So, haven't bought KH 2.8 yet. Is it worth the money? I checked online and the average play through time is abysmal.... Jul 10, 2018

The book is in fact quite amazing, hence it's adoption to TV (also because it's Christmas themed, and fitted quite nicely at the time.)

And my point was that everyone has heard of those authors, despite not having any serious awards or such attributed to them.

Haha, of course. I can't force anyone to read or watch anything, but now you can at least test the water so to speak with my favourite author.

I find it odd that many people haven't heard of him, while many have heard of Stephanie Meyer and lately E. L. James (I shudder at the thought) while Terry has an OBE, has been knighted, has won the Carnegie award and is the second most-read author in the UK (seventh most-read non-US writer over in the US.)

But that's probably me just getting all up in arms over a writer :P

Ah Terry Pratchett is a brilliant he-author who writes fantasy novels with amazing tinges of comedy. He's most famous for his novels set in the 'discworld' a fantastical world, shaped flat in a disc shape, which sits astride 4 giant elephants, who in turn sit on the great space turtle A'Tuin.

If that hasn't gotten you interested I don't know what will. You can watch some of his greatest works through the TV adaptations that have been uploaded to YouTube countless times such as The Colour of Magic and The Hogfather

Haha, I find that very interesting so there's no need to apologise! (The Shakespeare Behind Bars thing, not West Side Story.)

In truth I've only read the first half of The Tempest, but that definitely pulled me in, if I could get my hands on a copy of it I'd have no problem reading through that in a couple days, however, for now I still have a lot of Terry Pratchett to read.

Wow! It a little thing. I would have done it anyway since you asked.

      Who knows?

      Only Partially.

My name is Joshua. I go by Josh. I really don't care if someone calls me Josh or Joshua. It's such a common name. Ugh! Or if some people go Oh my GOSH. It sometimes sounds like Oh my JOSH. The story of my life.

I was tempted to mention West Side Story a while back. However, for some reason I decided to overlook it because I've never seen it, and in all possibility there was a chance I could be ripping into something that was actually good. But I suppose my safety was for nought now.

I think people need to let it lie now, or at least use other source materials, like the excellent 2010 version of 'The Tempest' which I've yet to see because I didn't actually realise it was out (I followed it back when it was first announced, but then heard no news of it and it completely escaped my memory.)

Haha, I suppose anyone can be a critic of anything :P

And yes, in the vaguest sense, I did mean that some translations take it too far, usually missing the point of the story in favour of "wouldn't it be cool if Romeo and Juliet focused on gang wars and guns!?" in which case my resounding answer is no, no it wouldn't.

On the whole, I wouldn't pay to go see it, but if you want to watch Romeo and Juliet in a different light, then knock yourself out.

I'm absolutely fine with translations that use modern English, or ones that explain the meaning of the old english (after all, Shakespeare did just make up half of the words in his plays, probably single-handedly contributing more to the English language than anyone else.) It's when adaptations go too far in that direction and you end up with "A Midsummer's Night's Bad Trip on Acid" or "The Dealer of Venice."

I may have just made those two plays up, but I think you get the gist of it.

Also, Romeo + Juliet was cringe worthy all the way through, though the idea of using guns made by a company called 'Sword' was a pretty original idea, in keeping with the themes and language.

Haha, I make myself out to be some kind of Shakespeare aficionado or critic :P

      Haha, not a problem.

I think nowadays people don't resonate well with Shakespeare due to the language and some of the themes which are a bit dated now (unrequited love for instance, not as popular as it once was). I think a lot of teenagers these days would probably enjoy the plots of the bard's great works if they could understand them without having to go through terrible film and play adaptations setting them in 'the hood'.

Honestly, I have no idea who allowed this to happen, even though it got mostly positive reviews I cringed the whole way through.

I played the part of Oberon once, just before I came back a while ago, so I changed my sig to have that quote. It's a pretty good play though.
