Square Enix Unveils Exciting New Job “Viper” for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail – The Ultimate Dual-Wielding Action

SQUARE ENIX® Reveals Details About Upcoming Expansion Pack for FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 21, 2023) – SQUARE ENIX® has recently unveiled new information about Dawntrail™, the fifth expansion pack for its highly acclaimed MMO FINAL FANTASY™ XIV Online. The expansion is set to be released in Summer 2024. One of the highlights of the announcement is the introduction of a new job called “Viper,” a dual-wielding close-range fighter. The reveal was made by Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida at the FINAL FANTASY XIV Fan Festival 2023 in London. A new teaser trailer showcasing the “Viper” in action was also premiered at the event.

The keynote address also featured the announcement of Echoes of Vana’diel, a new alliance raid series that will be part of the 7.x content cycle. This series will be a crossover collaboration with FINAL FANTASY XI.

Dawntrail will offer a wealth of fresh content, including an increased level cap, multiple new jobs, expansive new areas, new allied tribes, new dungeons, and various core battle content such as FATEs, Hunts, Treasure Hunts, and sidequests. Some of the newly revealed features include:

  • New Job – The “Viper,” a close-range fighter wielding two one-handed blades that can be combined into a single two-handed weapon.
  • New City – Tuliyollal, the capital of the federal nation-state governing Tural, located in the Northern Reaches of Yok Tural. Take a walkthrough of the city here.
  • New Areas – Kozama’uka, a tropical region filled with rivers, streams, and waterfalls, and Shaaloani, an arid region featuring vast rain-starved plains. Explore the fields of these areas here.
  • New Allied Tribe – The Moblins, a people residing in the jungles of Kozama’uka who share a common ancestry with goblins.
  • New Threats – Eliminator
  • New Alliance Raid – Echoes of Vana’diel, a crossover series with FINAL FANTASY XI.
  • New Limited Job – Planned for release in the latter half of the Patch 7.x series.

These updates expand upon the previously announced features at the FINAL FANTASY XIV Fan Festival 2023 in Las Vegas, which include:

  • Journey to the New World, Tural, and its capital, Tuliyollal
  • Exploration of new areas such as Urqopacha and Yak T’el
  • New Allied Tribes, including the Pelupelu who reside in Urqopacha
  • Level Cap increase from 90 to 100
  • Multiple New Jobs
  • Core Battle Content such as FATEs, Hunts, Treasure Hunts, and Sidequests
  • New Dungeons
  • New Threats, including Valigarmanda
  • Duty Support Update
  • New Gear and Recipes
  • Expansive New Lifestyle Content
  • New Variant Dungeons, Alliance Raid, 8-Player Raid, and Ultimate Raid
  • PvP Update
  • Ongoing Content Updates, including a Blue Mage Update, Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures, New Plans for Deep Dungeons, and a Gold Saucer Update

In addition to these features, Dawntrail will introduce the game’s first graphical update for character and world visuals, including improvements to screen-wide aesthetic appeal, higher resolution textures and shadows, and improved material qualities.

Yoshida also shared new details on upcoming content in the 6.x series leading up to the release of Dawntrail. A crossover questline with FINAL FANTASY XVI titled “The Path Infernal” was revealed, and the long-awaited Gold Saucer attraction inspired by Fall Guys will officially launch on October 31 as part of Patch 6.51.

As for console players, the open beta for the Xbox Series X|S version of FINAL FANTASY XIV Online is set to launch between mid-January and February 2024. The official release for Xbox players is planned for Spring 2024, with support for 4K on Xbox Series X. More details will be announced soon.
