So I told myself I would never watch this movie when it came out. I really am not much into the whole satanic posession thing. :/

My sister managed to convince me to watch the movie with her when I went to stay at her house a couple of nights ago. I really didn't watch the movie intently I suppose, we were talking through the whole thing but I figured I would put in my two cents about the film.

This movie is supposed to be uber scary and such but I couldn't help but look at the screen with this type of expression.

The movie is about a trial debating wether or not a priest, charged with the murder of a little girl named Emily Rose, was guilty or innocent. The movie goes through the trial with frequent flashbacks about Emily Rose and her struggles against the devil who randomly one day decided he was going to jump into some random chick's body for a joy ride.

The one thing I can say I was impressed with was some of the acting of the movie. Had I been put in Jennifer Carpenter's shoes I would not be able to act like a raving maniac like that without busting into laughter and some of the things she was doing in her little 'epasodes' looked extremely painful. She had some good moments.

As for the fact that its supposedly based on a true story, I highly doubt it. Wether or not you believe the devil exsists I seriously doubt that he spends his time flipping through the phone book trying to find people to posess all willy nilly. I'm sure, being the badass he is, he has a lot more to do then steal candy from baby girls such as Emily Rose. I'm not saying it isn't a true story. Its very possible that the person Emily Rose was based on was probably insane or skitzaphrenic. Either way would explain her untimely death in the middle of the exorsism. :/ Who knows.

So all in all, I thought it was kind of unrealistic and over dramatic.

Haha Jeenkies this movie was so not scary and lame, but the story is true. I'm not sure if she was possessed by a demon and what not, but its a true story. Anneliese Michel is the real person, her name wasn't emily rose.
Who diagonsed her as being possessed?
The first unofficial diagnosis was made by an older woman who accompanied Anneliese on a pilgrimage. She noticed that Anneliese avoided walking past a particular image of Jesus, and that she refused to drink water from a holy spring. The woman also claimed that Anneliese smelled hellishly bad (washingtonpost.com). An exorcist from a nearby town examined Anneliese and concluded that she was demonically possessed. After two failed requests, the rite of exorcism was finally granted by the Bishop.

Was Tom Wilkinson's character of Father Moore based on a real person?
Tom Wilkinson's character was more a combination of two real-life people, Father Arnold Renz and Pastor Ernst Alt (shown at left). Both men were assigned by the Bishop of Wurzburg, Josef Stangl, to carry out "The Great Exorcism" on Anneliese Michel. The foundation for this ritual was the "Rituale Romanum", which at the time, was still a valid 17th century Cannon Law. Father Arnold Renz had been a former missionary in China, and Pastor Ernst Alt was a pastor in a nearby community. Together they carried out 67 rites of exorcism over a period of 10 months, with one or two exorcism sessions held each week. Some sessions lasted up to four hours

Did Anneliese Michel really see the faces of demons on the people around her like Emily Rose did in the film?
According to The Washington Post, as she grew more convinced that she was possessed, Anneliese began to see the faces of demons on the people and things around her

So basically after reading all of this. The events didn't exactly happen like they said it did in the movie. There were some twist and turns, to make the movie seem more scary than the actual story.
