Up the lift we went and out into the sun once more. We closed the door behind us, and looked around to be sure we were alone. No one was around, but the security guards were still patroling down below. Jason and I ran, we decided to take the long was=y down, because it had more trees and therefore more cover to hide behind.

We didn't run into much trouble, but now we had a problem, we had to get to the police station from here. It was way too long to go on foot, and we had no car to drive there. We could have asked Jason's parents to take us, but then we'd have to explain WHY, anmd how were we supposed to make them believe us....well granted we DID have the gun and the meth, but then we'd have to explain THAT as well.

We didn't have the time to waste on explinations unless they were too the cops, any second someone could find ol' Scruffy Beard all tied up in the mountain, and then we would be royaly fucked.

There was one option. I had my license so in theory I could drive (we'd just have to avoid being pulled over) but now, we had to steal the car keys. Could be easy, could be hard only one way to find out. We stached the gun and meth into my backpack, and ran home.

This was turnng out to be one HELL of a vacation.

Very good. Let's just hope he doesn't crash the car while he tries to steal it.....

    >ask and you shall recieve<

So Jason and I snuck into the house. The lights were off and it seemed we were alone...well almost alone. Jason's Grandpa was there, but as I said before he was deaf. So we grabbed the keys and piled into Jason's parent's car.

We drove off towards town, and finally after ten minutes of driving Jason broke our silence.

"This has been one HELL of a day. Am I right?"

"Yeah, weirdest I've had in a while."

We talked like this for a while, then slid back into the awkward silence. It wasn't until after I heard the siren, and saw the flashing lights that I noticed we were above the speed limit.

"God fucking damn it!" I cried, "ok, act normal. They have no reason to suspect we're carrying drugs and packing heat!"

So we're just sitting there waiting for the cop to come to the window. I may have looked like I was as cool as a cucumber, but inside I was shaking in utter terror.

Finally after what seemed like forever, the cop walked up to us, and I brought down the window to allow him to speak to us. He pulled down his shades, and I about died. I recognized the face of the stout man we saw on the first trip up the mountain. How fucking unlucky could we have been? Regardless I stayed cool, and handed over my lisence and regestration as ordered. He let me off with a warning when he saw I was from out of town, to which I breathed a sigh of relief.

As we drove off I looked over at Jason, who was about as white as a ghost.

"You saw it too right?" I asked him.

    "Yup..." he squeeked.

"Should we still go?" I asked.

"We'll have too, how can we not?"

"I guess you're right... We'll just have to be careful not to run into that guy again."

"What are we going to say when we get there?"

"How the hell should I know? I've been making this all up as I go!" I said driving off towards the police station.

We drove in silence for the longest time. The events of what was going on kept buzzing through my head like a cloud of dense fog, and no matter how hard I tried to sift through it, the haze seemed to only get worse. Who else was in on this conspiracy? Were there any more cops? Had the traffic cop recognized them both somehow, and if so did he warn his other conspirators? A wave of unease washed over me as I steered the car into the parking lot of the police station. The building was small, and probably had very few officers working in it at a single time. This was a good sign because it meant less chance of another conspirator being inside, on the other hand there was also less protection if one were to show up.

The small machine gun fit into the backpack as well as the drugs, so Jason and I brought it all inside. We had no idea what we would say, but we had to give it a try, we would just wing it.

As we walked in the door I saw a reception desk, with a woman sitting behind it ready to hear the cases of the citizens of Traverse City. However as I approached the desk, I recognized the woman as the Asian lady from the mountain.

A wave of nausea hit me like a freight train as I realized once again how far this cartel reached. Still I did not show any sign of weakness or fear on my face, I glanced at Jason and knew from the look behind his stony eyes that he recognized her as well. Though he masked it almost flawlessly, I wouldn’t have noticed it were I not looking for it.

We walked to the desk, I had no intention of sharing what I knew with this woman, doing so would be suicide.

“Can I help you?” she asked with a cheery voice and convincingly fake smile.

“Yeah, hi…” I muttered. “We need to speak with an officer or a detective or something, can we get in to see someone? Anyone?”

“I’m afraid I can’t do that unless I have a legitimate reason. Why do you need to see someone?” she said, her smile vanishing.

“Umm…well….” I stuttered. I didn’t want to tell her the truth? She obviously didn’t know us so for now we were in the clear why should I tip her off? Just then a man in plainclothes, but flashing a badge, came up to the desk.

“Let them by, I’ll see to their case.” He said looking at us. Luckily I had never seen this man before, so hopefully he wasn’t one of them. “Come with me to the back, I’m Detective Carter.” We followed him to the back rooms of the station. I glanced over my shoulder and noticed the desk woman mutter something very discretely into a walkie-talkie.

We followed Detective Carter down a long hallway lined with rooms with held conference halls, interrogation rooms, and private offices. At the end of the hall was Carter’s office, a sign by the door proclaimed his name to the world. He let us into the office first and we sat down in two chairs that rested in front of the desk. Carter leaned against the desk, towering over us in the seats. The walls showed paper cutout displaying articles of big cases Carter had undoubtedly solved. He seemed to be a very capable as well as respected detective.

“So what is it you two have to say?” he asked in a serious tone. I plopped the backpack onto my lap and slowly began to open it, yet hiding it’s contents from the officer, at least until I explained what it was.

I told him the whole story, about the meth labs, the hidden mountain headquarters, the conspiracy, and the dirty cops. Showing him the stolen meth and the gun seemed to buy his trust, and soon he wanted to be shown exactly where the meth labs could be found. We all walked outside, back towards the lobby, Carter was talking to us about how good a job we had done, and how brave we were.

“Boys, this could be the case of the year! To think a whole drug cartel right here and no one knew-“ his sentence trailed off with the bang of a gun going off. I looked back in sheer horror as Carter’s abdomen began to bleed. Carter fell to his knees, then backwards onto the floor. I turned my head and to my complete dismay, saw none other than scruffy beard who had pulled the trigger. He was flanked by the dirty cop and the receptionist.

“Hand over my drugs, or I’ll shoot you in the fucking face!” he ordered.

With the gun in my face, I froze. I saw no way out of the situation.

“What do you want?” I asked.

“I want what belongs to me!” said scruffy beard. “I want the goddamn meth!”

“It's in the backpack hold on...” I said. I got to my knees and opened up my backpack. Jason gave me a look to say 'why are you giving up?' but I didn't pay attention to him. Though I went for the backpack, I didn't reach for the drugs, instead my hand closed around the grip of the gun.

I yanked it out of the backpack, and in what will surely be the biggest badass moment of my life, I sprayed the drug dealers down with my gun fire. It was then that I learned I was only a good shot in Call of Duty, as I was only able to hit the heavy set cop. Thankfully I hit him in both knees, so he fell to the floor screaming in pain.

This alone was enough to cause scruffy beard to reel back in shock, he hadn't expected me to actually fire a gun at him. I seized my opportunity and leaped at him, but as I was about to make contact. The woman called out. I turned to see that she had Jason in a hold, a pistol to his head.

“Fuck” was all I could manage to say. She had beaten me. I begrudgingly gave up the drugs in exchange for Jason's life, I could never allow my friend to die like that. When the drugs were secure scruffy and the woman were out the door.

But as they got to the parking lot Patrol cars came from nowhere, and scruffy beard got into his own car, driving off without the woman. I almost felt sorry for her, then I remembered how she had taken Jason hostage.

Carter was taken in to get medical help, but we were assured he'd make a recovery. Later we were told that Scruffy had gotten away. The police took us back home and explained the situation to Jason's parents, the police wanted us to stay in town to ID the other conspirators, hopefully they would nail scruffy beard in no time.

The next day Jason and I took the police to where the meth lab had been. Down the elevator and out into the hall seemed to be enough to win over a few of the cops, but as we searched each room we found that all of the meth labs had been removed. This looked very bad for us as the cops began to question our legitimacy.

We went back outside sure that we had lost all hope of busting the cartel when the two teenage boys from the group showed up.

“Aww fuck” one of them said before they both sprinted away. A cop fired off a warning shot with his pistol and both kids screeched to a halt. They were taken into custody where they admitted to everything, and even offered to finger their fellow gang members.

With the help of the boys and confirmations from Jason and I the entire cartel was taken down in a matter of two days. All with the exception of scruffy beard who we had learned (over the course of interrogating the teens) was named Arron.

Carter was also released during that time, and he took us back to Jason's parents. Reports said there had been no sign of Arron in the city at all since he escaped the police office, and the general consensus was that he high-tailed it while he had the chance, most likely taking the contents of Sugarloaf with him.

With no threat from Arron Jason and I decided to bask in the irony and head up to our hangout on Sugarloaf again for the evening. We just felt we could have used the fresh air. Just to be safe though a patrol man was sent with us too keep an eye out for the drug dealer.

I felt safe for the moment, but something told me this wasn't exactly over yet...and I was too right.

AN: been a while since I updated this, but the story still goes on. The story is coming to a close, I think only one more chapter after this. enjoy.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

The sun hung low in the sky above Sugarloaf, so Jason and I decided to head back home. Carter would be waiting there to greet us. He had been acting as like a live in bodyguard until the cops were sure that Arron was gone and never coming back. The officer with Jason and I walked behind us by just a few paces. He seemed vigilant, but I wasn't too worried, it had been three days and still no sign of Arron, I doubted he would still be after us.

We took a short cut through the woods, trying to make it back to the cabin before the sun went fully down. Unfortunately, The shadow cast by the thicket of trees put us into a dark forest setting. Foreboding, but still I felt no fear.

Then we heard the gunshot, it resonated through the trees, and sounded sickeningly like murder. I turned in time to see our police escort fall to the ground. I nearly vomited, but the pure terror kept me in line, I no longer had time to be sick.

Arron stepped through the trees, a smoking shotgun in his hands. He looked different. His hair was greasy, his clothes tattered, and his eyes darkened by lack of sleep, but his twisted grin had not changed.

“You two...Fucked up my life. So now I'm going to end yours!” he cried. Jason opened him mouth as if to retort, but before he could my “flee” instinct kicked in and I grabbed his arm, forcing him to run behind me. A second gunshot rang through the darkness, and a terror I had never known before gripped me.

“Greg what are yo-” asked Jason

“Just run goddammit!” I cut him off.

A third round splinted a tree just a few inches to my right, he was a good shot I'll give him that. Our flight ended when we reached a hill, we could have climbed it, but it was so steep we would be significantly slowed down, easy prey for the mad gunman. I looked around franticly, trying to find another path, but none could be seen. I began to shack all over as the prospect of imminent death settled in.

Then Arron showed himself, he raised the shotgun into the air and fired off another round, simply to scare us more. It had worked.

“Well, boys it's been a nice run, but the games are over now. Time to meet your maker.” He cocked the gun and took aim. I closed my eyes, and readied myself for what was too come. A shot rang out, and my ears rang. A second passed. Then another. Was that it? Was I dead? I had felt no pain. No I still felt the night air, still heard the noises of the forest. I opened my eyes, expecting to see Jason dead, but he was still standing next to me, his face pale. I followed his gaze and saw Arron lying on the ground, a trickle of blood flowing from an open gunshot wound in his chest.

I looked up and saw none other than Detective Carter standing there, smoking pistol still pointed at Arron's lifeless corpse.
