Racism

Well whatever makes people feel better about themselves then.

 

The myth of race is a pervasive one. When reminded of it, often times people will exploit and devastate each other.

Although Hitler is a topic on Racism, the very concept of racism itself is unfounded, and was actually assumed to be real for socially relative purposes, imo. In fact there is no genetic differences between an African fellow and an American fellow, or an Asian fellow, even. The only difference is the pigmentation. And the only differences in immunities and other environmentally related characteristics are from the environment of that area. Some physical differences are also noted here, such as eye curves, hair color, eye color, etc.

But if we pay no attention to things like eye color and hair color, then why is skin all of a sudden a huge deal? Well I shouldn't say all of a sudden... it has been around for a long time.

To me "race" is simply an identifier to ethnicity. However inaccurate this may be, it does cover some basic grounds. I can safely assume the brown pigmentation can usually be that of Hispanic or the like. Although it does depend on their habits, physical structure, etc.

Now the real big thing here is why we marginalize one another on the basis of race. I'm not sure if any of you know about the "one drop rule"? Essentially some time ago, if you even had 1% of your genetic make-up as non-white (such as African, let's say), you are therefore not white. This was a simple social stigma placed on those who had one white parent and one black parent, because if I can recall correctly, it was put to work to completely eliminate the black "gene-pool" from the population. However, this never worked, because no amount of science can find "race" in genetics. It's a series of genetic structures in the individual, coupled with ethnic characteristics. I hope that makes sense.

Would I go as far as to say "race doesn't exist"? Probably not, because race is generally identified with ethnicity as well--even though the two are very, very different.

 

You sort of summed up my thoughts. Racism is wrong, and it shouldn't be used anymore in our country.

 

Too bad other ppl have too much pride in the color of there skin. That's why where called a race people, where supposed to be different, not all look alike. so then the ? is why do other races like whites, think there better cuz of skin or other traits that so do not have. (not all whites and black thing just example)

2. It's called a race because it's called a race. A "Racing" Analogy doesn't do crap here, because you can have a race where all the competitors are the same.

That is so not true. You can live how you want, slave owners had kids and sometimes even when they taught them to hate blacks, sometimes, very few times the kids did not listen and tried to help the blacks. So you cant blame it on how we are raised.

 

I was just pointing out that it can be beaten. I now it was slim and that it impacts are life. Really if ppl just looked at things in a broad way, then they would see them as humans and ppl too. That race is just a name, and that The bible says not to have slaves or kill and treat others and love others as your family and if ppl where into it like they say, then why would racism be a big thing?

 

Actually, the Bible says you can have slaves (And gives explicit instructions on how to treat them). I'll post the passages if wanted, but this is not the religion thread.

 

Slavery has got to be one of the most immoral things a person can do. Yet slavery is rampant throughout the Bible in both the Old and New Testaments. The Bible clearly approves of slavery in many passages, and it goes so far as to tell how to obtain slaves, how hard you can beat them, and when you can have sex with the female slaves. It's horrible and It gets me very angry that even today there are still slavery going on about.

 

But the thing is, you can. You just need to look at social and psychology information by B.F. Skinner, Robert Redfield and other various sociologists/psychologists to really grasp a global perspective on the way humans can think about race. The biological spectrum (the idea you are implying is more true than nurture) is really backed by little evidence. Granted there is some, though, to be fair.

Discrimination towards someone due to skin color is very much something that is taught to you. You can try and argue there is genetics that give someone an inherent dislike or hate towards someone because of their skin... but then you automatically throw up in the air more questions, such as, are emotions such as hate and feelings of dislike inherent in a persons DNA? Would that also mean they have a higher propensity by inherency to respect and appreciate certain colored people and therefore their emotions of happiness and joy with them? When you see that the majority of individuals raised were racist to the slaves at the time, it is abundantly clear it is based on cognitive behavioral projection.

That's just my opinion though.

Now of course I'm not racist (if people didn't know that.) I am just pointing out the slavery thing. We we did in slave them, and yes they weren't the only ones. Though if they look at their own country they have more In America then they would ever have in their own country, because we inslaved them and had to let them free. So they shouldn't ever bring it up they were inslaved.
