My expectations were too high. Before I played FFVII, everybody was telling me how it is the best game of them all. I then played it at some point, and was dissapointed. It is an alright game, but definantly not the best. Of course, thinking of it now I have high expectations for FFVI. I hope I'm not gonna be dissapointed if I ever get to play it.

Speaking of the Fal'Cie....... *haven't beaten the boss I'm at.....*

The only expectations I had about VII were from meeting some of the characters in Kingdom Hearts, so basically, I had no expectations. And at the end of the game, I did like Sephiroth as a villain. It's only now, after playing so many of the other games and being drowned in all of the Sephy-hype, that I've tired of him.

That's a valid reason to dislike sephiroth and 7 as a whole I suppose. Also, which boss? Barthandelus on disc 2? PM me if you want some stratagies.

That was the one. Took me a few tries, but I beat him today.

Oh! Do you think so? I think Sephiroth can defeat her anytime, anyplace he want to do. With me Sephiroth is so powerful and who is the strong second in Final Fantasy series, his only power behind "GOD". So no one can Sephiroth stronger.

^ A prime example of Sephiroth's overrated-ness. Second only to God, really? What about Kefka, who becomes a god himself? Or hell, even Yu Yevon is more god-like. Then there's Kuja, who destroyed Terra through his magic. What's Sephiroth done again?

On the music, sometimes really awesome music can turn an otherwise normal person into a great badass.More so if that person is a character who is aware of the 4th wall.Hell, stopping the music can result in a characters deafeat (Im looking at you Aizen).

But yea,Seph...hes ok.Not my favorite villian, but he isnt too bad either.I didnt play VII till a couple years ago.I knew it wouldnt be as good as the hype made it out to be,but it wasnt that bad either.I think seeing more of his backstory during the war with Wutai might help his evilness, depedning on what he did,but otherwise not much else is going to change it for me.

From your first post Toph, the little bit on Vayne.I dont think they were going out to make you hate him.I believe they tried to make him human,a human with good intentions. And we all know what happens with good intentions.

Im also surprised that the Emperor hasnt been brought up.The guy died easily,yes...then took over Hell (and Heaven in the GBA version!).Hell,he may have let you kill him just to do all that!

But it is all opinion. Many people think Seph is the better villian, many Kefka. Some dont really have an opinion yet either.

In the defense of Sephiroth, he also had a better hero opposing him. A genetically modified super warrior > Monkey tailed child, imaginary blitzball player, and the party in FF6 was just disorganized and couldn't decide to fight or not

In addition to that, Garland/Chaos. He created a time paradox where he becomes immortal until the WoL kill him and fix everything. Don't care what you say, can't get much better than that.

Really, my complaint is that I felt nothing towards Vayne. Seymour is a good parallel here, IMO, because they both thought they had good intentions- Seymour just managed to interest me, while Vayne, probably for a lot of reasons, just couldn't.

Well, there ya go, Sephy fans, another example of a character who kicks more ass. :p

Well, when he was first defeated by Cloud, Cloud was just a puny SOLDIER reject. And you could say that Sephiroth was taken off guard, or whatever, but a first class SOLDIER shouldn't be surprised and taken down so easily, especially not when that SOLDIER is one hailed as the strongest being in the VII universe, and the standard every aspiring SOLDIER looks to.

As for later on, when Sephy faces off against Super Cloud, Barret, Tifa, etc, well, I'd argue that the final bosses of X faced a party that wasn't much, if at all, weaker. Yeah, Tidus may have been a whiny crybaby, but there's also Yuna with her kickass aeons, for starters. I don't think Sephy had to deal with much more than any other villains.

Really, I think Cloud is just as overrated as Sephiroth. But that's a topic for another thread.

I liked Sephiroth a lot, actually. I liked his character design and his weapon. But most of all, I like his backstory. How he goes from being a renowned hero to being a major villain. How a misconception turned him into a near sadistic psychopath bent on destroying the world.

Sephiroth seemed very interesting to me, as a lot was put into his character, in my opinion.
