Fate

Angelous had seen his fire dampen, and already had a slight bitterness toward Geriks saviour. It would have been amusing to watch him squirm. But these missions sounded..interesting.

Maybe he should do one, after all, it had pretty much been a given he'd get more powerful as he did more of them - this would be brilliant! He'd do ones to stretch his very limits - then he'd be more powerful than these other fools by miles! It was the perfect plan! But, wait.. he didn't actually have to do any with them did he?

"Oh good lord no.." he cringed. He'd just realised he was not going to be able to do the harder ones himself. Did this mean making.. friends?

 

Zephyr looked behind where he was sitting- noticing a boy at the back of the class who quietly sketched in his notebook. Zephyr hadn't noticed him until now. He kept quiet as he did during the whole entire class.

"And I thought I was the quiet one..." Zephyr murmured to himself.


Damon doodled little swirls and other things at random as Deicius stepped out of the class. Damon was a little lonely, though he never attempted to befriend another soul besides his own, Damon often found that it would only logically be quite hard.

It would mean socializing, "hanging-out", and talking about his feelings which he thought were mostly boring.


Zephyr watched the boy draw, his eyes became Damon's pencil as he followed the yellow stick scratch the surface of the paper.

Zephyr then looked at the other students, "Anyone know that dude's name?" He asked- realizing it was his first time talking to one of his classmates.

 

"Damon." Angelous said simply, which was perfectly the first words he had said to any classmate as well. "You really should learn to listen Zephyboo."

He stalked across to Damon, peered over his shoulder, gave a 'ha!' of amusement, and reached across to snatch the sketchbook from his hands. The first thought that went through his head was 'Damn, these are actually pretty good!', which was quickly suppressed by his outlook on the world, and replaced by an immediate resentment of the boy.

 

Zephyr giggled, Zephy-boo...


Damon gasped as out of nowhere the boy appeared and snatched his notebook.
Damon snapped his fingers, igniting a small flame that quickly died down.

Damon looked up at the boy fondly flipping through his notebook, it was such a surprising event, "Ermm... Hello?" Damon asked, not knowing if this was how every friendship started. With some stranger stealing your book away to look and maybe even critiquing your work.

Damon gulped.

 

"I think this is absolutely-" Angelous stopped, after all, he might need allies. He changed the tone of his voice. "quite well done indeed."

He felt as if he'd betrayed himself..

"Where do you get ideas from?" He asked, handing the pad carefully back to Damon.

 

"Hmm... uhh, low attention span?" Damon said, not prepared for what was most suitable to say. He then observed the older kid.

"That's an interesting weapon- what class are you?" Damon asked, it was the longest sentence he had said all day, though it didn't make the situation feel anymore "friendlier".

"Ready for another mission Zion?" Gerik asked, standing up.

Zion sighed. "I suppose so. Didn't expect to get any rest today. What rank is it this time?"

"Probably an E ranked mission. Might as well have a practice one. Haven't done one all summer. Wanna make sure I'm not rusty." Gerik turned to Gamlin. "Do you wanna join a mission with us? It'd be good practice working with a team."

"Hmm...sure,why not?Not exactly the best time to take a risk right now anyways.I am not strong enough to take on most of these missions alone..."Gamlin thought.While saying this,he did think he could take on an E mission alone,but for now it was best to work in a team,the risk was too high this early in to go it alone.He also knew that the toughest missions would be almost impossible to do alone,getting friends and allies now to help would help with those missions."So then,shall we choose?"Gamlin asked as he rose from his seat.

 

"Sure. Just gotta go to Deicius' computer. Since he's commander, he's gotta personally assign each mission. There is one rumor spreading around though. That once you become a full-fledged Battler you're allowed to go on certain missions without Deicius' say-so. And that there are even secret missions available depending on your accomplishments." Gerik explained.

Zion was already at the door. "You coming? Or just gonna stand and talk all day? Let's go." Zion walked out the door, to Deicius' office.

 

Gerik was dissapointed that he and Zion were in different teams. He was about to speak up, but Zion spoke first. "The teams are fine with us." Gerik shot a glance at Zion. "What? It's better we're on different teams. It better balances each. And don't worry. We're still a team when it comes to practice fights here."

Gerik was looking over the names for each group. "Soo... Are there gonna be some kind of competition going on? Since our class is split into groups? And do we have to meet together first?"

>lol. I just realized Gerik has all the anti-socialish characters in his group.<

 

"Thanks." Gerik said, taking the paper. He headed back to the classroom, thinking about which mission he wanted to do. "The first one. According to this paper, the prize is 200 gold for completing the mission. Plus an additional 500 gold for buying the items. That is an extra 200 gold compared to the second mission."

He reached the classroom again. He looked around before speaking. "Will Angelous, Damon, and Yuuya please come over here. Looks like we're gonna be partners."

Angelous walked up to Gerik. "So, what one do you think we should, o'mighty Gerik? Be sure to give me a shout when you've all made your mind up." He realised this sounded quite sarcastic and offensive, so he quickly smiled warmly and added "And do try not to catch fire this time huh?"

He sat in the corner with his feet up, making sparks jump across the table like a small circus act, and waited for their decision.

 

Something I said, I guess... Thought Damon, looking around the class. He got up and sat closer to the front row- he wanted to catch up more if Deicius came back in.

Damon twitched, then pressed his index fingers together as he sat down at a desk right next to Zephyr's.

"So, err... what's going on at the moment- are we gonna embark on missions or something?" Damon said, clenching his teeth to about the point where his upper-jaw slipped on a puddle of saliva and made his teeth squeak.

"Ouch..." He murmured to himself, rubbing his cheek.

 

Myles trotted over to the instructor and picked up the remaining slip for his group. He sighed, seeing as the other group had gotten first pick but he shrugged it off quickly. With that, he began walking back over to Myre - but then tripped and fell flat on his face, the paper flying out of his hands and into Myre's lap.

"I'm good!" He called from the floor as he began to bring himself off the ground.

 

"Sir... I like that." Gerik thought to himself. "Okay. So basically, this class is split into two groups. Deicius gave me two different missions we can do. They're both E ranked. They both involve buying items. The prize for each mission is 200 gold. Mission one, we have to buy 5 ethers. Deicius will give us 500 gold for completing the mission. The second mission requires us to buy a staff. Deicius will give us 300 gold for completing it. I say we go for the first mission. But it is a group decision. So what to you guys want to do?"

"Yeah. I suppose we could get started on our own mission today too." Zion said. "Will they be the same missions as Gerik has available? Or different ones?"
