Why Final Fantasy?

I made a similar thread in the Kingdom Hearts section, and I noticed that there isn't a thread like it in here, either- at least none that I can find. So here goes...

How did you become interested in Final Fantasy? Which was your first game? Are you still a fan? And so on.

    ---

I became interested in Final Fantasy after playing Kingdom Hearts. I really liked the Final Fantasy characters in KHI, specifically "Leon", and wanted to find out more about them and the games they originated from.

I was actually looking to buy VIII, then pick up some of the others if I liked it, but I found VII in a Blockbuster not long after I started looking around and bought it.

And I would still call myself a fan, since my love of the storylines and characters in the older games hasn't changed. However, I will admit that I didn't have a whole lot of interest in XII before it came out, and I haven't followed XIII much, either. So I guess I'm really more of a nostalgic fan.

The first game I played was VIII. It is still my favorite game. Some time afterwards, my brother had gotten X. But at first, it seemed too different from VIII, so I said I wouldn't try it. But I got bored one day and did. Beat it before my brother.

Of course I'm still a fan.

And for some reason, by step–brother doesn't like the series. He's always complaining about how lame he thinks the storyline is. How his beloved Space Marines could easily kill the FF characters. How completely unrealistic it is, etc.
