No. Tarzan is under copyright of Edgar Burroughs since Disney didn't have permission and wasn't able to secure the copyrights. They were not able to include Tarzan in the game.

I don't think that both companies will be able to do much with Tarzan anyways.

What Angel said is what I've also heard whenever this has been brought up. Although it's odd to me that Disney/S-E would get permission to put Tarzan into one game, and then not be able to get permission to use him again. Unless they didn't actually have permission to use the property in KH I and got called out for it. But I would think companies as large as that would know better. o_O

I dunno, I'm not complaining. I can't say that I cared very much for Deep Jungle.

No they got permission in the first game. The copyright screen that pops up gives proper permission from the company to use Tarzan. I think it may have been a few things, these are all theories of course...

-The company who owns the copyright of Tarzan did not like the story created for Tarzan
-Tarzan just did not appeal to fans as much as say Halloweentown (Nightmare before Christmas)

That last one makes the most sense, Tarzan didn't do that great when it came out. Many people complained about Phil Collins music inthe soundtrack.

I couldn't imagine a company as large as Disney would be so negligent and risk a lawsuit as to use Tarzan without proper rights, but you never know sometimes, what people will try and get away with.

I agree with you that it was probably a number of reasons why Deep Jungle didn't make a repeat appearance, and I think the main one is probably that Tarzan just didn't appeal to fans. Tarzan was about on the outside of the "Disney Renaissance" era of the late 80s through the 90s, and I don't remember it really being popular in the way The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, or Aladdin were/are loved.

And then it's probably just a hassle dealing with all of the rights. Some of the books are so old that they're in the public domain and not protected by copyright, some are under the ownership of Burroughs' family/company, and then Disney owns their movie version, and really, why fool with all that when you can use a property Disney owns completely?

If they truly wanted to do something with Tarzan, they could have just did it with Tarzan as a young child and then try to bring him back older with Jane and Clayton and all of that. But even so, there is not a lot one can do with Tarzan.
