The Purge. Pretty much exactly what I figured it'd be. Though I only had it on for white noise.

Neighbors: It wasn't as funny as I thought it'd be (I think it was a little overhyped), but I really enjoyed the perspective of the "old people", stuck between being screw up kids and responsible adults, seeing as that's about where I'm at in life at the moment. I thought Rose Byrne was awesome, and I loved that her character was into the back-and-forth rivalry so much, as usually the wife character in these sort of movies is all serious and nagging towards her slacker/moron husband. The star of the show was definitely the twins playing baby Stella, though. They almost make me want to have kids, they're so freaking adorable.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I: It was better than I thought it would be, given that I'm not a huge fan of the third book. The scene they chose to end the film on looked a little silly, and there was a throwaway scene in the book that I was hoping would somehow end up in the movie, but didn't. Overall, though, not as good as the other two movies, but still a good time.

I should change this into the "Kitty talks about movies thread." Someone else speak up, for goodness sakes.

I've just seen two new movies: The first was Birdman, which, from the premise, sounded good, and had a great cast, but was somehow just awful anyway. I don't know why critics loved it so much, honestly.

Second was The Hobbit 3, which I thought was weaker than the previous two (somehow I wasn't as emotionally invested), but still a really good movie, as all these Tolkien-based films have been so far.

I think I'll let out my movie dump, I.E. the last 5 movies I've seen.

Nightcrawler: 9.5/10 Jake Gyllenhaal was phenoooomenal. This is definitely in my top three favorite movies of the year, easily. The trailers kinda give the movie a different story, in my opinion, at first but the film at no point disappoints. Give this man another Oscar.

The Babadook: 8/10 Probably one of the best horror movies I have seen in a very long time. Not scary movie like the Conjuring or Insidious, which rank up in my favorite horrors of my generation, but as in a horror movie that genuinely scared me. Not with jump scares, but with a eerie tone and tense feel. If it weren't for that god damn kid who was just....UGH, it'd be a 9 and it'd be a 10 if it didn't have a pretty confusing ending.

The Interview: 6.5-7/10 I don't care what anyone says, I love Seth Rogen humor and love when he and James Franco together. So when they took on the leader of North Korea in this comedy, I was laughing my ass off every second of the way. It definitely did it's job as a comedy and I will give it that. In terms of being a full fledged movie....meh, it was 'ight.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: 10/10 From someone who has read the books, I personally could not find anything wrong with this movie. People will say that this movie was worse than the first one because they expect, after the first two, for there to be bloodfests or much more action. This was almost as political as the books, maybe just as, and kept up with that tone. Loved it and will be watching it again soon.

Birdman: 8/10 It was alright. Michael Keaton was pretty damn good, and the filming style was very interesting and unique. But this was a movie, like Big Hero 6 in my opinion, that was so overly hyped that going in I really expected more. So when it was all over I just kinda finished it and went, "Huh....well i watched that." If you can get past the hype and just wanna watch a dark humor'd movie with a damn fine cast, I recommend it.

I don't feel like talking about Big Hero 6 because it really was just ok, or at least I thought. How to Train Your Dragon 2 is still animation movie of the year.

I agree about Michael Keaton being damn good (and honestly, the rest of the cast was, too), and I also agree about the style being interesting, but...

Honestly, what ruined it for me was the ending. Up until the last scene with Emma Stone's character, I thought it was weird but still enjoyable enough, but then that scene just killed it.
    ---

I recently saw two, and was hoping someone else would post in this thread so I didn't have to double post again XD.

Big Hero 6: My nephew wanted to see this, so I took him New Year's Eve. All I knew about it was what I saw in trailers (hadn't heard any hype one way or the other), and we both loved it. It surprised me a little, being a little darker than I was expecting, but I am such a sucker for these damn movies about people stepping up and saving the world and shit, so I thought this was awesome. The short before it, "Feast," was pretty great, too. Made me all teary-eyed and such, how pathetic is that? LOL.

Into The Woods: I thought this was okay. The performances were all respectable, but the story dragged on a bit. I kept thinking "Now, it's over", but then the movie would just keep going, and then I'd go "Okay, NOW it's over," and it'd be another fake out. Aside from that, can't really complain.

The last movie I watched was Insurgent. I thought it was pretty okay- more of the same from the previous installment, at least what I remember of it, but I was still invested in seeing what happened (not having read the books yet). Acting, effects, and all that were respectable, though some details were a little hard to see on a drive-in screen.

Just watched American Sniper the other day. I had previously thought it was overhyped but after watching, I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed and enjoyed it. Of course, there were several fictional events added. I didn't read Chris Kyle's memoir but knowing that several of the action sequences were fabricated for the fact of making the movie entertaining kind of bothered me a bit. Overall, the acting was great and I enjoyed seeing a guy named Chris Kyle portrayed very similarly to the actual Chris Kyle.

Focus. This is another one that was "pretty okay." The first half of the movie was great; and I really enjoyed the small cons and teamwork that was involved. The second half was a little weaker, but in the movie's defense, at least I didn't completely guess the ending. Also, Will Smith looks, like, old. I guess I'm just used to MIB and Independence Day Will Smith. >_<

Watching the lds general conference right now. ....zzzzzzzzz

As for a movie I think it was the new Cinderella. Not gonna lie it exceeded my expectations.
7/10 it was really cute and they did well to stick closely to the original Disney animation. I like how they snuck in tunes from the original soundtrack too. It had its boring moments but for the most part it was well done. P.s. you can never go wrong with Helena Bonham Carter

Cinderella (2015). I thought it was pretty good. There wasn't anything new about the story, but for what it was it was enjoyable. I liked seeing a heroine who was just a nice girl- who didn't have to be spunky and GIRL POWER all the time. The costumes were all really pretty, too. I also liked that the actors kind of downplayed their parts and didn't fall into over the top hamminess like in some other live action fairy tale movies.

Watched the 1950s Ten Commandments movie at Easter (it airs every year in my area). It's a classic, such grandeur in its casting and set design...back in a time when CG didn't exist yet, they'd actually build all of their sets, less a little bit that can be attributed to clever directing. But imagine a Pharaoh's palace, or the construction of an Egyptian monument where they actually cast hundreds of people for a single scene, and actually built said monument...

    Great film.

The Age of Adaline: I got invited to a free screening before the movie was set to release, so I figured I'd check it out. It's really predictable; if you've seen a trailer for this, you can guess just about everything that happens. That said, I still really liked it. Some parts of the story were stupid (like, they tried to use science to explain things, and I was just like, NO), but I thought the acting was nice and I especially enjoyed the relationship between Adaline and her daughter. I'd watch it again.

So, I finally got around to watching A Clockwork Orange....eh.

That was the last movie I watched but that was about two weeks ago so I kinda forget a couple things, bear with me here. I understand this was based off of the book, so maybe I should instead read the book because they're usually much better, but man I just didn't follow anything. Granted, it was a Stanley Kubrick film so I should have expected as much but towards the ending especially I was confused. I also would have looooved to see more of Alex and his boys do more damage and mischief because I was simply enjoying their unprovoked destruction. Acting was awesome though and Alex is by far one of my favorite movie characters in anything ever.

I just feel like we could have been at the prison with him a bit longer and seen him interact more with the prisoners or, like I said earlier, seen some more of him and cronies doing more. Still have it saved on my laptop though because I could definitely watch one or two more times.

    Overall I'd say it was a 7.5-8/10.

I've read it and did not enjoy doing so. It's written in this made-up slang (loosely based on Russian), which in theory enriches the world building, but in practice I found incredibly frustrating to make my way through, especially with no dictionary within the book to reference. I mean, you can kind of use context clues to have an idea of what's being said, but ugh. I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know how much of that slang made it through the adaptation process.

If you enjoyed the destruction and violence, I remember the book being very graphic, as well, so that may be a plus. I believe the book also has several scenes that didn't make it into the movie, and some versions have a different ending, as well. So it might be worth checking out.

I just rewatched How To Train Your Dragon while babysitting the other night. I still adore this movie.

This morning I watched Paddington. Cute movie, but it made me crave orange marmalade. 9/10 stars in my opinion.

Anything in MCU or planet of the apes. Its something both me and my dad have in common and we love continuity in sequels.

Yeah, there was a bit of slang in the movie, but nothing too far out there if I remember correctly. As for the graphic content, yeah I did enjoy it on screen so I can only imagine what didn't make the cut from the book so that'd be a plus.

Still one of my favorite animated films of the 2000's.

Well I just watched Age of Ultron the other day. Loooooved it. If any downside, the Hulk v Hulkbuster fight didn't really feel conclusive to me, not to mention Stark never even talked about the armor beforehand. He just kinda had it. Besides that, great movie. Probably one of my favorite parts of the film was the very second Ultron first speaks. It was just so sudden and there that I could only mark out it nerd glee. I definitely prefer James Spader's Ultron over Tom Hiddleston's Loki because the character was just so unique and behaved a bit differently from what you'd expect from the trailers. Another great feat of this movie has to be the fact that Hawkeye does things. Like he actually matters in this movie several times throughout, unlike the first Avengers when he was just kinda there....and brainwashed. And then there's the Vision......

All in all, I'd give it like a 9-9.5/10. It was a great film with tons of action and comedy, and all Marvel fans should definitely check out. And I can promise that this film does a fantastic job at setting the groundwork for the upcoming films for the MCU. For which ones? I'll let you guys go see and find out ;)

Avengers: Age of Ultron. It didn't fill me with fangirlish glee like the first Avengers movie did, but I liked it. It had some really funny moments and, of course, a lot of action. I also liked that it kind of focused on some of the more overlooked characters. In the end, it was an admirable sequel.
