Women in Video Games

    Ventus Kickass Keyblader!

I think she's called Jeniffer Mui, am I right?

  2. There is Uncharted Drakes Fortune. She walks round with a gun and even OPM said that they had broken the girls are useless in video games stereotype. And yes Heavenly Sword. That game ruled. Indeed i have seen a letter written by a girl gamer and she said all she had to say was that (and im quoting so please excuse this) 'Aside from most female heroines having unfeasably large breasts i don't believe they are doing anything wrong anymore in the gaming industry.'

On a side note i think this should go in the debate forums. Maybe not if everyone agrees but just a suggestion.

This may sound weird, but I love using women in video games.

On typical MMORPGs I usually make female characters. For one they seem more flexible to use. And the other part is that they're fun to name.

To me, women seem more inept at times, but that's what gives them their spark. Take Rose for example, the protagonist of Silent Hill the movie. She may seem a little clumsy, yet she has a huge amount of courage resting on her shoulders.

I think it's very cliche to see men as always the heroes. Even though I adore Sora. Women add more of a sense of drama and emotion to a story.

And this is coming from a guy who is sexist. Hah. Oh well.

(And don't take the sexist thing wrong, I mean to offend nobody.)

Just as a side notes, I think the 'unfeasably large breasts' both, in video games and in other media, are more a stereotype against men.

I don't think it's so much that 'we expect girls to have them' or 'if a girl doesn't have them, she's not a real woman' or 'they're all women are good for.' It's more what they think men want to see.

In games - We always, always make the characters the ideal. For men, they're always big and muscular...for women, they're busty. I've yet to see a serious game with a fat protagonist...I have actually seen some with a petite girl though.

I did a report on this way back in like grade 10 in career studies. I chose "Game Designer" at the time (hahaha, that's classic) as my career to research. I did have a pretty awesome project though, I got over 100% on it. As a sideproject, I had to do a little bit of marketing...and my question was, ironically, would you rather play a game where the girls were busty, or petite?

Guys, almost unanimously, prefered busty. Now get this:
    Girls, almost unanimously, prefered busty.

I don't think I should go into my whole explanation for why I feel this happened, unless asked about it.

I am asking for you to tell me, in a declarative sentence. Lol. :]

Haha. Well, you sure showed me!

Well...I dunno, it just seemed to me that the ones who were so strongly opposed were either uncomfortable with their bodies, or acting on behalf of those who were.

Many people who voted that they'd rather have busty females, were actually rather petite...and some who voted for petite heroines, were actually quite busty. I think it pretty much came down to popularity (and of course, feminism). I think each girl who voted for petite heroines was labelled unpopular, ugly, and/or 'trashy' (even though I didn't necessarily think it was true)...with the exception of course, of the feminists...who generally didn't seem like the most intelligent people in this sample (the 'airheaded' type). I'm pretty sure this sample does not represent the population adequately.

I realize this is ghastly statistical measure, and I can't make a single inference or 'scientific' conclusion from it (It was long before I learned the means of statistical inference and the scientific method)...but sometimes the qualitative observances hold just the same.

i'll tell you why. because they are racist assholes. but really, who cares? i don't care. as long as the game's good, i dont have a damn problem.

I find that sovieto's post a bit sexist but he has a point.
Not many people really care about whether the game has females or males as long as the game is good.
The question is:should we really care whether it's got male or females characters in the game?Does it matter if I play as Kairi or Sora as long as I'm playing should I care?
