that you know they might attack you for

Cause I'm sick of being treated like I have before
Like it's stupid standing for what I'm standing for

Like this war's really just a different brand of war
Like it doesn't cater the rich and abandon poor

Like they understand you in the back of the jet
When you can't put gas in your tank

These fuckers are laughing their way to the bank and cashing the check
Asking you to have compassion and have some respect

For a leader so nervous in an obvious way
Stuttering and mumbling for nightly news to replay

And the rest of the world watching at the end of the day
In their living room laughing like "what did he say?"

Yes there is some language but just look at those lerics real quick. in the official video shows a war zone in the middle east being super imposed by images of hitler during his rise to power. The world is pretty fragile but in the end it is only broken by the people who end up in power and do some unspeakable things. It all boils down to differences between you and me but are we really all that different?

    The chorus goes like this,

    Amen
    Amen
    Amen
    Amen
    Amen

Yes repeated Amens from a crowd in the back ground. You say amen to end a prayer and you also say it when you agree the with the guy on stage or the brother standing next to you. I think it is the former because the whole song sounds like a prayer to me. A prayer for the world to stop being so twisted and broken and for people to take a stand just like this guy did and try to make a difference instead of hiding behind the hate.

The second verse is what really hooked me.

In my living room watching but I am not laughing
Cause when it gets tense I know what might happen

World is cold the bold men take action
Have to react or get blown into fractions

Ten years old it's something to see
Another kid my age drugged under a jeep

Taken and bound and found later under a tree
I wonder if he had thought the next one could be me

Do you see the soldiers they're out today
They brush the dust from bullet proof vests away

It's ironic at times like this you pray
But a bomb blew the mosque up yesterday

There's bombs in the buses, bikes, roads
Inside your market, your shops, your clothes

My dad he's got a lot of fear I know
But enough pride inside not to let that show

My brother had a book he would hold with pride
A little red cover with a broken spine

On the back, he hand-wrote a quote inside
When the rich wage war it's the poor who die

Meanwhile, the leader just talks away
Stuttering and mumbling for nightly news to replay

And the rest of the world watching at the end of the day
both scared and angry like "what did he say?

How ironic is that when people need help they turn to god but we blow up their only place of prayer? Why in gods good name that we pick, of all targets, a mosque? That's the same as blowing a church up. We get so angry and upset when a church is attacked by a guy with a gun or if a church is blown to bits but we just watch a mosgue go up on the television and say it has nothing to do with us. That just isn't right and it's almost criminal. If you see a person dieing in the streets you would call the police but if you see that same guy on the television you just say he lives in another state and forget about him. We all do it, even me, but that is only letting our selves become desensitized.

Also this line was the biggest thing for me,
"My brother had a book he would hold with pride
A little red cover with a broken spine

On the back, he hand-wrote a quote inside
When the rich wage war it's the poor who die"

When the rich wage war it's the poor who die. Amen. It's true that the only people who end up on the front lines are the people that need the money. You wouldn't catch a rich guy on the front of the war because he's set for life and doesn't want to risk his butt shooting at people. Why should we wage war when none of us want that? Our leaders declare wars by getting the public all riled up but they couldn't if we as a nation didn't want to go to war. If a government official tried he'd find no soldiers who would be willing to go and people would riot and protest nation wide. If a ruler continues he's not a very smart one because that will only lead to his loss of power.

People we don't need war. We don't have the right to take someone elses land for oil or money. We spent so much time trying to grab land up for ourselves that we feel we need to control all the land. That isn't our right. The land rules us so maybe we should just share it. Humanity isn't going to last all that much longer. I don't like seeing kids injured in cross fires, or watching men and women try to defend their homes from soldiers that are coming after them. In Iraq we lose soldiers to civilian bombings. I don't blame the civilians because we are in a place we have no business being in in the first place.

Anyways that's just my thoughts. I won't change them and if you hate me for it then I guess that's your right. However I find people who don't want to do anything to help our nation to be despicable and sick. Thanks for reading.

I do not own this song or the lerics to it. I am analyzing them.
